  1. The American Fencers Supply is very stout diamond blade. Most of mine have lasted over 14 years with some very serious abuse to them.
  2. The del Tin Brothers do make some of the best blades. But it also one of the oldest forges and armories in the world. For a blade that will take years of punishment get a schlager from American Fencers Supply. But don't discount Angel Swords who make some of the best blades in the world (and they are priced that way as well) plus Chris Poor - Arms and Armour. Chris made all of Museum Replicas pieces until Atlanta Cutlery got involved and started going over seas to India to produce the crap they have now.
  3. I'm just starting to learn. I have a hard time with most knot books as the illustrations are usually crude and the shading in the graphics are off at times. I'm looking for one that has photographs as well as illustrations. Think it would help. But I'm gettting there. There is an international knot tiers guild I understand.
  4. Very nice. I've been designing, building and doing effects for "For Profit" haunted houses for 23 years and can say ya done a fine job there mate. Ifin ya got time and a compressor. Run an air hose to your compressor and then to a length of 1/2 pvc pipe that's capped on both ends. In one cap put a quick release connector. Drill small holes down the length of the pipe. When the air from the compressor is released through a cheap ball valve into the pipe. It make a horrindous noise. I can tell you how to set it on fire ifin ya want.
  5. Great, just sent you mail. Oh, see if he remembers this.
  6. Hey Rue. Here's an Idea for your cannons. I build air cannons for my different DJ shows. Launching confetti etc. There are several versions that can be done. One is a PVC tube stepped down and connected by a hose to a coke Co2 cannister. Another is a five galon air tank with a solinoid used as a release valve. And last you can make a "swivel gun" using a simple ball valve. Now hooked up to Co2 or compressed air. They make a hell of a racket. Also someone posted up about fire extenguishers. Great idea for the shooting effect you'l get.
  7. We would love to have you. I'll post up the invite here next party.
  8. I know Spyder who plays Black Ceaser at the PIP Fest. Does anyone have any contact info for him? I really need to get hold of hiim.
  9. That would be greatly appreciated lass. My Res.
  10. Alright. That was so bad you are hereby demoted from Captain to Deck Hand. And it's your week in the barrel.
  11. That's the inacurracy. It's a "Because it's in the script" moment. Not that it doesn't work.
  12. Aye, check your local laws. I know the last show we did in New Orleans I had me mate that actually only has one hand and we have a real hook for 'em. The swords were fine but we had to "Cork" the end of his 'ook cause it was considered a weapon. You can see him at Beach Bash
  13. We be starting one in The Houston area also. The Texican Privateers. Many of us have done other forms of reenacting along the way. As once more sage advice be given by the Royaliste. Be as public as possible. Take over a room at local eateries. Head to local water related events and set up a booth. Raft runs, river runs etc. Have questions please drop me a line or post up here. Maybe we can hook the two groups up at somepoint for tankards and yards. I wish you luck matey.
  14. Also they didn't brand the P on their arm. It was on their Forehead. Now we never did see him without his doo-rag.
  15. I went out to nitpix and came accross this one I thought this deserved a little disscussion on this thread.
  16. Oh, just ask that one now. Yesterday I could have told you. One of those I could tell you if you wouldn't have asked me moments. (lol)
  17. Here is the direct link to the sword. That was one of the only problems I had with POTC. There wasn't one belled cutlass. They were all more sabre styled or as Dorian pointed out, Mortuary. Not neccessarily a bad thing but Pirates would have carried what ever would have been plundered or bought with prize taken. I loved the use of Hammer and axe which was accurate. But with Disney you have to always give in to "It was in the script".
  18. Let's see: I actually have a small coffin I use as a Pirate box: 3 shirts 2 6 button pants 1 13 button drop fronts 1 breaches 2 pair boots 2 scarfs 1 hat 2 pair of tights 2 .53 flint lock pistols 1 .45 cap lock derringer 1 cutlass 3 daggers 2 utility knives 2 rapiers 1 signal cannon 10 ft flag pole with "Texican Privateers" Jolly Roger and many other asundrious items
  19. I spent a couple of Summers in Alaska working a Salmon boat owned by my cousin. When you have 25ft swells and a 33 1/2ft boat. you spend allot of time in the hold on the keel. (lol) Alaska
  20. Check out Carie's Biker Bodices You fine none better fit. This is my ex and she redesigned them so the fit properly and won't break your ribs when you move the wrong way. Just pick a fabric that is not a two way stretch. Give her a shout and she'll be happy to help you. Just say Lloyd sent you.
  21. I can't wait te see the little tike all pyrated up. sniff Brings a tear to me eye... cough, hack... yeah the little bugger better appriciate.. ugh... ah, Damn.
  22. I've been swingin' steel for 23 years. I was taught by fight masters. Not fencing masters. Fencing can give you a good basic knowledge but Saber (read also as cutlass) & Rapier are completely different styles. Fencing is point/stick and works off of a point system in your matches. Where as saber is hack/slash/stick. Also fencing is different than fighting. I once spared with a guy who was considered the 4th best in the world in a German technique of Rapier fighting. He won the spare match because of the point system. He lost the fight. If it had been Real points and edges (which was how I was taught) I would have been cut, but not killed. He on the other hand would have died over and over as it were as it was best of seven. If you have never fought before the fencing would be a good place to start. But move to the Historical as soon as you can. Just because this guy doesn't want to put on piratical attire and play doesn't mean he isn't any good. You can still learn from him.
  23. Well... I guess I'll hoist a tankard to the son of a sea cow. Happy Hatching Day.
