  1. I picked it up & read it. It was cute. But... kinda... cheesy. Many funny parts to it. Which saved it. But ... I am looking forward to the next one. Well.. I look forward to some PotC swag in the fall.
  2. Hmm... can't say much of favorites.. since I haven't see a lot of them. I JUST saw "Long John Silver" the other day on a local TV station... been wanting to see that for many years! I agree with Hawkyns.. the Charlton Heston "Treasure Island" is the best on thus far! LOVE it! Heston made a FANTASTIC Silver. Disney's "Treasure Island" I still love as well. Robert Newton was so great. I would like to see "Blackbeard the Pirate" sometime. ::knocks on the wood of the Black Pearl::: LOVE "The Goonies"!! Just great! "Pirates".. I saw it once, kinda remember it, not much though. But I liked it. "Muppet Treasure Island"... Yeah I watched it the other night as well, Christine. I just laughed at a few spots including when Silver was singing in the galley when we first meet him... ahhhh, brought back memories when at the Chicago get together. I've seen "The Buccaneer"... Yul Bryner & Charlton Heston - again more Heston involved in pyratical fun - got to love those 2. Still pirate movie deprived. So.. need to find them & watch them. But... my favs... be "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" & "the Goonies".
  3. JACK! Yer gonna put me into Political mode here. Not a pretty sight! Just goes to show how much our Forefather's are doing a 100+ mph rottisserie in their graves.
  4. Hmm.. Jas. Townsend for patterns, sewing materials.. & other items from the pewter ware to a tent! But... other items.... I've not come to buy online.. other than my sword I got from Online Swords (don't think they are around any more). Otherwise... I be buying my swag from various places around like Wal Mart, Claries... or even Avon. I'm fickle & picky about the lovely shine that I wish to create my treasure from. & Thus far... with the jewelry I have ... it's rather fancy enough to make King's & Queen's whimper iwth envy! Though.... I was looking at some swag on Ferncanyonpress.. like the replica coins. Also looking at getting coinage from Jas Townsend. ::Evil grinz:: As well as their brass spyglass. Items.. well... where ever I can find it... especially from what others show me, via links to sites or what I hear about the camps. :: Evil grinz::
  5. I've spoken with ..::thinks:: can't remember their official titles... but they are with the Law Enforcement Angencies of the various states. Re-enactors are free to transport weapons, no need for a liscense unless you intend to fire the weapon with a projectile, ie bullet. & well.... for certain safety reasons... we know we won't fire a bullet. Or better not, lest some of the SoB will shoot ya in return. But.. certification, is not necessary. Though, inspection as mentioned depending upon who you are with, from units/regt to associations of certain period events. I know the BAR is rather strict on some rules. As long as someone is well aware of using a firing weapon & it's care... then most couldn't care if they are liscensed, certified, etc. I'm sure if you spent $800 on a musket, I'm sure you will be taking REAL good care of the weapon! But... Any ideas all? Besides talking with Track of the Wolf? Dixie Gunworks? Anyone else who would be inclined to make them?
  6. Appreciate the concern, Mr. Young. Aye... I'm aware of what firing is. I re-enact the Am Rev War, despite I am a rookie still.. being this my 3rd year, though won't be doing any events this year since I will be assisting my sis, having just found out she has cancer. I've seen what happens with pistols & muskets kinda neglected ... even over night at the camp sites. LOTS to go into the care of those weapons. Course, depends on their quality though, too. But.. aye... I want both a firing & non-firing one. I know others out there who be wanting a firing & non- firing replica of the pistol. I've checked with Track of the Wolf, Dixie Gunworks... Didn't have much luck there other than just telling me about their models. Just need to find someone willing to make the pistol.
  7. Must be a mighty fine pair o' stockings there, Redd! The frock be one item, but t' have stockings! Oooooh, ye be a mighty one indeed! :) Do they have a fancy design upon the side of 'em? Hmm? A good selection there, too, Mr. Young. :) I love adornments as well. Jewelry, beads, fancy trim.... anyone wear such finery that only Kings & Queens wear? Hmm? Something fancy you may have stolen from a ship or bought with plunder?
  8. AHOY there, shipmates! Anyone have any ideas or places to suggest of who be willing to make firing & non-firing replicas of Barbossa's pistol?
  9. :::looks at current frock coat:: Well, mine be black... black as the darkest night without the silvery moon. :: evil grinz:: Though... it be trimmed with silver/gold/blue lacing & antiqued fancy metal buttons. I do plan to make m'self another frock coat, a bit fancier than m' black coat. It'll be scarlet or crimson red. ::evil grinz:: If any other coats or waistcoats... depends upon which material capture my eyes... & there be a few out there now that are rather nice. :) Even some material at the local Hancock fabrics to make a rather lovely sack back gown.
  10. From what I read from No Quarter Given back in July, from what Lee Arenberg said... Rush & Verbinski thought of the idea. Kinda a reference to Snow White. Plus... Long John had apples with him in Treasure Island. I think apples have a certain pyratical symbolism there, as fruit was a luxury then. But what I have been told is the symbolism of the color of the apples. Green apples meaning "Redemption", red apples meaning "Sin". I even noticed when Elizabeth ate... she had meat, followed by bread & red wine... now... since it's just Easter, any of you who are familiar with religion... bread meaning the Body & red wine the Blood. Kinda like a communion to sanctify & cleans the sinner, or whatever to be received. She nearly fell for it all, but didn't have the apple. But... Jack ate the green apple. The blood.. well, a varity of ways again... but again, back to religious points here... remember, blood was spilled to the Aztec Gods... though they don't know the specific reason other than they know who was mostly sacrificed... captured warriors. Or, like Christ who shed his blood to wash away the sins... hence Will's blood, being innocent, besides having his father's blood as well. Another would be.. if Will died, would the God's allow the curse to be lifted? The being on the side of the chest was not an Aztec God, but Inca... being the Supreme Inca God... one of his ... things... was morals. blood must be spilt, yes.... but if Will was killed, would be murder... more than likely, Viracocha would not have agreed to the death of an innocent despite it was the blood of Bootstrap as well. Viracocha would not punish an innocent. Green apples are ok. A bit tart, sour. Red apples watery, depending on which ones you get. I enjoy the golden apples. Because they are not tart, not too sweet, soft & juicy... etc. Eve was the one wo originally sinned & took the forbidden fruit at the advice of the snake. I don't think Barbossa would be the Adam symbol, but more the snake... if you look at the heavy necklace around Barbossa's neck.. which looks like some poison holder or something... in a large snake ornament. The poisoned part could be in reference to the Snow White bit. But the apples could be a variety of others like Treasure Island. But the symbolism of the green apples means "Redemption". Hence, that is what Barbossa was after.. to be redeemed from the curse. Rock on about this subject. I enjoy it greatly. A lot that can still be played off of with the Aztec part of it. :: evil grinz:: Anastazia
  11. Desert Pyrate.... I've not heard of anyone from any of the Rev War or F & I regtments getting any attire from Jas. A couple people were pondering it, but decided to opt with the pattern. I've seen their stuff at Silver Lake, WI a couple times. Not too bad looking, but.. most people I know make their own by buying the patterns or have someone they know make it with the pattern. A couple people go through G. Gedney Godwin - granted they are MUCH more expensive. Ghost Forge is pretty good though. Though a few other sulters out east are decent enough & are found at re-enactments. Though.. in your location, not sure. I haven't attempted to allow them to make clothes... I just buy the pattern... better that way. But the rest of the items they have there.. I am more than pleased with. Including they tents... worth getting my friends! & yes.. I know what you mean about over spending with Townsend. Just SO much stuff that you just gotta have!
  12. Well... I was planning to go to GARF in May... but... a family emergency has cancelled my plans of going anywhere this year. So.. have extra fun in my stead. & don't forget to say hello to Jack... & of course Barbossa.. well .. both of them actually.
  13. A tad delayed... but wishing ya the best there, Redd! Happy Bday, mate! May there be much swag to add to your treasure! & barrels of rum for you!
  14. Aye! So I heard from the fantastic Captain. :) Still awaiting a good report from CostumeCon from him. As well as photos. Please... inform us more about what happened!
  15. I'm... just gonna sit here.. watch... be delighted but the imagine in my demented mind of all this madness. :::evil grinz::: Have at 'em, Bess.
  16. ROTFLMAO! :::In tears::::Ooooooh, my... hehehehe.. What a hoot & a riot. Careful with the mounting, as horrible as that sounds.. ::Winces:: So much for the movie casting calls. We've our own little casting call here & fun party. I'm with Black Hearted Pearl there.. but then again... I'd do one of 2 things... cringe & run... or gasp, pass out, wake up & give the gent a blue ribbon!
  17. Don't feel bad, Paisley... I doubt anyone can be as horrible as my Regt Commander (Rev War).. who is not able to show up to camp until somewhere between 1am - 3 pm in the morning! So... guess who is there first off! Let me tell ya... putting up a tent at 3 in the morning, & unloading TONS of gear & equipment in the dark is a most interesting experience! :)
  18. Wine? Lots of wine, says you? Awwww.... tis a pity that I couldn't have been there, says I. Glad t' know you all had a fantastic time!
  19. A good question there, m' friend. Not sure either where to get ahold of the material either. I've only seen one person able to find the material. & more than likely, it's not available any more in the vast majority of fabric stores which I have noticed to only carry a type of fabric for a spell then discontinue it. Silly & sad I know. Most fabric stores I have gone to were not that helpful either. ::le sigh:: goes to show how much fun it is to live in a poduck unintelligent city. Again.. I wish ya luck.
  20. Same thoughts here as well, Enigma! For something that may not be liscensed by Disney... it's pretty good. It's PotC swag.. so.. who's to argue? Now.. if it were Barbossa.. I'd be whimperin' & buying it in a heartbeat! :::innocent look:::
  21. Aye... insane to be exact. Now.. the issue is would they learn from the mistake as George Washington did? He was most likely not apt to make the same mistake again after learning from the first. Still.. there is a market... a great one .. for PotC Merchandise... if some were released today.. I guarantee, it would still sell! I'm not kidding. I know a few friends of my nephew would love to have some stuff.. be it action figures.. or the cursed coin.. maybe swords or pistols... costumes... people still begging for a novelization - other than the junior version - of the movie. More shirts.... replicas of the coins... props... Even I was drooling over the Barbossa ring that was sold in the fall... was rather bummed.. still am... rather expensive piece, considering it started off in the auction at $800 & ended in the auction at over $3,000! Ouch! Not even Tavington's uniform cost that much! & I know someone who bought the Tavington uniform for around $700! Insane that a good majority of the stuff was scrapped. Silly gooses! PotC swag.. scattered all about like the cursed Aztec gold... in private hands. ::le sigh:: I admit.. I still wish I was able to get that ring. Would be awesome to be at the Rev War re-enactments with the Barbossa ring, the sword & pistol... & the great thing is.. I can get away with using them! ::dances around:: ::evil grinz:: One can only hope that things will improve. Again... still a market out there for PotC stuff... I even heard it on the radio the other morning when they mentioned celebrity Bdays... it was Keira Knightley's Bday... turning 19th, Happy Bday to the young lady! ... that the 2 radio personalities here in CR just LOVE the movie! It's one of their favs! So.. yeah.. there is still a market!
  22. HUZZAH! to ya, Red Bess! Many more Birthdays for ya... much plunder in your treasure & ... whatever you want, may you get it. One way or another. :: evil grinz::
  23. Aye! Looks like tons o' fun, Paisley! Makes on wish t' be there. :)
  24. Alas... doubt I will be there Memorial Weekend. But I will be there the weekend of May 8th & 9th. Celebrate my birthday in style & lots of fun... & with Jack & Barbossa! As well as a few others on Jack's forum. Can't beat that! So... if anyone be going that weekend.. will see ya there. If fate loves me... who knows... may go Memorial weekend as well.. But.. doubt it... there is a re-enactment that weekend at Vincenes, IN too, so... may be at that... :::knocks on the wood of the Black Pearl::: Anastazia
