  1. Oops got me there..was confused.ment to say a ride at disneys. I've not seen it but is'nt it based on movies from the 40's an 50's like treasure island? Hey no purist, not sure if thats whats ment by historical nazi but some of the historical events are very interesting and were well recorded. I read that this movie is set in asia or did that change. point being its titled POC2*********** then it should be set in the caribbean..Never saw the patriot so ???...I'll see the next one,poc2, when it comes out on dvd..an give you my thumbs up or down ...lol...ok..depps fine for fantasy films..I'll give you that but he aught to tone down the frankenstien arm thing and shashaying...an get a little more serious an less inside joke...guess thats been my main gripe with poc..thanks for the conversation....
  2. well, Dont want to rain on your parades, If i was to make a movie about pirates they would be more dark and true to form. If its was titled caribbean pirates, it would be in the Caribbean..A wildly interesting place to be, canes not with standing....not nice guys prancing around looking glazed over.....should be based on history an not a video game. Can you imagine what a quality movie about Las Aves fleet would be like or Gramont, DeGraf, Jennings, Anne bonny etc..better than fiction.
  3. Man its hard to reason with....."Jacks, drool this an barbossa is sexy that.....I dont get that at all, ???....a course that monkey is looking better an better to me all the time .....natural, intelligent an debonair. Did he, the monkey, sign up for sequels too? pawprint in the ink so to speak. I hope he's not playing second bannana again... btw did he have a name???
  4. ya well..i guess i'm the lone wolf here....theres no convincing ya..lol....
  5. I thought this new movie was to be called POC ********...Pirates of the Caribbean..implys that it be in the caribbean..not singapore or asia..The problem most squels have is the script writters are rehashing the same character dynamics an interactions. Seems to me, there are many actors out there that could play pirate personas better than depp and maybe as well as rush...heres one..the guy that played in rob roy as a bad guy would be excellent as a pirate so would the guy that played rob roy. It, poc2, could turn in to Abbot an Costello meet the pirates if its not extremely well handled. See if it bombs out, then future pictures could be dropped... THe pirate lore has many many interesting slants to it..How about a film based on the golden age piracy, definately degraff was an interesting pirate bigger in life than any charater actor in any pirate movie.....heres my take on depps charater..its to much like when he played the stoner reporter in las vegas ....zanny with glassy eyes..yet basically a nice guy but you know ahead a time he 's going to out smart the bad authorities. Wheres the an--tis-a-pation(sp?) in that? I know most ladies like depp an rush an want to see them back but would'nt you like t o see something different? I mean varity is the spice a life? well thats it..
  6. Given the spotty history of sequel movies, purhaps the poc producers should revamp the script to have all new characters instead of the same old cast as before. Personally I'd find that more interesting, and it gives the writers the freedom to excape the constraints of the same type cast personas. If your doing a poc movie should'nt it be filmed in the caribbean? Being authentic to the local is, I would think, important to carry the atmosphere of the movie. I'm sure lots of money will be spent producing it but is it that wise to reprise esentially the same thing again? you know good pirate vs bad pirate.

    props?

this is a stupid question i'm sure, but what exactly do you do with movie props anyway? I've been looking at these type of items an they seem to be generally greatly overpriced and made of inferior materials. example would be the pirate coin from potc. Would'nt something orginial or a good copy of something be as good? example would'nt you rather have a real period sword over a rubber prop sword? or is a fake prop onion bottle more desirable over a true 18 century onion bottle? Something intangable about them? thanks in advance
  8. What exactly is it that makes modern pirate mentality? History tells us that these men/woman were that had no redeeming qualities other than banding together. They engaged illegal activites including extremes such as out and out torture and murder to acheive an end. Has the pirate persona been hyped/morphed to something it never was by the fanciful thinking? Seems to be Likable, hard drinking over dressed scallewags with romantic overtones. The same types i.e. Dillinger, baby face nelson, al Capon are thought of today as twisted pschopathics killers yet will they someday recieve the pirate mantel and a blind eye turned to what they really were?...I hope i said this right, not trying to start a fight just trying to understand what "pirate" means presently.
  9. I must be blind as all i saw was a smart, ruthless man vs deps character which was to sweet, stoned an over done. I'm amazed that all you discribed you ladies see....!
  10. sorry dont get it..whats the big thing about barbossa? Understanding that deps character was for laughs, is it because he acts mentally sharp and ruthless?
  11. now that you mention it christine, i'd venture he's making sure the deck was scrubbed clean.......
  12. actually heres a good pic i found browsing the web of the monkey, I got a kick outta him in the movie poc
  13. so theres a sequel to the original movie? whats the name of it? coming out as a rental? I hope they concentrate on whats known about piracy vs comical characters such as deps. there was a pirate that talked with depps character in the jail that seemed to fit the bill as its understood. Dont know if he had a name. For me thats a more interesting characterization and very well portrayed.
  14. just to inform you all about a short clip at the very end of the credits is a monkey swimming to the treasure chest. theres a corpse there flashing momentarily...who is it? anyone got a pic of him to id it? its it the capt'n? or one of the other dead? had to take the movie back to the rv rental so cant look at it again. thanks

    poc

I was never of a mind that this movie portrayed pirate activity in its true form or what is understood it to be, yet pirate capitians were thrown over for different leaders. even mutany is a form off voting someone out of his/her postion, just forcefully. there are exceptions to this though. Movies always carry the baggage of interptation. deps involvement was to entice the younger audience an i think he went over the edge and became a cartoon. while i think barbossa was estentially correct for atire and attitude. I spent many weeks when i was younger livng in a remote pirate hangout and talking at night around camp fires with natives that pass on tales of what the pirates were like an treasure tales. Seems the capts. were ruthlessly brutal yet fair to some with their crew. and garb could run the extreme. In a tropical saltwater environment your clothing tends to disintergrate and you get realy ragged around the edges..some a my clothes were nothing more than rags. i was accused of looking pirate like though a pirate i'm not. then jungle drove me out. being an old guy seems to have stuck with me, still a bit ragged an worn out. barbossa does seem to fit the pirate as it is presently understood. even with its flaws it was an interesting movie.
