  1. Aye. Hopefully they will make it down there as well. As to myself getting down there... I would like to, it's something that's on the mind, but no real plans yet. Again, depends on my re-enactment schedule & money. (ALWAYS the bloody money) Then again, if Barbossa makes it in to town.. he'd want to burn everything!! I'll keep it in mind for PiP. I do hope you are able to get to the next showings of PotCI. Wishin' ya all luck with that, mates. Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  2. Skibum.. do you sew? Or is someone going to sew for you? if you want to try cheap & quick - in a manner of speaking - then I believe that Buttericks has a pirate costume. Otherwise, Buttericks & Simplicity have colonial patterns (Simplicity not being all that impressive). You can then find any kind of material you want, depending on how much you want to spend. It's the hats, boots/shoes, belts, etc that is the hard part. For good patterns, plus hats Jas. Townsend & Sons is a good place to get patterns & hats from. Plus under the Plunder topic on the Pub, there are TONS of helpful hints & links to places to get a hold of some of the hard to find items. Kit bashing some items is ok, I did that with the waist belt of mine... took to identical belts, combined them. Made a belt with cheap belt polyester strap, a brass buckle from another kit-bashed belt, & a HUGE black velvetine & silver button. Fabric stores that have remenant material on sale, that's a good place to go for sashes, scarfs for the head, etc. As to boots... I bought cheap winter like boots. But if you want to go full force on boots, Caboot boots has a good variety. I'm sure there are other places out there as well. Caboot boots being on average $250 - $300+, but they have some awesome boots like Jack Sparrow & Barbossa boots. As into an era.... Mine is a silly knock off kinda like Barbossa's... a combination of eras like late 17th, early to mid 18th c. Though, not as scattered with various worldly influences. Are you looking for Spanish? English? French? Or 17th? 18th? The good portion of what appears to be pirate is 17th & 18th. example, Treasure Island is set around 1750's, this is round about the time of the Seven Years (French & Indian) War. PotC has a huge influence from too much of both 17th & 18th c to really pin point a specific decade or part in the century. Such as like the Commadore's uniform starts off as F & I for such but later on, gets closer to pre-Am Rev War. But Swann's outfit is mostly late 17th c, a tad early 18th. Elizabeth's attire is looking rather mid 18th. It's a tough thing to make a costume especially if you want a certain look. I wish ya luck. But, if you are creative enough, you can pretty much find anything anywhere to make your costume. Check out anything from Wal-Mart to re-enactment events in your area, cause guaranteed there will be a sutler or 2. Weapons.. Oooo... another touchy area. I wish ya luck there. I think a few peeps have helped ya there. But the non-firing pistols would make for GREAT adornments to your pirate costume if you don't want to spend a HUGE amount on a firing/working pistol. 3. Indeed! A week long Bday party.... coinsides with Mardi Gras! Can't beat that, Maggie! Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  4. NOW ya gents understand the little dilemma of how in the bloody hell to get this pistol replicated. It does kinda look like heavy Dragoon pistol. Somewhat. Rather long for a Dragoon pistol. About the same size, be a bit long. Kinda looks Queen Anne to me, albeit still Dragoon/cavalry (obviously into the Rev War cavarly)... with a Virginia type hammer & such. But.. this is what I have seen those far. I could talk to the saftey Officer of the NWTA & see what he says. He works for the Museums in Chicago with firearms. I have not known the man to never be able to identify a weapon yet. Let alone disarm ANY weapon out there. He's that good. Scarey. But I also agree with ya... if you look at Sparrow's pistol being a real pistol... Barbossa's looks a tad... fragile. It amazes me how it can work when it looks a tad out of proportion. But.. it's a fine looking pistol. I'm sure it was heavy as hell. But.. now that you gents know what it looks like - thank you SO VERY much, Hawkyns. Treasure to ya, kind sir. I have the same pic, just no way to post it).. maybe someone can make this pistol. Again, I'm not the only one who would LOVE to have this pistol. Huzzah! Forever Barbossa's, Anastazia
  5. Basically follow with what Black Deacon stated. It's the distressing look of the attire that will be fun, mate. If you want to go cheap, I did. My whole of the outfit I did myself... sewed it & all. Spend 'round $200 - $250 on it. Material, boots, hat, feathers, mad ethe belt myself, etc... everything. Had the sword already. & the pistol (but looking for a better pistol in which you can use a really cheap wall replica (non-firing) type if you don't want to spend a ton on working replicas. ) I'm sure by tomorrow morning (knocks on wood), if you click on my "name", will take you to my profile/stats.. there will be a pic of myself in my pirate captain costume. ('cause of it, my friend calls me Barbossette. ) Otherwise, scower the 2nd hand shops, eBay, etc... or maybe someone here on the board could make ya a costume. I wish ya luck on your costume. Huzzah! 6. Not to worry, Elaina. I've been speaking with one of the founders & was inform that despite it wasn't a huge turn out, it was still a success despite the mishap to it... that there are 3 more PotC Interactives planned for the year at the same theater. May want to check on the forum on the PotCI site on who to talk to. BTW... my sympathies, m'dear. Hope you are feeling much better. Truly a terrible time to have fallen ill. But, I do hope you will be able to make one or all 3 of them in the future? Maggie! Chica! There is one in the works for the Chicago area as well. By what I am gathering, from the founder, the major cities are getting some PotCI's in the works. :: crosses fingers & swords:: I can actually see this happening. I'm even checking in to see if a PotCI can happen here in lil' ol' Iowa! I've actually had a few people want PotC on the IMAX. But, until Disney or Buena Vista or whoever puts it on Large Format, we won't be able to show it. I've had more people demand it than the Matrix Reloaded. At least that already had it on Large Format. I wish I could go to the one in Atlanta - when ever that one comes around. Why? JACK & BARBOSSA! Aye! The 2 wonderful gents down in Georgia whom a few of us know simply as Jack & Barbossa ... I'm sure would grace whatever theater the PotCI would be held at. I've already informed (sort of) Jack about this. Hopefully he will get involved (If you are reading this, Jack, you can strangle me when I get down there for GARF in May. ) So.... check in on the site... get involved! Huzzah! Forever Barbossa's, Anastazia
  7. Hmm.. very interesting. Sounds like a lot o' fun. Did my eyes trick me there..... was the Windy & the Windy II to be there? Or was that just wishful hoping? Prelude for the 2005 Tall Ships fest... which I am quite eager for... can't believe I missed out on the 2003.. I was there that weekend too! But never got down to the Pier. Oh, well... can't plunder them all. Huzzah! Forever Barbossa's, Anastazia
  8. Y'all are makin' me wish I were up there in Chicago! But... I hope to make it to the area every so often for re-enactments. Maybe do something serious for the Tall Ships Fest in 2005. Or other events. Sounds like a good portion of us are showin' up 'round the midwest now. Huzzah! Forever Barbossa's, Anastazia
  9. Yup... Saw that in the newspaper today,... a friend & I. Thus far, I have heard a couple growls from people ready to strangle Eisner for that. Oh, well..... I just keep m'mouth shut & pray that a mutiny magically happens. Hey.. it could happen... it is the beginnings & all to the Magic Kingdom. Huzzah! Forever Barbossa's, Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  10. :) I'm with Bess there. We'll just celebrate this like Mardi Gras! party a little more each day until the BIG day! A Happy B-day early... granted another from me on yer b-day. :) Huzzah! Forever Barbossa's, Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  11. Quite true, Wenchy. Just this past week I saw they got a shirts for PotC in... albeit all they had was 1 Sparrow shirt & 4 Turner shirts. I don't think there are there. Plus, just LOVE the pirate stuff there. I just never noticed the majority of the pirate swag before. They usually had retro stuff before Pirates came into play. Now, they have a vast variety of pirate stuff anything from the attire to throws .. even pens which I just picked up & love using it. Looks so wicked. I'm enjoying the stuff they- OMFG!!!! I just heard the bloodiest, funniest commercial on the radio for Buffalo Wings that have new Captn Morgan wings & these people were talkin' like pirates! I just cracked! Tis fantastic! If this be a fad.. Hell! LET IT LAST!!!! Huzzah! Forever Barbossa's, Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  12. Aye, tis a beautiful ship. Red & Black be perfect colors for a pirate ship. Dreamed that if I truly had a ship, it would be black & red. Though... don't think it would be a schooner. Nay... I'd love to own myself a frigate or the sort. But.. they be dreams... for the time being. But.. they are indeed lovely ships. They call to ya. Call ya to the sea. Pullin' at our pirate hearts. Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  13. Aye! Very true! They be some fine ships. Now.. the issue bein' as to acquirin' or commandeering the ships. Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  14. I wish ya luck, Tori. Yes, the plastic don't hold up too well. Metal stays are usually best next to the whale bone (As I have been told, but they can & usually do absorb heat). Eager to see the pictures. Again, good luck to ya. Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  15. Elaina, you are one brave girl! I kinda decided to cheat on making my outfits. I made a couple by hand... even a flag for the 35th Regt of Foot in NJ by hand... I'll be using a sewing machine for quick jobs. Anyway... I've rather amused with the answers here on this question. Tori, now... first off.. I must ask.. do you have a boned bodice? Stays with the shoulder strap or without? Are they fully boned or partial? The reason why I ask, is cause there were a couple varieties back then. The kind I made, partially by hand & partially with a sewing machine, are fully boned. I used reeding since it's cooler during the summer & allows you to breathe. Literially. Not just your skin, but allows you to partially move. Stays are to help with posture, not restrict your breathing to the point you pass out. The reeding I use, appears thin ... ::Runs to grab the reeds::: ok... here we go.. I used Elephant reeds & marsh reeds which can be found at craft &/or fabric stores, such as here - in Iowa - I found them in Hancock Fabrics. I intermix the reeds such at the Elephant reeds to go along the seam of the stays, while I use the marsh reed inbetween the seams, using anywheres from 1 to 5 reeds in each slot. Again, the reeding helps to form that shape that is desired but allows you to breathe & move, but is still restricting in the sense it's supposed to be & not overly restricting. The reeds help the stays to conform to you, & you conform to the stays. I have a couple books that help me out on the ideal & appearance of stays. The best one I like thus far is "Tidings of the 18th Century" by Beth Gilgun. Or a fine example of a functional still n fantastic shape stays, check out "Costume Close-up: clothing construction & pattern 1750 - 1790" by Linda Baumgarten & John Watson with Florine Carr. I bought my stays pattern through Jas. Townsend & Sons. Which they have them in a variety of sizes to fit you. I'm rather pleased with the pattern in which does fit me well. You can make shoulder straps if you like. The lacing up the back... Ummm, I would suggest that you use leather for the lacing holes, but not leather for the lacing itself. Best to use a cord or a tight weaved likeness. I have a wide cotton 'cord' that I usually use for my petticoats. This works fantastic. You will need to make sure that around the lacing holes that the reeding is the elephant or a thick, strong reeding. When lacing up, most are in the back. Pretty much requires the assistance of another person. I've tried it by myself, doesn't work. If you are lucky enough to have stays that lacing in the front.. bravo, but I would think you may need help yet, cause they are both a pain yet fun to lace up. When lacing, as was mentioned by others, you should still breathe... in some fashion or another. One must learn how to breathe, unfortunately, raising the shoulders, instead of expanding the chest & abdomen. I am not a skinny minnie by any means, ladies & gents, if you look at my profile pic, no my avatar.... You can see how the stays can 'boost' the chest, whether you are big chested or flat chested. If not really much there to work with, in another book they did once use aides such as "false bossoms". That info was in the "Distaff Sketchbook" by Robert L. Klinger. But, most causes, I doubt you will need to use the false bossoms. I don't think I could ever finish this post... but to add, that with the stays... use leather for the trimming around the edges. Why? To keep the boning in the slots. There should be an allowance to the boning & slots. Such as example, the slots are 12" long vertical, the boning should be around 11 1/2 ". Again, the leather trimming helps to make sure the boning stays in the slots. Other materials allows the boning to .. slip out & poke. Believe me, that hurts! The reeding can & will break, but compared to using metal boning which is not as comforable, let alone is HOT during the summer months... I'll take my chances replacing the reed boning often. ::ponders::: I feel like I am leaving something out here. Oh, well. If I think of it, I shall inform you immediately! Promise. But, wearing the stays can be fun in a way. Not only the look from the gents, but the way they help you carry yourself. I've had my friend - who has taken pictures of me in costume & been so very patient in lacing me up - is rather impressed with them, even to the point she tried the stays on finding that they were not as bad as what they were cracked up to be. I wish ya luck, Tori. Again, any more questions... Fire away! I'll try to answer as soon as I can. Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  16. LOL.. cute, very cute, El Pirata. Hmmm... rumors are still flying? Haven't heard any ssince December. Interesting. A little chatter here & there about "can't wait for the 2nd movie" ... but that is it. Trust you there, Bess. I wouldn't trust anything else floatin' about unless it came from you. :) Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  17. Some had posted this in the PotC chat list on Yahoogroups. Not sure if this is true, but here is the info they had mentioned: After much negotiations between Disney and Regal Cinemas, the POTC Interactive in Tampa, Florida is ON! The event will be held Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 14th and 15th at the Regal Theater Stadium at Citrus Park Mall at 1:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. both days. Call the theater at (813) 920-9471 for more information. We need as many people to come as possible because Disney will be watching to see how many show up. Let's fill the theaters! > Explain a little more about the PotC Interactive. > > > Forever Barbossa's, > Anastazia The POTC Interactive is just that. It's a viewing of the film at a theater and the audience interacts with the movie. (Think of the midnight showing of Rocky Horror Picture Show.) The audience will come in costume (pirates or poppets) and you can bring your script (download from www.POTCInteractive.com) and an apple. The theater will provide pirates kits but that may consist of coupons for candy or drinks - who knows?) I'm bringing my own pirate props. It's just a chance for Johnny fans and POTC fans to get together and meet, celebrate the film (and Johnny's nomination!) and have some fun. More information is available on the website mentioned. Kyrila For some of you down that direction, I figured that you may enjoy something like this. Who knows, if this is a hit, they will do this at other theaters across the country! Make this a huge cult pop phenomen as RHPS! HUZZAH! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  18. Congrats, Akasha. Much luck in skewering your victums. :: evil grinz:: Hawkyns... wonderful idea! I've never thought of that. I should start doing that then. I have a Civil War heavy dragoon saber... three banded brass & black leather hilt...the one on the skull PotC logo... LOL, tarnish & all which just makes people jealous... but, yeah.. that sucker is heavy! Great if you are on horseback in a charge, but on foot... it's rather heavy. So, the tossing around dumbells I'm sure will work. :) Thanks, mate! :: tosses ya a couple rum bottles & gold pieces:: Minrat.. very cool! I've done some Arnis in the past. My unit commander of Lee's Legion (Rev War) will be teaching me some fencing. Can't wait. I have a very old fencing foil in which he's going to fix up for me & train me. I'm so excited. BTW.. I wish ya luck, shipmate! Skewer yer opponent! Lady Elaina... tough decision, isn't it? Have any that catch your eyes?
  19. Aye! I'm with ya there, Kate! Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  20. ::ponders:: Well.. besides what you had listed like Townsend, Smoke & Fire & Fox... G. Gedney Godwin is one, albeit a bit pricy. I'm not sure who else has replica equipment. But revwar.comhas a list of sutlers or should at least. I can't say much about the seafaring equipment of Townsend as I haven't really seen it. I've seen a lot of their stuff at re-enactments, but nothing nautical related. But.. they don't take quality lightly. I would imagine their equipment is really good. A lot of re-enactors I know swear by Smoke & Fire. Though it's been a while since I have been to that site. Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  21. Townsend has some good hats. They come often to several NWTA re-enactments. I'm rather impressed with a lot of their items. If you have no ideas of making your own trimming, decorating of your cocked hat, then get the trimmed ones. The hand finished one that is $35 is best. The $15 ones are good but not fantastic. Otherwise... go for the untrimmed blank wool felt. Then you can do whatever you want with it. They are rather good quality. I have one & love it! But beware.. they are hot... so, you best wear a kerchief atop yer head lest you be sweating like a horse. :) But.. I was able to decorate mine with some green satin ribbon & black fuzzy feathers, make it look a little foppish... looks rather cool. I already had a green satin cockade I bought a couple years back when I was in Colonial Williamsburg. But these hats are fantastic to work with, as long as you are willing to be creative & do a little work. Requires a lot of hand sewing, WON'T be easy. I used the upholstry needles to sew the stuff on. Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  22. Best I have is a small silvery replica of a Doubloon. Found it at Old Threshers in Mt. Pleasant IA this past year. Only one there. Only $1. So... bought it. I wear it nearly every day. Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  23. El pirata looks like he gave a rather good offer. I can also make ya one & ship it to ya. No charge really... I have a butt load of material here & need to use it up. I'm desperate to get rid of some of this material, making it into some costumes. Let me know... I don't use a pattern, just give me your measurements... I do it by memory now in the 18th c style. Having made a couple already. Easy as hell to make them. Just tell me if you want ruffles or not. Such as ruffles on the sleeves & front .. or just the sleeves or no ruffles as all. Small collar, big collar... big poofy sleeves or narrow sleeves, hip length or longer... etc.
  24. May be "pirate to the gills!"? Except I think that be far more of a ration than a gill o' rum! hehehehe... well... best I have that is PotC related... is my major prize possesion... a 4 foot stand up of Barbossa when they were having the DVD release. I was lucky enough to get my hands upon him. Didn't really care much about Jack & Will... besides, they were already taken. Talk about a treasure! Bloody hell!, are they ever difficult to get a hold of! & that was just as the DVD came out I got my hands upon him. Then there is the prop coin (if it really is) that I got with the DVD I bought from Wal-Mart.... A 7-weeks rental card I got from Blockbuster for pre-ordering (Yes, I have 2 DVDs)... An el cheapo plastic likeness of the Aztec gold... though I would LOVE to get a metal one with the 2 different sides. As well as a different medallion that I have been trying to get made for years now. Alas, no one taking on the challenge. Not much else I would want that is currently out there. What I would LOVE to see is some actual PotC stuff! example... like what was done with "Sleepy Hollow" by Tim Burton... the likenesses of Depp as Ichabod & the horseman... those are WAY too cool. I have them, btw. & to have PotC characters done my Mcfarlane... would be WAY TOO COOL! Barbossa, Pintel, Ragetti, Jack... etc... way, way too cool! As to window decals.... I've started working on my own to put on my own vehicle... just need to get them to a proper printer sometime to finish them up. Since I have the stuff to make them. :) I have one that shows the Black Pearl in the fog & says "My other mode of transportation is the Black Pearl!" Oooh.. I heard there is PotC shirt out there of half Jack, half Barbossa that has something along the lines of the caribbean being a paradise for some, for others its a curse... would LOVE to get a hold of that one. Anything Barbossa I would LOVE to get my hands upon. Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
  25. Wish I could see them. Oh, well. Only one I am aware of is one of soe PotC footage with the old late 80's song "Im too sexy.." I swear that is the best one I have ever seen! It's too damn funny & fantastic. Huzzah! Anastazia ~Master & Commander of the Resurrection
