  1. The appeal to us Ladies is different than men.. in more than one way. Barbossa is the essense of a pirate captain. His physical appeal is just amazing with the mix of his whole appeal. LOL, aye, Zorg. There be hope for you yet! :) It's all the look as well as the personality. The whole treasure...or bottle o' rum! So, yes... ::le sigh; swoon:: I look forward to if & when Barbossa returns to PotC. It just breaks my heart to see him shot by Jack, die... then laying there motionless upon the mound of gold. Dear God those eyes.... so sad.
  2. I agree with ya, Zorg. I've seen some authentic pistols on display that were excavated from Camden & Cowpens as well as Guilford Courthouse & Yorktown. Some are that size. Another part that leads me to believe Barbossa was familiar with cavalry life. The pistol is rather unique, for sure.
  3. :indicates to Christine's reply::: aye, what she said. It's actually a right good name. Finding the meaning of it.... Hector is Greek meaning "Holding Fast". Kinda interesting they chose that name. There is always an excuse to see PotC! :) Shoot, you can have your own little PotC Interactive party if ya like with a few friends or pirates. PotC Interactive The commentaries are rather good. Some interesting stories & info. Not much in the extras of Rush as Barbossa. ::le sigh:: Oh, well. My friend still hopes they will put out a super collector's edition with more of the deleted scenes & other stuff. She believes it to be about 4 DVDs worth of stuff. I say BRING IT ON! But.. more Barbossa would be great. :) Eager for what they will put out with the toys. I know I will DEFINITELY buy the little Barbossa action figure! :) :::HUGE grin:::
  4. No comment there, mate! But the pistol is right nice. :) As to the lock... ::: shakes head:: nope. The one the Track of the Wolf, inc looked different. I could be mistaken about the name. ::le sigh:: just eager to get this pistol. Propmaster of PotC I believe was "Chuck" Stewart. As to who made the pistol originally... : Shrugs:: But, it's not the first time this pistol has been used. It was used in "Cutthroat Island" by Dawg Brown.
  5. Robert! For that, mate.. I'll buy ya a WHOLE barrel o' rum! Mind you, we sneak it from Barbossa's private stock, he'd be a bit upset. We've already had to replenish his stock 5 times. ::Evil grinz:: Ahhhh...Yes... Barbossa & Sparrow. Well.. first off, Barbossa was portrayed by the very talented & intreging Actor Geoffrey Rush. Amazing gent. Would LOVE to hear more of the history he created for Hector Barbossa. Another is... though, Barbossa may have started it when he mutinied against Jack. Marooned him... twice... & worse thing to EVER do to Jack is to take his ship. Though a few of us lasses think the Black Pearl should stay with Barbossa. :) So, Jack perhaps thought it right & fair that he could backstab Barbossa like this. Eye for an eye type of situation. But... again, as I said, I'm sure there are several out there who agree with myself.. I know Lady Christine does :::waves to her:: .... when we say Barbossa makes a far better pirate than Jack. Barbossa seems to be a combination of Teach, Kidd, Morgan, Roberts, Tew, etc. Even the Barbarossa brothers! I'd sail with Barbossa anyday over Sparrow! ::toasts with wine::: ::Looks at Capt'n Jack Sparrow(he knows who he is):: No offence mate. We still love ya. But we adore Barbossa.
  6. :) Very true. I think from what I have seen with many men re-enacting the colonial era, depends upon the need of seat space. DAMN! No wonder Banastre Tarleton's portrait painting by Reynolds looks like his breeches are SO tight that they were spray painted on his legs! Made him look damn sexy that way! :) But.. aye... I've noticed & read in some books about clothing of the era that riding breeches had more extra room in the seat than normal breeches. :) Again, Hawkyns is spot on there. Bravo, mate! Though not really familiar with early 18th c or 17th yet, since mostly still researching the Rev War era... denim blue jeans tight or whatever... hehehe, NOT GOOD! Don't worry m'boy-o if they look odd compared to this day & age. Plus... Sketchbook '76... it's ok, but I won't exactly go by it. It kinda gives you an idea what they look like. I used a Ladies version of that, the Distaff Sketchbook... again, gives you an idea... but is not exact. Hence why I will buy a pattern, be it from Townsend or just at the local fabric store. If I get one of these modern patterns, one who can sew can easily alter it with the help of the Sketchbook. "Costume Close-up..." by LindaBaumgarten, John Watson & Florine Carr... has some fantastic details on costume of the 18th c from 1750 - 1790. Gives you an idea of the breeches, since it shows a couple actual pair from the era. Keep researching, Mate... keeps you in touch & giving you ideas. There are the fly drops & the button fronts. But not sure how far back they go. I don't think earlier than the F & I/7 years war.
  7. Glad to know all had fun. I did keep ya all in mind all that evening, despite working at the IMAX & watching the Rolling Stones! (ROCK ON!).... Hope you enjoy the Colours, Morgan! HUZZAH! Mate! Again... just means that well will be havin' one hell of a celebration when Morgan returns! Guaranteed I plan to be there for that one! Thank ye kindly for the pictures, Jewels! Right wonderful they are. :) Here's to you, Morgan! 3 cheers for Morgan all! & that he returns to us home safely! HUZZAH! HUZZAH! HUZZAH!
  8. ::le sigh; waves:: Wishin' I would be there, mates. But... alas.... not possible. Ya best return to us, Morgan! So we can have that spectacular welcome home party for ya along with the 2005 Tall Ships Fest. & sounds rather fantastic to celebrate with Jewels! Happy Birthday, shipmate! Wish I were there t' celebrate with ya as well. Hehehe.... would be 2 Bdays & a going away party... Have fun, all! Plenty of pix & pirate fun! Drink up, me hearties! YO HO! Huzzah! for Morgan! Hold Fast, mate!
  9. Thank ye kindly, Kat. I'm still rather hopeful about finding someone willing to make them. Again, I think it wise to make both the non-firing replicas & working/firing replicas. I know a few people who I'm sure would be rather interested in buying one if they were available. Since there are a couple gents out there as well who go to ren faires dressed as Barbossa. Plus, Barbossa followers (like myself) who want that pistol. Again, thank ye kindly. I may have posted these previously... but I'll do it again... these are some pix I have found that are the clearest shots of the pistol itself.... & another.... I was able to find a similiar type kit via Track of the Wolf, inc... including the cock/ hammer... which they label it as "Virginia". It's tilting the flint down just enough to assure a spark to the pan to fire pretty much the majority of the time. Which, who ever built the Barbossa pistol, did one hell of a job! In my opinion. Now... if I can have that kind of pistol at the re-enactments... I wouldn't have to bloody die all the time! So... if ANYONE out there knows of gunsmiths willing to take up this challenge... present the idea. :)
  10. I'd buy a kit, then put it together & put the decor on it... IF I could do something like that. I'm not even close to a gunsmith, & I wouldn't dare try it myself in fear it would back fire in my face. Unfortunately, no gun shows since Feburary around here.. So.... I haven't asked anyone. ::le sigh:: Who would have thought, trying to have Barbossa's pistol replicated would be SOOOO difficult?
  11. Aye. I noticed the poor man there... round about the 3rd time I watched the DVD. Poor thing... literially freezing his arse off!
  12. I bought the DVD on Wed. I never got that chance to see it on the big screen. I greatly enjoyed the film! Fabulous! Well worth the Oscar nominations! & well worth seeing over & over again... which I have done. Watched it 4 times since I bought it.
  13. Hmm... can't say which I enjoy the most to use. I've not had the pleasure of trying them all out... yet. I would have to side I like them all. :::evil grinz::: But I do like the pistols & a blunderbuss... my tomohawks, knives.. & of course, my kick arse sword! Though, I do enjoy the cannons. Love 'em to death - hehehehe - when out there on the battlefield. Though, being a dragoon... my other weapon would by my horse.... a charging horse with a sword in hand... is a dangerous & frightening sight. ::Evil grinz:: Yes, I follow after the likes of Tarleton, God bless him. Course.. tying quite a bit of black ribbons in my hair, I would use them as a strangling tool as well. :evil grinz:: Cat-o-nines would be another fun weapon. My own fingernails.... I have been know to claw people, mostly by accident. ::ponders:: the use of my legs would be a nasty weapon indeed. :::Evil grinz::: I'd use anything & everything.... depends upon the circumstances.
  14. 'appy Birthday, luv! May ya get tons of swag to fill your treasure. HUZZAH! :::tosses ya rum from private stock:::
  15. I picked it up & read it. It was cute. But... kinda... cheesy. Many funny parts to it. Which saved it. But ... I am looking forward to the next one. Well.. I look forward to some PotC swag in the fall.
  16. Hmm... can't say much of favorites.. since I haven't see a lot of them. I JUST saw "Long John Silver" the other day on a local TV station... been wanting to see that for many years! I agree with Hawkyns.. the Charlton Heston "Treasure Island" is the best on thus far! LOVE it! Heston made a FANTASTIC Silver. Disney's "Treasure Island" I still love as well. Robert Newton was so great. I would like to see "Blackbeard the Pirate" sometime. ::knocks on the wood of the Black Pearl::: LOVE "The Goonies"!! Just great! "Pirates".. I saw it once, kinda remember it, not much though. But I liked it. "Muppet Treasure Island"... Yeah I watched it the other night as well, Christine. I just laughed at a few spots including when Silver was singing in the galley when we first meet him... ahhhh, brought back memories when at the Chicago get together. I've seen "The Buccaneer"... Yul Bryner & Charlton Heston - again more Heston involved in pyratical fun - got to love those 2. Still pirate movie deprived. So.. need to find them & watch them. But... my favs... be "Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl" & "the Goonies".
  17. JACK! Yer gonna put me into Political mode here. Not a pretty sight! Just goes to show how much our Forefather's are doing a 100+ mph rottisserie in their graves.
  18. Hmm.. Jas. Townsend for patterns, sewing materials.. & other items from the pewter ware to a tent! But... other items.... I've not come to buy online.. other than my sword I got from Online Swords (don't think they are around any more). Otherwise... I be buying my swag from various places around like Wal Mart, Claries... or even Avon. I'm fickle & picky about the lovely shine that I wish to create my treasure from. & Thus far... with the jewelry I have ... it's rather fancy enough to make King's & Queen's whimper iwth envy! Though.... I was looking at some swag on Ferncanyonpress.. like the replica coins. Also looking at getting coinage from Jas Townsend. ::Evil grinz:: As well as their brass spyglass. Items.. well... where ever I can find it... especially from what others show me, via links to sites or what I hear about the camps. :: Evil grinz::
  19. I've spoken with ..::thinks:: can't remember their official titles... but they are with the Law Enforcement Angencies of the various states. Re-enactors are free to transport weapons, no need for a liscense unless you intend to fire the weapon with a projectile, ie bullet. & well.... for certain safety reasons... we know we won't fire a bullet. Or better not, lest some of the SoB will shoot ya in return. But.. certification, is not necessary. Though, inspection as mentioned depending upon who you are with, from units/regt to associations of certain period events. I know the BAR is rather strict on some rules. As long as someone is well aware of using a firing weapon & it's care... then most couldn't care if they are liscensed, certified, etc. I'm sure if you spent $800 on a musket, I'm sure you will be taking REAL good care of the weapon! But... Any ideas all? Besides talking with Track of the Wolf? Dixie Gunworks? Anyone else who would be inclined to make them?
  20. Appreciate the concern, Mr. Young. Aye... I'm aware of what firing is. I re-enact the Am Rev War, despite I am a rookie still.. being this my 3rd year, though won't be doing any events this year since I will be assisting my sis, having just found out she has cancer. I've seen what happens with pistols & muskets kinda neglected ... even over night at the camp sites. LOTS to go into the care of those weapons. Course, depends on their quality though, too. But.. aye... I want both a firing & non-firing one. I know others out there who be wanting a firing & non- firing replica of the pistol. I've checked with Track of the Wolf, Dixie Gunworks... Didn't have much luck there other than just telling me about their models. Just need to find someone willing to make the pistol.
  21. Must be a mighty fine pair o' stockings there, Redd! The frock be one item, but t' have stockings! Oooooh, ye be a mighty one indeed! :) Do they have a fancy design upon the side of 'em? Hmm? A good selection there, too, Mr. Young. :) I love adornments as well. Jewelry, beads, fancy trim.... anyone wear such finery that only Kings & Queens wear? Hmm? Something fancy you may have stolen from a ship or bought with plunder?
  22. AHOY there, shipmates! Anyone have any ideas or places to suggest of who be willing to make firing & non-firing replicas of Barbossa's pistol?
  23. :::looks at current frock coat:: Well, mine be black... black as the darkest night without the silvery moon. :: evil grinz:: Though... it be trimmed with silver/gold/blue lacing & antiqued fancy metal buttons. I do plan to make m'self another frock coat, a bit fancier than m' black coat. It'll be scarlet or crimson red. ::evil grinz:: If any other coats or waistcoats... depends upon which material capture my eyes... & there be a few out there now that are rather nice. :) Even some material at the local Hancock fabrics to make a rather lovely sack back gown.
  24. From what I read from No Quarter Given back in July, from what Lee Arenberg said... Rush & Verbinski thought of the idea. Kinda a reference to Snow White. Plus... Long John had apples with him in Treasure Island. I think apples have a certain pyratical symbolism there, as fruit was a luxury then. But what I have been told is the symbolism of the color of the apples. Green apples meaning "Redemption", red apples meaning "Sin". I even noticed when Elizabeth ate... she had meat, followed by bread & red wine... now... since it's just Easter, any of you who are familiar with religion... bread meaning the Body & red wine the Blood. Kinda like a communion to sanctify & cleans the sinner, or whatever to be received. She nearly fell for it all, but didn't have the apple. But... Jack ate the green apple. The blood.. well, a varity of ways again... but again, back to religious points here... remember, blood was spilled to the Aztec Gods... though they don't know the specific reason other than they know who was mostly sacrificed... captured warriors. Or, like Christ who shed his blood to wash away the sins... hence Will's blood, being innocent, besides having his father's blood as well. Another would be.. if Will died, would the God's allow the curse to be lifted? The being on the side of the chest was not an Aztec God, but Inca... being the Supreme Inca God... one of his ... things... was morals. blood must be spilt, yes.... but if Will was killed, would be murder... more than likely, Viracocha would not have agreed to the death of an innocent despite it was the blood of Bootstrap as well. Viracocha would not punish an innocent. Green apples are ok. A bit tart, sour. Red apples watery, depending on which ones you get. I enjoy the golden apples. Because they are not tart, not too sweet, soft & juicy... etc. Eve was the one wo originally sinned & took the forbidden fruit at the advice of the snake. I don't think Barbossa would be the Adam symbol, but more the snake... if you look at the heavy necklace around Barbossa's neck.. which looks like some poison holder or something... in a large snake ornament. The poisoned part could be in reference to the Snow White bit. But the apples could be a variety of others like Treasure Island. But the symbolism of the green apples means "Redemption". Hence, that is what Barbossa was after.. to be redeemed from the curse. Rock on about this subject. I enjoy it greatly. A lot that can still be played off of with the Aztec part of it. :: evil grinz:: Anastazia
  25. Desert Pyrate.... I've not heard of anyone from any of the Rev War or F & I regtments getting any attire from Jas. A couple people were pondering it, but decided to opt with the pattern. I've seen their stuff at Silver Lake, WI a couple times. Not too bad looking, but.. most people I know make their own by buying the patterns or have someone they know make it with the pattern. A couple people go through G. Gedney Godwin - granted they are MUCH more expensive. Ghost Forge is pretty good though. Though a few other sulters out east are decent enough & are found at re-enactments. Though.. in your location, not sure. I haven't attempted to allow them to make clothes... I just buy the pattern... better that way. But the rest of the items they have there.. I am more than pleased with. Including they tents... worth getting my friends! & yes.. I know what you mean about over spending with Townsend. Just SO much stuff that you just gotta have!
