  1. Ahhh... Interesting. I'm SOOO very tempted to go. I'd love to since I haven't gotten out that direction. I suppose if I would go.. I'd join the British Legion. Going in garb with no unit, huh? Hmmm. Good luck to ya then. Ummm.. in garb as what? Colonials? Well.. if the event I was planning to go to at the end of this month falls through (which just got an email from my commander, he's unable to attend), then I MAY be able to make it. Just need to find a place to set up camp & all though.
  2. Yup... very much so. I'd like to go myself. But ... we shall see. Depends on the price of gas next year though, too. The Grand Ball I'm sure would be something VERY spectacular! To see many people there dressed in the finest from various eras.
  3. Attention all those in the Chicagoland region & where ever reachable! Found out about this from the NWTA forum. Sounds like fun! Reenactor Fest in St. Charles IL March 10-12 2006 This is a new event for the Chicagoland area. It may prove to be a big trade show that is close by for many of us. Please see their great website at: http://www.reenactorfest.com/
  4. I am SOOOOO iching to go. I really am. Alas, Lee's Legion in the NWTA won't be there. I believe that the British Legion will be there. But.. I'm not entirely a soldier. ::ponders:: If by some miracle of God I get to go.. believe me, you will know, Capt'n. Ooooh, how FUN that will be! I've not been to Charleston yet. I know I will there for the 225th of Cowpens Jan 2006. I'm pondering Camden in Nov Which unit or regiment will you be with?
  5. To... the 225th Seige of Charlestowne?
  6. Orlando is a lucky lad to have gotten into this business. I give him credit for that. As well as his looks & his acting is not bad. He's his own style. Like I said... I've seen some good & some bad acting. Locally mostly. I love getting out there in the public eyes all dresed up for not just the idea of dressing up in an outfit... but the whole of it... the acting, the creating a whole different realm for those others around me. I do it for the fun... not the money (LOl, what money, I never see any of it anyway... it's more a hobby).
  7. Aye! I very excited as well! Eager to meet the lot of ya.
  8. OK.. I asked Mr Breza on some hotels in the area for anyone that may want or need to stay overnight. Here's what he replied back with: Here is a list of places to try. They are not ranked in any sort of order. The only bad place, and it is not on my list to you, is the Ramada Inn so avoid it. AmericInn- 920-232-0300. Very close to the museum and right across the street from the Howard Johnson. Right next to exit Hwy 21- Hwy 41. Not sure of the price or how clean. Holiday Inn Express- 920-303-1300. On the other side of the ramp from the AmericInn. Might be higher priced but very close to museum and food spots. Howard Johnson, 920-233-1200. Older hotel, might be not so clean but ought to be cheap. Right across the street from AmericInn. Hawthorn Inn, 800-527-1133. Newest hotel, ought to be clean but higher in price I would think. Just off the highway 41 about 2 miles from the exit to the museum. Could you give me a conservative estimate on how many pirates that you have talked to might be here please? This will help in my plans and my contacts. Thanks! Artifacts and artwork ought to show up in April!! Michael Breza Assistant Director Oshkosh Public Museum
  9. LOL... Northwest Territory Alliance www.nwta.com (Sorry there is no link, comp is all screwy). I just try to stick with Pirates & Patriots at the moment. That's more than enough for me to handle. So.. have we all decided on a date for the Invasion? I'll be in Bourbonnais, IL for a Rev War re-enactment April 30 - May 1
  10. Awesome! For those of you wanting to help out. Thank you GREATLY Red Bess & Sjöröveren.... Pete.. hope to see you there. I will try & eventually get a better idea of the compensation that they have in mind for us. I think I may do an over nighter as well... unfortunately. But.. aye.. we can also treat this as an Invasion, too. Black hearted Pearl... I will most definitely have pictures taken. LOTS of them! I am known to be a photo whore.. as some would say. I can often use 3 to 8 rolls of film in 1 weekend!
  11. I'll keep my eyes open, Rigger. I know someone had a Roanoke & they were willing to sell it ( for $25) .. which I kinda felt rather cheesed out that they got it & was selling it! Aye.. I just got lucky to get ahold of her after only a few packs. I was a very happy Continental. it's a fun game. ... IF people can play. Hope they enjoy it, Pete! Hopefully we can play the game at our Invasion... whenever it be.
  12. Looks like one of the photos they took from the Blacksmith's shop. I believe I have seen the image before.
  13. LOL.. Oooooh.. I know that one, Bess. Even the poor lad that lives around here (haven't seen him in ages.. but then again, haven't been to a movie other than what I am subjected to at the IMAX)..... in ages! Though.. I swear it.. along with a couple friends of mine.. he's an Orlando clone! Looks just like him, acts like him, dresses like him, etc... & attracts the girls like nothin' I've ever seen! I'm rather entertained watching the crowd drool... I'll be standing there laughing my butt off, passing out drool buckets & lord knows whatever next. As to Orlando's acting... :: Shrugs:: I guess I wouldn't know much since I've not been around the lad. (yes, I can get away with that, he's a kid to me, younger than I am) I've seen some good acting & some bad acting. I'm no sweeper myself.
  14. Eager for the films also.. but.. Aye.. I prefer the surprise. LOL... like last time... I truly had NO idea what I watching.. until I purchased that ticket. Again, imagine my joy when I found out that it was a period film.. having just gotten back from a re-enactment.. & was going to indulge my thrill of seeing more gents in breeches! WOOHOO! Yeah... there are TONS of people out there that are just TOO eager to know about the sequels to keep their mouths shut. Kinda hard to get interested in something when people chatter about it a lot.
  15. There is a copy on VHS at the local Blockbuster here. I've seen it a few times. I believe I've seen every version of Treasure Island done on film.. & I like this one with CHarlton Heston, Christian Bale, etc... MUCH better than any other. The Robert Newton one is still a classic... but the recent version I think is well done & right on the money with the actual book. Aye... I've been awaiting to get my paws on pirate films like this one. STILL no store around here can nor will be able to get ahold of them. :: Groans; grumbles:: rather annoing.
  16. I've been doing rather decently trading with other fellow folks on the PotSM CCG yahoogroups list. I've gotten who I want via there. Aye... I've the new El Phantasma. Different look to the name, image is dark but good nonetheless. Le Requin .. I think looks like Cascabel. It's absolutely hilarious. Sides... eBay... with the Roanoke... I feel rather grossed out that one can get that very rare ship there. Unlike for the small amount of us who got it luck & chance. :: Gazing at the Roanoke:: Lovely ship.
  17. Awesome! Wel.. let me discuss this & let Mr Breza know. I'm sure he can assist with where for us to stay if need be & other ideas. If any of you have any ideas, belt them out. I'm curious to hear them. Mr Breza mentioned he'd like to see a swordfight. I'm a bit leary on that. But only if we have a couple people who work on that & make sure people are well enough away. Though, I'd like to have a trial or 2. :: grinz:: But... what he has in mind, thus far.. ::points to the above posts:: take a look & see. But I will still ask Mr BReza what else he may have us do. Oh! If ANYONE has the NQG song book, we can sing a few songs. As to drinking, again.. no alcohol, but I will bring some Sarsparilla along & the closest to rum we will get with either be Sat night or I can bring some of those Tsunami "Jack Sparrow" truffles. :: HUGE grins:: Anyway... fabulous! Thank you greatly all ya's!
  18. Civ War, huh, Pete? Interesting. Though I understand about that. Ditto with me in a manner of speaking. But... I don't know when we'd all be able to do the exhibit for one. Let alone an Invasion. & Yes, April is fast approaching. Which... I'm STILL awaiting.. & trying to be patient. As it's best to get EVERYONE's input on when to hold it. But alas... I know people are busy... I'm the same & always battling one of these bloody damn comps (wants to demolish it). We DO need to set up a date to hold it. If people come, they come, if they don't... oh, well. Sucks for them... they miss out. Pete.. you may know a few people I know in the NWTA. I know that some Rev War re-enactors are also Civ war re-enactors.
  19. Oooo, just received another email. Check it out all you midwest priates! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes we are getting on loan from Don Maitz 14 of his paintings. We are getting in shipwreck artifacts from the Mel Fisher museum and the Tallahassee State of Florida museum that tend to be everything including the kitchen sink of Spanish Galleons stuff. The artifacts come from the 1600 something wreck and the 1722 hurricane wrecks of silver plate fleets from out of Panama. Sorry not much on treasure, as you can imagine why, but plenty of what remains of weapons, tools, ship parts, personal items, ceramics, glass, cast iron, cannon balls, musket shot.... all of these artifacts fall within the Golden Age of Piracy time frame. All told we ought to have maybe 30 some artifacts from shipwrecks. We are having loaned to us a short musket, brass barreled blunderbuss, Royal Navy cutlass, and the famous Captain Cook's short sword from a museum in Canada. These are all 18th century artifacts. From the National Firearms Museum we are having loaned to us three splendid examples of pistols from the 18th century. From the Oshkosh Public Museum we are pulling out several pistols and a musket from the 18th century. One pistol is all brass covered in the Moroccan or Moorish fashion and another pistol has a wide duckbill like barrel muzzle- it is to die for! All told we ought to have about 12 artifact weapons on display. The Blackbeard artifacts from Queen Anne's Revenge are NOT on loan to us due to not getting a large sum of money to cover that expense soon enough. We still could if another sponsor comes through. But to mount this exhibit we have to press forward with what we have now. If we get a sponsor in the next 3 or 4 weeks then we still could bring in Queen Anne's Revenge exhibit for 10 weeks out of the 20 that the exhibit is open, but as a "side" exhibit, next to the main pirate exhibit. This is just a bit of difficulty in managing many different artifacts coming together from many different sources all at the same time. It is a juggling act to say the least but a fun job to manage. I am working on bringing in just a few film props. Oddly it has been easier to track down artifacts over 200 years old than a hat used in a film that is 5 years old! Oh well. This in not firm yet but I think it will work. All of this is without the hands-on stuff we will create here and have installed within the exhibit. We will have dress-up station with three coats and three tricorns. A sword fight to the death hands on station, 8 different ship's smells, examples of gross foods eaten on board, name that pirate flag challenge, name that real pirate challenge, name that Hollywood pirate challenge, hands-on spy glass, hands-on swivel gun, and the biggest thing of them all...you get to load a fake cannon! What little kid, or warped adult, would not want to try that out? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Indeed! What warped adult wouldn't want to try all this out! Come ON all you Midwest pirates! Unite & lets help with this!
  20. Aye... I know what ya mean, Pete. I'm eager for the lot of us to get out that direction & commandeer the Windy! HEY, all! the Windy has a CANNON! It sounds like you came upon a good amount of plunder, Pete! :) Oh! Memo to you all... Mr. Breza emailed me this morning about the exhibit. I updated the info which is under Raids. From his end, he's been getting some fabulous sponsorship & support. Though... I still have yet to heard from people if anyone be willing to come. So far.. it's just me. I'd like to get as many pirates there as possible to help with the kick off of this thing. even character pirates from Blackbeard & Bart Roberts to Jack Sparrow & Long John Silver... to any other created character. The info of what Mr. Breza has in mind is there under the Oshkosh Exhibit topic in Raids. Hopefully a good amount of pirates can come to help promote this.
  21. I received another email from Mr. Breza this morning & this has me VERY psyched! ~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hey I just wanted you to know that the Oshkosh Public Museum has gotten in $10,000 in sponsorship dollars for the Pirates exhibit. We are expecting more but this major sum will enable us to cover the basic core of the exhibit, that is the shipping in of artifacts from Florida, Canada and the east coast of the US. We are on a roll! Michael Breza Assistant Director Oshkosh Public Museum 1331 Algoma Blvd Oshkosh WI 54901 phone 920-424-4750 email brezam@publicmuseum.oshkosh.net ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Wow! I'm still planning on going ahead with having as many pirates as possible to show up that weekend - June 18th & possibly also the 19th - to help promote this exhibit. This won't be the only time that we will grace this exhibit. :) Please.. by all means let me know if you are coming on June 18th & 19th. Mr. Breza would like to have a tally so we can make proper arrangements for the piracy invasion.
  22. Wicked! Though... I'm a bit bummed about not seeing the Bounty soon. I LOVe that ship. Tis a thing between Toby who is the resident Jack Sparrow in Chicago (REALLY good one, too)... he has the Surprise... I have the Bounty. Part of a LONG story. ::le sigh:: They BETTER take care of that ship! I want to see her again soon! Curious as to what name she will be called. Blast it.. I am SOOO kicking myself I didn't get a pc of myself in my pirate attire at the helm of the Bounty. Though... I do have a pic of myself at the helm nonetheless. Have I mentioned that I love the Bounty? That info on the Black Pearl is cool. Hopefully means that she will be a bit more seaworthy than the barge they had last time. Maybe some pirate fests in the future... PiP.. ? Hmm? :) I know I am continuously hearing some bits & pieces here & there. Even someone just posted somewhere about a conflict... was mentioned by BBC... that the Carib Natives of Domincan Republic or thereabouts.. are a bit angered due to "false portrayals".. :: rolls eyes annoyingly:: Hey, Royaliste.. you have to admit.. that part of Orlando crawling on the ground like a mama's boy was classic! :) BTW.. how many times has Orlando's dog been spoiled now on set? Anyone else adoring the black dog. ... black dog... a pirate film.... again,
  23. The 2 game shops here & the Super Target still has PLENTY of packs here in Cedar Rapids. Now that Crimson Coast is out... I wonder if they will keep up with the demand there. I've only been able to buy one pack thus far. So many people have bought so many packs already. Even someone who I watched by a whole unopened box! Where these people get the money to by a box well over $100 is beyond me. But the new stuff in Crimson Coast is very wicked! A few ships & characters I want... all pirate of course. Especially the mysterious lady Crimson Angel.. the ghost ship Deliverance.. & the new card of El Phantasma. Notice they changed the spelling of his name & more. I saw the card.. it's FAR better than the Spanish Main card. Havana Black I was able to get in a trade.. he's COOL!
  24. :) Aye, wolfy... I'm VERY pleased with the MR Aztec Gold. Made of metal I haven't had troubles with it. I have sensative skin & it hasn't irritated my skin. So.. that's a plus. It states that it's gold plated. :: Shrugs:: I can't really deny that or confirm it. But.. all in all.. it's a fabulous possession.
  25. Aye! I be with ya there, Bess! Celebrations starts now until whenever we feel like it should end... maybe it will end in April! ::::Rolls in 3 kegs of rum, 2 whiskey barrels & 1 wine barrel:::: DRINKS ALL AROUND! As to a summer invasion... well, June 18th is that Pirate exhibit opening in Oshkosh WI. I'm planning to be there.... despite a Rev War re-enactment that weekend. Mr. Breza would like to have some pirates come to kick it off & help promote it. He's a couple ideas... & I've gotten ahold of a couple ideas, plus one that Barbossa has suggested.. which I am hoping that it can be done, would be great to do it. So... tally on who goes to the Pirate exhibit Invasion Mr Breza would like. Who knows... we may also have another summer Invasion 'round about the time of Bristol... IF there be a good amount goin'. I know that a lass from Ohio was thinkin' 'bout goin' this year t' Bristol. Who knows... they MAY have another tall ships type fest again. Since we missed out on that one last year & the previous year. The Bounty was fabulous to visit. Damn it all t' hell that I didn't wear my pirate outfit. Alas, Toby was able to in his Jack Sparrow outfit.. when the Bounty was all adorned as the ghost ship! Blast him...
