Just thinking of Halloween makes me long for the Autumn Season. And I look forward to decorating our house too. Now I got to start thinking on costumes for this year, especially for the wee lad.

That is a wonderful idea Lily. I enjoy sharing recipes. As for tonight, we are going out to our friends house to eat. We were invited to dinner and I am looking forward to it immensely. Cathy is a fantastic cook. I can't wait to see what she is cooking for tonight. I am sure I won't be disappointed.

I don't have any thing probably helpful to add, but in our modern times the mark of an X is still used. I worked eight years in the corporate world, specifically for a title company. I handled many documentations through out my day. And I became an authority on signatures or the lack there of. An X can still be used as long as you have an affidavit and witness signatures. It also varies from state to state and county to county as well. As for the question on literacy in both reading and writing one must look too at the education of the time period and who was allowed to be educated. For instance, the majority of women were not always educated and it depended upon her Father or Guardian if she were to be taught both reading and writing. Also, one must look at the different classes and stations of the people. Just some thoughts to think on or look in to for further investigation in to the possibilities of literacy or illliteracy.

Blackbeard, how very interesting. I would be very interested to see some picutres of you and your wife in your different kits. Is there any way you can post them please. I would love to especially see the outfit you will be wearing for the Civil War re-enactment. The Civil War is a great interest to me.

I have always been interested in the Edmund Fitzgerald, perhaps because it was such a recent event in our modern times or because of the song by Gordon Lightfoot. Maybe both. As a young child and even as an adult the song still captures my emotions whenever I hear it. A few years ago, while at work, there was a radio broadcast of the ceremony where they tolled the bell for each member lost aboard the Fitz. It was a very eerie feeling and sound to hear the bell. It was like you could feel the presence of those whose lives were taken. There were a few of us that bowed our heads in silence as the bell tolled. Thank you for the memory and the reminder of the Annuversary. May those aboard who were lost be at rest and may they never be forgotten.

I have seen these candles before. They are awesome. My son's babysitter has a few. I think hers actually gives off a scent too when it is on. I have been wanting to pick up a few. I will have to ask her what catalog she ordered hers from.

I am sorry for the interruption on the quotes. Thanks for explaining the rules. Me thinks the picture of Sean Connery thru me off a bit. Aye, Mission, you are correct....it was the Unforgiven. And I look forward to your next quote you post.

BriarRose awoke with a start. The dream had come again. Closing her eyes, she tried to will the remnants of the dream away. She was safe. He would not find her. She willed herself to breathe normally. Next to her, Maeve continued to sleep. Her rhythmic breathing eased the last shreds of fear from BriarRose. The sun’s rays glistened through the curtains. Unable to sleep any more, BriarRose quietly got out of bed. Putting on her robe, she went downstairs to check on their patient

Okay here is another quote...hopefully this is not as easy as the last one: "It's a hell of a thing killing a man... You take away all he's got, and all he's ever gonna' have "

Dorian and I started watching Zardoz one night. And all I can say is that it was very sad indeed. Needless to say we did not finish the movie.

Sesame Street, specifically Elmo's World. I definitely need a radio for in the kitchen so while I am cleaning I stay some what sane.

Closing the book, BriarRose stood up and stretched. Preston had been sleeping comfortably for quite some time. With one last look at her patient she picked up the candle and headed for the stairs. Once up stairs she quietly undressed and put on her night gown. Taking her brush from the night stand she unraveled her hair and let the thick coils fall about her shoulders. With a rhythmic motion she began brushing out her long red tresses. Putting aside the brush, BriarRose climbed gently in to bed as not to disturb Maeve from her sleep. Leaning over she blew out the candle and eased her self back upon the pillow. With a satisfied sigh, BriarRose, fell in to a deep sleep.

Aye, you are both correct Red-Handed Jill and Hester. I am sorry I made that one too easy. I did like the movie, but ignored Kevin Costner as much as possible. And, yes, Patrick Bergin, played an excellent Robin Hood.
-
I do apologize dear Bess, but you did make me laugh. I hope you weren't on hold too long. Ooh and Red-Handed Jill is right....the Muzak version would have been very sad indeed.

The day had worn on with Maeve and BriarRose taking turns watching their patient. At last as the day came to a close, BriarRose insisted that Maeve get some sleep. “Go on now. You need your rest more than I do. I will tend to Preston a bit longer and I will soon be following you up the stairs.” Said BriarRose Bleary eyed, Maeve could only nod and bidding her friend a good night she trudged up the stairs. Heaving a sigh, Briar turned to the patient to make sure he was comfortable. He had slept most of the day which was a good sign that rest was helping him heal. His fever had only spiked once in the late afternoon. She was content that the patient would soon be over the critical stage, but she also knew he would have a long road to recovery. Sitting down in a chair beside the surgeon’s table, the candle flame flickered. BriarRose, looked about the room sensing a change yet not quite understanding what she felt. For a moment the air grew cool and the flame seemed to leap high then flicker ominously. She shook her head and stated clearly, “Death shall not come this night. Move on from whence you came from.” The room once again became warm and the air was still once more. Preston heaved a heavy sigh in his sleep. BriarRose sat back in the chair and opened up a book. She would wait a bit before retiring to bed. With that thought in mind, she looked at the patient one more time before she bent her head over the open book and began to read.

May a post a movie quote please? "Is there no sun in this cursed country." any guesses?

Thanks for the Laugh Iron Bess.......

Nay, dear Hester. I have my own recipe that I use to bread my chicken with. I create a combination of herbs with regular bread crumbs.
-
Baked breaded chicken with potatoes, carrots, cauliflower, and broccoli, with chives, pepper and garlic then marinated in Mediteranian dressing. And for dessert....mint chip chocolate pudding.....mmm, heaven.

I am sorely missing the sounds of Pennsic. The drums, the flutes, the harpsicords, and the singing...as well as other sounds that create an ambiance of magic. Right now I can hear Dragon Tales on the T.V.
