Declare sumthin' about yerself that no one knows
Red Cat Jenny replied to CaptainCiaran's topic in Beyond Pyracy
Summin no one else knows? I know pirates!!!! ok...well YOU guys know.. -
I looked up these rates,,and forgive my ignotance on this subject, but what does the *d* stand for? Also in terms of buying passage, I need it more in terms of a sum of ..healthy persuasion.. due to a desperate situation rather than actual cost

I had too much to dream last night
Red Cat Jenny replied to Diego Santana de la Vega's topic in Beyond Pyracy
TAll Mike, 1) Were ye perhaps playing Super Mario brothers before bed? 2) Perhaps the altitude is affecting you By the way my aforementioned dream also included a full dress marching band in an entirely unlikely place...(gosh, did I just admit that?) -

Just a daily monetary reference. As in what would be the 1700's equivalent of about $1,000 today? So if say, someone wanted to offer a tidy sum for passage on a ship (think bribe), or stole a purse worth quite a bit, let's say the period equivalent of stealing $10,000 today.? Also with all the trading between countries (Spice, Molasses, Sugar, textiles, slaves, rum)etc, it's a bit confusing because I suppose you would have French, Dutch, Spanish and English currency floating about as well as possibly early American notes? Was gold a different standard.. kind of like the Euro today where the countries monetary system didn't matter? EX: Pieces of eight or gold pieces of a standard value no matter where you were? I know there were silver bars and such, but I am thinking more on the lines of portable cash/notes....

History is not just about forces such as economics or ideology or geography. It is also shaped often, most decisively, by the aims and ambitions of deeply flawed men

I am trying to get accurate currency comparisons for the GaOP. I found this calculator, but it's a bit confusing. Trying to determine what in Brittish or Spanish currency of the time would be about what 1 dollar is today. Any help would be appreciated Calculator Found this as well, which answers part of the question..then again it's late and my brain is at half mast.. What did it cost in the 18th Century?

^My parents and my grandmother. Wiser, kinder and more silly people than I have ever met with hearts of gold. <Considering that bag of Fritos right now.... V Ever been bit by anything?

Well I DID say it was for fun but the period clothes (tho a bit late for GaOP )were nice and since some of you do other periods... I love super detailed paintings like these where it takes you several minutes to take in all the detail. It's like reading a book. Plus I coudn't help teasing about the boots since he looks so piratey Jim, I pity whomever is in the upper right with that axe held over him! BlackJohn, I WAS impressed by the General pictured plowing into the fray from the front, ahead of the flag men even. By the way Patton is one of my favorite movies. Saw it on tv when I was 14 and loved it even then!

Well for one...Oi! Now I'm hungry! Hmm find myself gravitating towards more fish, carib sauces, mango and orange juice (Nantucket Nectars yum!) and Coconut Lime moisturizer. Mostly stopping by the shore and just staring.........at the horizon.

Harbormaster ye have th right vacation attitude.!!.and by the way I'd love to retire to yer resort someday (checked th website) I think we'd all like ta be thereI am an avid snorkler who hadn't had the guts to dive without a real course. (Don't trust those hotel pool classes) But yes by all means absorb the local life! I ditch my watch and cell in the room when I travel for pleasure. However, mebbe cause I'm a lass.. I can't abide icky lumpy broken dirty or underequipped in my hotel. Most especially if I'm shellin out me plunder for it. However if I planned t go "local" or "rustic" then that's different. I have done that as well. Just can't abide unpleasant surprises.
