Ok I just got off the Captain Twill thread. It was mention that somepeople would like to have a fancy event. I am all for that I am old school SCA and know what kind of work is involved. What I would like to start with is ideas as to what people would like to have there? Second how many people would consider themselves close to Kohler, WI and be willing to drive here for a discution group and plan the event.
I would say that this kind of event would be great. I think it would be hard to do anywhere in the US because of population density. Pick a spot in the US that has more than 25 pirates with in one hour drive of one another. Then have someone volunteer do set it up and clean up after words. I am old school SCA so I know how hard all that work is. If this is the kind of events we would like we could do them. I just got some projects started and would love to get together with other people to talk about them and learn about other pirates. Check out the Raids section for my info about that idea.
Ok you all, you do know the reality behind pirates. Now I am asking what if any difference there is between Street gangs and Pirates. And the first one that points out that gangs are not on the water will be strung up from the yard arm.
Well I have two projects on the docks now. One is a Dolphin SR, this one needs serious hull work, a new sail, new dagger board, new rudder and new rigging. The second is a Ghost 13, this one needs everything but hull work.
I am going to launch a new buisness. I am going to build and repair boats. When I am done with a boat I want people to say "They just don't make them like that anymore." I enjoy working in wood and have lots of carpentry experience. I am learning to work in fiberglass so I should have most of the basics covered. Now what I really need is to find the various hardware that boats need. Any questions or advice are welcome.
I have been looking into wind power for the farm. It is a large investment initally but I believe that I will start making a return in 7 years. After that it will be all profit and my power for free. Now all I need is the capital.
I got Captain Jack Sparrow at 83%, Lara Croft at 63%, William Wallace at 63%. I figure that 83% is pretty high and that is all right with me. I really rely on luck too much.
Ok I can find the stuff I need. It looks like I am not going to take the hull apart. It is resined together. I am still debating about trying to cut a access panel or do the work from the outside. I am a little confused as to what I am seeing in the hole. It seems that there are two layers one (the outside) is white and the other (the inside) is yellow and looks like a pattern of chicken wire on it. I am going to cut out the rough edges tomorrow and get a pen light into it and see what it all looks like. Keep a weather eye out for me.
The damage is on the hull near the keel. It is a hole about 1"x2 1/2" with about a 6" crack leading aft from that. There is another crack in the cockpit about 8" long running from stem to stern. I have a few stress cracks that won't give me any problem after that is all fixed. I will also need to replace the sail, rigging, and rudder. I am looking at about $500 in damage.
Ok I need help here. If I can't get help here please direct me to somewhere else. I am looking at repairing a very old and neglected Dolphin SR sailboat. I have to get the top and bottom molds apart. How would I do this without causeing more damage?
OK I have finally figured out some key things on this boat. It is sure taking my a long time but remember that I have two small girls that I love to spend time with. Ok there is no forward or aft cabin. But there is a forward and aft deck. Also a full well amid ship. I finally figured out about 90% of the plans. I don't know how to draw the botton curve or make the sails. I can start on the frame work. I should have somthing that resembles boat parts soon. Look for pictures at the end of July.
