I posted a picture of my Pyrate hats..... https://pyracy.com/gallery/details.php?...631&mode=search #1. Is a Jas Townson hat blank, that I reblocked (1). #2. Is a Tarplin (2) hat with plumes #3. Is a cut down and re-blocked Buccaneer hat. #4. Another Tarplin hat #5. Another re-blocked felt hat. (1) When I re-block a hat, I fill the top of the hat with boiling water, when it soaks through, I then stretch the hat over a coffee can to get teh new shape. (2) Tarplin hats are made out of canvas, and then painted with semi-gloss oil based paint. they turn out kinda stiff, but don't blow off yer head....

I got looking at a really old belt of mine, noticing how it was worn and aged, I then started to "age" my pyrate belt.... Tools needed... file sandpaper a hammer small chunk of canvas or rough cloth tablespoon On the old belt, the edges are rounded and smooth, so I used the file and sandpaper to shape the newer belt that way, I then dampened the edges with water and using the hammer, pounded the "fuzzyness" off the edge untill it was smooth and rounded. I used the tablespoon and then the canvas to burnish any remaining rough fuzzy spots. When it was done, the edges were slightly shinny, but looked like the old belt. To add some "wear" to the surfice of the belt, I dampened it, and using the handle of the spoon, carved (but not cut) some dings into the belt. The next step is to oil the leather, and slightly polish it (my boss is a horse person, so I will "borrow" some of her leather oil) This way, makes the leather look old and worn, but does not weaken it....

Posted elsewhere about this "project".... but may as well post it again here.... (that way when I sober up... I may be able to find it....) Steve Jackson (game designer) has rules for "Pyrate Wars"(Lego Battles) they are really cool.... I want to re-write them (to make them even simpler/easy) so I can try to run a game at next years Ojai Pyrate Faire..... I figure I will make some "waterline" ship models, moulds for casting/pressing sculpy pyrate figures, set everything up for a "quick and easy" pyrate game (in kinda large scale,.... so it "looks ' good....) and try to get people to play, or yell/chear (Panzer Pranks had a fun idea about this)... maybe even make two pyrate hats (one for the winner on Saturday, and Sunday) as prizes.... Make it fun for the players, and to run....... Aaaaargh......
-
I was just thinking about "pyrate talk"..... I naturaly have a deap voice, but when in a parade or "playing" pyrate, I drop it even deeper..... (Long John Silver....) But wot got me thinking...... when I "drop" my voice, I get into the "Mood/spirit" of the "play pyrate bit...... it just kinda "works" that way......
-
Yay.... dance...dance....dance....... ooops.... I mean Aaaaargh...... I told my boss that I wanted to go, and she said to get her the "details" so we can arange everything............ (I have a really wierd/interesting relationship with my boss.... I tell her what or where I wanna go "play" and she gets me there.....) So I will be serching the internet for the best airfaire, and sending a buncha e-mails......

They went into my checked baggage..... security was kinda "fun" about the "fake" pistol.... I signed the paper that declaired that it wasn't loaded.... but they wern't sure what to do about non-firing weapons..... the cutlass they had no problem with..... But my spyglass did cause some "consern" (it shows up as a possible bomb....) next time it goes into checked baggage..... but the shrunken head was too much fun.........
-
Well...... where did you think ALL those wondering monsters came from....... Hummm. do wonder what was on page 69................
-
..."And when I found you, you were to drunk to buy brandy...."
-
When I went to Pyrates in Paridice, I wore mine..... well I wore all my pyrate stuff..... made for interesting converstaion..... and you should have seen the expressions on the kids faces when a pyrate walked by..... Of course going through security was also interesting...
-
The "dinner" thing didn't work out as I hoped...... OH well.... and I forgot to take any photos..... I'm making a new shirt (for my "other" Pyrate stuff), outta some small indigo blue checked fabric (OK.... so it's cotton, I got it for $2.00 a yard.....) I really like checked shirts, and got wondering..... I know checks are period.... but would it have been common or available to a Buccaneer? Any thoughts ....... If I decide to use checks, then I will have to find some in linen.....

Dissecting GAoP costume Part 4: Pirate Party
Patrick Hand replied to Gentleman of Fortune's topic in Captain Twill
Not GAOP..... but durring the California gold rush, they would have dances.... but there were very few women..... so the men would dance with each other.... (I'd guess there was some drinking going on also...... ) -
The only problem with the 1812 Overture...... IT NEEDS CANNONS........ LOTS OF CANNONS...... (note: I'm shouting, because I still have it turned up really LOUD...... )
-
Tchaikovsky.....Really LOUD (my neighbors must love me.......) Marche Slave.... then Swan Lake: Final Scene... which leads nicely into the 1812 Overture.....
-
The group that I play with, participated in a pirate thiemed fund raising event last Saturday.... I decided to wear my more period Buccaneer stuff, (figured I could explain period vs. modern concept)..... Didn't work that way..... I think "they" and I would have had more fun, if I wore my play pyrate stuff..... There are times when "aaaargh" is more appriot.... OH well.... next time.....
-
Aaaaargh..... this weeks supply O' rum just arrived..... who wants to help me roll alla these barrels up ta th' bar ? Hummm... ya know... it might be eaiser iffin we drink some of it first....... just to lighten th' barrels a bit.....
-
Gentleman of Fortune.... Where did you find the justicorp pattern that is on your web page ? and do you know when it was originaly printed ? I used the breeches pattern shown, but widened the legs into trowsers, worked great..... (I've discussed the baggy butt elsewhere...) Anyone thinking of making a pyrate coat, vest or breeches should check his page out.... great stuff....
-
Not sure if this is what you were asking for..... Somehow selling reproductions of anything too complex, would only have limited consumers..... (it would be cool, but could you sell enough to make any money at it...? ) BUT what I think would be great is something like the "Mountainman Sketchbooks" or "Sketchbook 76" detailed diagrams, and information on the artifacts. casual tourist could buy the book to look at the pirate stuff, and reenactors could use the book as a reference to make thier own stuff, that is authentic.

When I first started playing D&D, the rules were three small booklets, and you had to buy the suppliments.... Chainmail, Greyhawk and the other one..... I still have them someplace.... Wonder what First editions of roleplaying games sell for these days ? Dang.... all the rules I have are old.........
