  1. Just for the sake of accuracy... Gwenth Paltrow isn't in Stardust, so of course her role was dissappointing. Also the setting of the story is England, slightly south of London, written by an englishman, so it makes sense that the characters would be speaking with an English accent, they do in the book. It comes across through the turn and choice of words.
  2. Several of us went off on a tanget about costuming apporpriate to Ottoman empire, Barbary Coast and generally middle eastern pirates. Lets move from tanget to full fledged thread. I'm going to copy and paste the pertinent information from the other thread so no body need repeat themselves. Duchess Michaelsbagly
  3. Being a pirate belly dancer and all.... I'm actually working on a period appropriate Turkish (well Ottoman I suppose) costume. I was discussing several months ago how I've no real interest in dressing GaoP correctly as a woman and making me look like a man is bit difficult. So I started investigating other regional options. If any one as any suggestions about this style of costuming I'm open...
  4. I dunno BlackJohn. That looks pretty tough to beat on the coolness scale...
  5. No no! I want Patrick to have me again! He makes such wonderful things... I don't think you need to worry about making sure everyone is different. Just let it fall out as it would do.
  6. Count me in again.
  7. Just doin' me civic dooty........... Are you certain you don't mean "civic booty"?
  8. Nice BlackJohn. You've arrived at the crux of the topic!
  9. How did I miss these?! Well done.
  10. Well, it reminds me of Ed Wood. But it isn't quite the right progression..
  11. Yep thats the one. The quote comes after he finds out its Tang's savings his brothers friends have been slipping him. The star guy is actually a semi-pro pool player, I've heard. And they didn't cg any of the shots.
  12. Well its kind of a Snatch-like movie. Here is a hint. Christopher Walken is in it.
  13. I knew it was post coital, the whole scene was right there in my mind. It was just sans the big picture name. Until Morgan Freeman... Not Harlem Nights.
  14. Lucky number slevin. Morgan Freeman was a good hint
  15. Oh crap. I just saw that movie recently but the name is escaping me...
  16. Actually what Pat needs is someone to follow him around all the time and document all of his cool projects...
  17. Didn't we do this one? or did we just discuss this one? The inevitable melding of typversations...
  18. Well, it brings two movies to mind for me. The most recent Indiana Jones, and Spaceballs. But I've a feeling neither are correct.
  19. Well, I'm not historical, but I am in Wisconsin.
  20. Hear, hear! (Connery is the consummate actor - whatever movie he appears in, you can almost assuredly depend on him. (Although Zardoz...well, it takes a certain fortitude on behalf of the viewer to view.)) Oh my. How did I ever miss that one?
  21. The plot is the same, though some minor characters are missing and other minor characters became some what major. However all the changes were worked in by Mr. Gaiman himself so they fit just as well as the originals did. Well worth the seeing.
  22. I'm going to chime in as a person who isn't much for borrowing things of any variety (nor of lending them). Proper footwear is often quite expensive and beyond the means of most people to make themselves. Thus it wouldn't be on my list of required basics. The same goes for proper stays. I'm not suggesting that these articles be scrapped completely however. Could we perhaps get some suggestions about how to approximate the look? What can be used instead of proper shoes? I think there was a mention of certain styles of payless shoes working, or is it acceptable to wear the skirts longer and thus hide the lack of proper shoes? What about stays? Would a bodice, mostly covered work? What about a corset covered up? The cardboard suggestion was great along these lines so more like that would be quite helpful.
  23. The book is written that way as well. Although there are some large changes from the book the movie is wonderful. The changes all fit the story and it is well played by the actors. It is a good thing when a flexible author is involved in making the movie!
  24. Take it away Jill!
