And as far as the 'never been on' s, we are gonna change a bunch o' those lubbers this weekend. Pyrate BBQ Sail on the Royaliste, S.F. Bay, anchored in a lee of Angel Island....somewhere ....RRRRRR! grillin', chillin', swillin',...thrillin'!

  9. :huh:Ahhh, T.I. Today's Treasure Island trivia: who played Silver in the 1918 version????
  10. No pissin' match, I float, it don't. end of story :)
  11. HMMMMM! Methinks them must be a lotta merchant superstitions, as the biblical stuff wouldn't matter as we be talkin' pyrates. Ya know? The 'rape, pillage, plunder' kinda folk!
  12. Confused, how what affected them. The Anniversary? The Purchase? What? Life was good for them before the British arrived, as both Brits and U.S. wanted favors. Brits offered more Jean and Pierre wanted U.S, loyalty. U.S. rather harsh. Not in contention is the fact that without Lafitte's cannoneers, we'd be doing tea,not coffee, as some of the Baratarians were with Napoleon as gunners.
  13. WEll, I didn't read it, but from William's post, I'm in agreement with him, boarding axes for clearing rigging and opponents, and why 'n the heck do ya think we call the other ones 'rifles'? whoever thought muskets were rifled is full o' tar!
  14. I've been on Wooden Boat Magazine's forum for years. Current and past stuff in the archives: http://media5.hypernet.com/cgi-bin/UBB/ultimatebb.cgi That's a great spot, starting or finishing. Also,: http://www.shipsofwood.com/ This site is integral to most newer, large wooden ships being built, as they are the major supplier of large timbers, and Spunflex, the current favorit of replica ships for cordage. :)
  15. Ain't a pickle,ain't a cucumber, An I'm always glad ta see ya'll!!
  16. Man, you have a lot of shipwrights handy. I'm considerably smaller, and my keel was laid in 1968, hit the 'ways' in 1971. Built by Arthur Theriault& Sons, very reputable Nova Scotian shipbuilders. I envy that much talent in one place to pull that off.
  17. Ahoy! and welcome aboard. You've answered most of your own questions, but here be some skinney: As far as most ship functions, excluding large warships with 800 crew, such as the H.M.S. Victory, but closer to the 30-50 man pyrate vessel, the next most important would be the Bos'n's mate, as he would take the orders from the first two, and relay them to the crew as far as operation of the ship went. All positions had 'descending' ranks, 2nd, 3rd, etc. But first 'everythings' were the honchos. Youngsters were quite often born at sea, so positions relevant to youth were started at all ages, sexes, dress codes. I weren't there, but, I would suppose greetings were as long as dictated by whom ye were jawin' with. Another pyrate or crew, 'I'm so and so. Stranger, the 'long' version.Cheers :)
  18. Ahoy, there mates. I figure a spot is needed to talk about wooden ships, a key ingredient for a pirates life. Facts, myths, experienced or not. But skip the fiberglass, ferrocement, composite, or metal imitations. Quite a few other threads will weave thru this, properly done. Buildin', sailin', terminology, and jargon all will work here. Comments???
  19. Aw, might sail a bit, but , after soooo much fun at sea yesterday, A good scrubbing might be more in order. DIdn't clean the cannons, or neaten up most sheets 'n halliards. A cold beer and watchin' the America's cup series from the poopdeck.
  20. Well, since ye wanna play, after you take your Lithium, tell me more about your vessel that is already faster and badder, although a 'never hit the water' fantasy at this point. And a bit 'bout yerself. My name's me name, don't want a fake one. I also sail a 38' Herreshoff ketch, 'Orca', documented vessel, ALaskan cedar over oak, carvel planked. A Southern California offshore boat for most of her life, but now slipped in front of the Royaliste. I'm sorta a beginner meself, with only around 20-30K sea miles at this point to my credit. If your fantasy floats, we'll be more than happy to oblige you outside the 'Gate for a full exchange of powder. Now, lets have some tangeable facts on your vessel and yourself. P.S. There be no 'i' in barnacle, mate.
