  1. Reason I asked was because I AM a lefty, so that information may come in very handy in the future. I've learned to shoot right-handed rifles left-handed, but I'll take warning with the flintlocks.
  2. That leads to another question...is the flash on the right side of the stock, then? Would a left-hander be more, less, or equally likely to have trouble with this?
  3. The version without ear pieces; were they held up to the face, or did they pinch onto the nose?
  4. Good idea, I've been seeing a lot of those lately.
  5. I've shot percussion, but sadly never flint; am I correct in presuming the reason for looking away was to avoid a flash in the face?
  6. I vote snuff; at first glance he does appear to be holding a cigarette, but not when I look closer. That or maybe he's stroking an imaginary mustache.
  7. Hmm, I may have to start carrying a couple myself. They could come in handy.
  8. Once again, I'm the ignorant one among smart people, but I've never heard of a fid in my life...and I'm wondering how they're used.
  9. I guess I'm a dyed-in-the-wool farm girl--first thing I noticed was the pigs running in the street, and wondered why no one was tripping over them.
  10. How long does turtle wax hold up with actual use, then--such as, on fencing rapiers?
  11. One of my favorites, as sung by Wylde Nept: John Kanakanaka I thought I heard the old man say (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay Today, today is a holiday (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay Too ri ay, oh too ri ay, John Kanakanaka too ri ay There’s work tomorrow but no work today (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay For today, today is a holiday (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay Too ri ay, oh too ri ay, John Kanakanaka too ri ay Growl you may but go you must (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay If you growl too loud your head they’ll bust (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay Today, today is a holiday John Kanakanaka too ri ay Too ri ay, oh too ri ay, John Kanakanaka too ri ay Around Cape Horn our ship must go (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay Around Cape Horn through the ice and snow (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay Today, today is a holiday John Kanakanaka too ri ay Too ri ay, oh too ri ay, John Kanakanaka too ri ay My dear old mum she wrote to me (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay Oh son, my son come home from sea (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay Today, today is a holiday John Kanakanaka too ri ay Too ri ay, oh too ri ay, John Kanakanaka too ri ay Now one more pull and then belay (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay For today, today is a holiday (pull) John Kanakanaka too ri ay Today, today is a holiday John Kanakanaka too ri ay Too ri ay, oh too ri ay, John Kanakanaka too ri ay
  12. I've been attempting to teach myself guitar for the last couple years--it would work better if I didn't put it down for months at a time...I can play about 5 songs on the piano, only one of them more complicated than "beginner." I'm best at singing--at least, I must not be too bad, because people don't cover their ears and beg me to stop.
  13. I still have an obsession with The Man From Snowy River because of my obsession with horses and Australian accents. Yeah, I think you're right Mission, it does sound better that way. I think one of those "to's" shouldn't have been there anyway, I was quoting from (a flawed) memory.
  14. Aye yi yai!!!! That much for a concert ticket? Buy the gun barrel, it'll last ya longer. And they're more fun. Jabberwocky, by the way, is a most excellent poem.
  15. I bet nobody's seen the movie this one's from: "Gentlemen! May I propose a toast? To our two romantics: to one who sees what is, and to one who sees what can be; Lord grant that the two are compatible."
  16. Humble little me has no valuable historical knowledge to add, but I just wanted to say, I'm really impressed with how you've put everything together, and I only hope that one of these days when I begin the process myself that I can do half so well! Keep updating, I'd love to know how it all turns out!
  17. *sigh* This is why one can never begin studying an archaeological site with any strong preconceived notions about it's identity unless you've got some danged good evidence. If you start out thinking that it's the QAR, then you will try to make any evidence you find fit that notion, rather than be objective about it and say it could be any of a number of ships. Not to mention the many disapointed people if it's not what they've made us think it is!
  18. If you drool so much over "pretties" (knives, flintlocks, etc.) that you have to wipe them off so they don't rust.
  19. It's snowing, so thinking of that makes me happy, but then I'm kinda dreading having to go back to doing my computers homework. That's the thing about having to do your homework on the computer, it's easy to get distracted. Get better, all y'all who are sick!
  20. Listening to the hum of computers in the computer lab. Wishing I was listening to Bryan Adams cd.
  21. That's an interesting article, but they've really no reason to assume they were sailors just because they had earrings. Weren't they in style in the early 1600's? I wonder if they had any other evidence to show they were sailors.
  22. I refuse to wear bodices, sorry men.
  23. Mmm, I'm with you ladies! Men do look great in garb! I go to reenactments just to gaze, if nothing else! Be it pirate, fur trade, Revolutionary war, medieval, you name it, it looks good on them.
  24. Earlier, Foxe, you mentioned mariner's cuffs in a picture you'd posted: what's the difference between mariner's cuffs, and cuffs that, well, aren't mariner's?
