  1. We all seem to have a slew of favorite movies... so here's a challenge... Name just your top 5. As if these 5 were the only movies you could watch for the next year. Only 5....
  2. HarborMaster, that's my favorite as well! I own two versions, that one, and one "americanized" shorter version. the French is MUCH better, and follows the book more closely, I'm told (shame on me for not reading it myself, yet)
  3. Wow, they look delicious, it's hard to choose... You know, ...chocolate is an aphrodisiac... I'm swooning
  4. to lead them on plentiful plundering paths of purpose....
  5. You know, it's just too hard to pick a fave. As the lists keep getting posted, I see more and more movies I love, but just haven't thought about in a while! Which version of Count of Monte Cristo do you like, HarborMaster?
  6. walks into TK, and eyes the special of the day.... Looks delicious! I'll be havin' the special myself, and a rum and coke... what's for dessert? something chocolate, yes? (So sorry about your kitty, William. I know how you feel.) MW, I hope you got your headaches straightened out. My biggest headache this time of year, is the dreaded taxes of course, but I got that taken care of last month.... (big sigh of relief)
  7. What of Calico Jack? Wasn't he called so, because of his colorful striped clothing?
  8. Ok, I know him! He's also the guy who gives James the alligator tongues in James and the Giant Peach. I knew if I saw him, I'd recognize him. There are many actors who are just character actors whom I don't know their names, but their faces are so recognizable... Shawn Wallace is one, as is the guy who played Newman in Seinfeld, (he will be forever known as Newman in my head, I think his name is Dwight something??? not sure.)
  9. How about the Bourne Identity. Yep. I just watched it and I really liked the romantic aspect of it. Captain Blood... Errol Flynn... uber swashbuckler

    Goonies!

I was wondering the same thing. :)
  11. Indeed, and Val Kilmer, who played Jim in the movie, and looked so so so much like him, shore is purty too. *another sigh* Patrick Hand, congrats on the DSL! I'm jealous, as I'm sitting here with my 56K modem, which never logs on at 56K... right now it's.... let me check... 49.2... totally sux. btw, what kind of bedtime stories do ye like?
  12. I'm with you on that one, Joshua Red, althought I don't know who Peter P. is really. (probably would if I saw him, but the name doesn't ring a bell) But anything dark and noir I also like a lot! Loved Gary Oldman as Dracula. Patrick Hand, The Addams Family movies with Raul Julia are my faves! I loved the series on tv when I was a kid, but Raul Julia as Gomez just made my day! Now, I like Tim Curry too, and quite a lot, but he didn't do "it" for me like Raul did in the role of Gomez.... perhaps I've said too much LOL! Anyhow, thanks for reminding me of those movies!
  13. Capt. Grey, y'all look adorable! And I have to mention... I'm a Tim Burton fan too. I love Nightmare Before Christmas, it's a halloween through Christmas classic in my house! Christine, I just watched Ever After the other night with my daughter (before that we saw A Cinderella Story with Hillary Duff, and I told her about this movie and how much better it was... still is. I love it. I've always liked Drew Barrymore as well, she's really great in 50 First Dates! And thanks for reminding me of Labyrinth, I've not seen that one in a long long time, and I love David Bowie in it. Which reminds me for some odd reason of another of my family's faves... The Dark Crystal. I need to get those on DVD.
  14. Yes, I think I understand, Mission. I was just surprised is all. :) I remember seeing the first Star Wars at the theater when I was 13, and I thought it was the best movie in the world at the time. I wanted to be just like Princess Leah, of course, and catch the adorable eye of Han Solo! but now, it's like other movies I remember loving in my youth, that aren't just as fabulous as I thought they were, but don't get me wrong, I still love the Star Wars movies, all of them. And I liked the Phantom Menace a lot. Clone Wars is quite lacking. the Matrix is another where the sequels were disappointing. The first movie was great, but they only got worse and the last was pathetic, they went so far off the original theme... to resque the human race from the machines and being batteries, to saving only Zion and a single fight between Neo and Mr. Smith. I was so disappointed. Oh, and I had to add Chocolat to my list above (Thank you CaptainCiaran for the reminder, I can't believe I left if off my list.)
  15. How about What Women Want? funny romantic comedy and Troy (again, men love the action, women like seeing Brad naked, not to mention all those cute guys in leather skirts  )
  16. Hi Mission! You didn't list Star Wars?!? Well, let's see, here's a few of my favorites in no particular order: O Brother, Where Art Thou? ("A woman is the most fiendish instrument of torture ever devised to bedevil the days of man." Ulysses Everett McGill) The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (love the Dorian Gray character... "Who are you?" ... "I'm complicated.") Dracula (with Gary Oldman) Treasure Planet (love the John Rzeznik song, "I'm Still Here") Monsters, Inc. Stargate (with Kurt Russell) Tombstone (love Val Kilmer as Doc Holliday, my fave!) Troy (the fight scenes rock! fave is between Hector and Achilles) The Three Muskateers (got my copy straight from the King of America himself! ... Porthos the Pirate is my fave!) Benny and Joon The Fifth Element Chocolate possibly my favorite movie in which to look at Johnny Depp LOL! The Lord of the Rings movies (didn't follow the books exactly, but still, very good.) Lilo and Stitch
  17. Interesting....! I imagine that would be loads of fun, unfortunately, Oregon is SO far away.
  18. thanks, dasNdanger, I didn't know that about Johnny Depp, and I thought I knew a lot! I have listened to the commentary on the dvd, and knew that he was at odds with the director at the time. I like it when he says something about killing the writers for that bloody hard line he says, and messed up on numerous times, perhaps that just got to him. thanks! And I am a BIG Johnny Depp fan, but I don't have the dolls, I don't think my husband would be too keen on me playing with one and I'm with Christine, I'd rather have the real thing to play with anyhow!

    Goonies!

Burt Lancaster? You mean Clark Gable? Although Burt was quite fun to watch in the Crimson Pirate! Love those striped pants! Why not? Did ya have a bit of bad luck before, Lady Barbossa? I used to be scared to order stuff online, but now, I do it all the time. Well, not all the time, but often. :)
  20. So do my kids and I! Ah, methinks it be a dream When my kids awakened me by scream But I look around and see They are running with glee Along the ocean shore, having fun, extreme. I really really need a tropical vacation. I mean really.
  21. Wow, I'm impressed at the model builders here. I found a beautiful Spanish Galleon ship, all wood, that someday I'd love to assemble, but I haven't bought it yet, it's awfully expensive. Maybe someday, as I want a nice sailing ship for the top of my entertainment center. As for starting stuff and not finishing them... We've been adding onto our house for 2 years now! Mission, ok, so the snowplow thing is unfinished, but the dinosaur turned out great!!! Hey, that's model building too, aye? And now a question... is there an explaination anywhere for the green banana?

    Goonies!

OK, OK! I'll put it in my rental que (online dvd rentals, it is on dvd, yes?) And I think I have seen the Maltese Falcon, many, many years ago. But... speaking of old classic movies, I have to say that Captain Blood is one of my favorites. Perhaps not the caliber of classic of Casablanca, (say that 3 times fast) but one of my faves, nonetheless.
  23. I'm currently reading Inkheart by Cornelia Funke. The last few books I've read are: The Lord Thief by Cornelia Funke Eragon by Chriopher Paolini, The Prophecy of the Stones by Flavia Bujor, Raising Dragons by Bryan Davis, The Candlestone also by Bryan Davis, Peter and the Starcatchers by Barry and Pearson, The Scorpion House by Nancy Farmer, and that was just in January. Books I recommend... some classics, Dracula and Frankenstein, neither are like their popular movies. And The Lord of the Rings, of course. Some of my favorite books are by R.A. Salvatore, all about his character, the dark elf, Drizzt Do'Urden.
  24. I love all my kids through and through They're the reason I do what I do. Putting off my own dreams, But sometimes it seems My dreams are already coming true. I have a precious girl who is 4, And a fine son who is 9 1/2 years more. A sweet boy who is 8, And a girl, 10, who's great. What more could a mother ask for? The tropics, this piratemom dreams about One of these days she'll venture out And when she gets there, She'll let down her hair And soak in the sun, without a doubt.
