however the other lines used only went in sporadic areas and never all the way across any item of clothing where the ones on the stocking on the upper figure do cross the entire leg ...why couldn't they be striped???

Just got off the phone with Salty; glad you're alright lad ...yes vehicles can always be replaced but husbands and good friends are another matter. The heavens must have been smiling on you lad since you got to walk away from it... yes keep a eye out for those hidden signs of injury that will take a day or so to appear, and don't try the tough guy BS and just shrug it off ....I know, ten years on and I'm still walking with a stick from a slip on an icy sidewalk. Take care ....and Kate, Strap him down if he shows signs of whiplash and don't let him ignore it!!! Slainte we'll see you soon!!!

Congratulations Lad!!! (talking to the baby) Sorry you couldn't pick who your father was going to be ....you'll have an uphill time of it lad, trying to live down your father's reputation ...he will embarrass you at every opportunity ....so just be ready for it
-
You're right about the mark up, lad ....I make just enough to pay for me to come to events with my vendor fees and insurance and travel expenses ....but I'm only buying a few thousand dollars worth at a time not a full container worth of guns or swords...I'll tell you for me it was about seeing some quality period weapons for sale at events and not just Chinese stainless swords and mock guns ....most of the dealers want to remain competitive so they watch what the others are charging and remain in the ballpark ....but remember that international shipping applies when buying from Canada or shipping to...

The video is excellent whatever it's titled ....even if made as a lost leader bid to attempt better forms of advertising than those that have been done in the past ..wouldn't want to see you get sued for trade-name infringement for trying to increase the attendance of the events

Then perhaps we should change the name of the thread to "Fort Zachary Taylor Pirate Fest" and let Julie do her own promotion

I usually use the scotch-brite pads on the metal parts and fine 0000 steel wool for the wood stocks ans then tack cloth and boiled linseed and black walnut husks for the stock and then lemon oil and furniture wax twice a year after that ...and a modest coating of gun oil on the steel bits at all times

There seems to be a lot of folks looking to become first timers in this hobby not just for PIP ....these threads could be useful to any who'd like to become active and a bit more comprehensive in their approach to getting their "kit" together whether it is Period correct attire or weapons or their camping needs... First off I usually recommend that you do a bit of homework before you spend hard earned and often elusive $$$$$ good kit costs a bit more for good fabric and styles than cheap costume "polywood" stuff but it wears better and is more comfortable and the sewing isn't brain surgery. The simple application of needle and thread to mostly straight seams can seem daunting but dive in and you might find it can be fun and addicting (cheaper than a night out) and longer lasting ....unless you pick up something you can't get rid of A lot of my linen shirts are 4-5 years old and the price of linen can be as inexpensive as $5-6 a yard and it takes about 3-4 yards for a shirt depending on the width. The cost of buttons can seem expensive at first but if you figure it's about $2-3 worth per shirt that can mean a good hand made shirt for under $25 .....just for starters There are lots of folks on the pub who are more than willing to help with suggestions and even patterns, etc. some simple posts need to be linked in a category of basics (and let the debating of the best shoes, etc. in their seperate threads) .....perhaps in a seperate category of "getting started" just a thought in my humble opinion

Also found this three barreled one- still not finding that woodcut version
-
Somewhere in my files I have a woodcut picture of an early European weapon that had six(?) barrels and a pole that was held under the arm and fired using a slowmatch fuse, used in the 1400's I believe, prior to the introduction of the matchlock musket. So this indeed could have been a relative of one of those guns. da'Vinci's version
