Welcome back lad!!! The Pub has changed hands; believe it or not Stynky is now the proud proprietor. It totally crashed last year and disappeared for awhile ....this is the reincarnation of the ol' Pub; with some changes in navigation you will have to experiment with the in's & out's ....Glad to hear about the course life has set for you, I m'self am a proud da' again, finished going back to university for yet another degree, this time as a teacher. Good to see you back in the pub lad you've been missed!

Depending on several things determines how I cook meat at events 1) What meat? beef, pork, lamb or mutton, fowl or fish 2) How many am I feeding? 3) Type of fire I get to use? Grilling or roasting on a spit are my personal favourites ....a nice sirloin roast marinated in Burgundy /knife pierced with slivers of shallot and garlic inserted into the flesh rubbed with sea salt and fresh ground black pepper served with garlic mashed potatoes and beets w/ balsamic vinegar that works fine for up to about 10 folks A good smoked ham soaked in cyder then hung on a chain and slow roasted served with steamed buttered turnips and a coarse applesauce and fresh green salad with fresh baked soda bread usually for more folks I resort to Stews or good hearty soups http://www.outdoorcook.com/article1053.php -about planking fish or fowl

Aye Constance but "embellishing the camp" just by the efforts of you and Silas is a lot of hard labour at least on your part the kids usually take to it when you show them the paintings of the time period and tell them they get to play dress up

Jack, welcome aboard lad! Hope all is safe and secure at the "shipyard" ....Will we being seeing you in Hampton? I've got a flagon of rum with your name on it!!!

If folks need powder for Hampton or beyond let me know I have no problem picking it up. My local shops always seem to have quite a stockpile of it ...just checked the other day and it has gone up recently for $22 per pound. I have 5 pounds of ffffg and 8 of fffg and 8+ of ffg .....I may order form TotW m'self to stockpile a bit extra

Case lots are 25 lbs. and if you're going to do that it is best to go to someplace like Track o' the Wolf (right now they are under $15 per lb. in case lots mix or match grain size). Home storage would include up to two case lots (50 lbs.) in a locked spark proof container; without having a separate powder magazine on your property at least 200 ft. from habitable structures.

there were several different flintlock makers during the the 1930's, late 40's & 50's one being Hy Hunter who used stainless for a lot of his parts ....these pieces were made fast and cheap for the film industry and open market too if your piece isn't rusting in the Keys and is stamped Germany my "guess" would be that perhaps you scored some of these parts (some of Hy's guns were assembled here in the states to avoid the Germany stamping)....just a hunch without further inspection and metallurgical tests.

Sanded well with 2 coats of sanding sealer and three coats of good quality exterior matte black enamel w/400 grit in between coats and it should look like a good quality iron gun accented with a small amount of "rub-n-buff" silver

A lot of infants clothes were also made from wool flannel for cold weather wear and also would have worn the linen shifts underneath them ...and yes they were pretty damned resourceful ...and frugal

But a Saturday/Sunday event in September is fine with me Since even if teaching full-time I'd be able to leave Friday night and get there by midnight and ready to go first thing in the morn and able to drive home Sunday evening

That's the sort of kit we have for Hamish + a cap to keep the sun off his head Since in period both boys and girls dressed in unisex attire ...Mr. Roberts we figured perhaps we'll try to let the children play with each other if they'd like and you and Brig approve. We are also making the lad a few pairs of slops and shirts as well.

Those little parklettes are lit up like daylight with at least a dozen lamp posts surrounding them all night long with lots of speeding traffic 20 feet from your beds. I would suggest moving the magazine closer to the marina instead of the street ...consider roping off some of the access paths to secure the camp. The end of the ground closest to the hotel is the most open for public access keeping the hide to that end makes the most sense with the remaining fly used for crew shade and food prep ....just suggestions

Hanging Tankard without offense?
callenish gunner replied to Ivan Henry aka Moose's topic in Captain Twill
Having a slightly different experience than Sterling; While at home on the Isle of Lewis our local does have some pint "jars" available virtually everyone old enough to frequent the Pub (Three Black Gulls) has their own pewter or glass/ceramic tankard hanging on a peg inside the bar and the barman is clever enough to grab yours and have the pump in hand by the time you cross from the door to the bar. Mine is still there with a bit of dust since I don't get home too often, but last time I went I had to wait to have it rinsed out and had to tell the 23 year old barmaid who I was so she knew where to reach for it. My Stout was served in m' own mug passed on to me by my Great grandfather. While at most events I try to keep my mug full of water at all times during the day, once the touristas leave, the contents will change to a more "enlightened beverage" -
????? first time I've seen a thread start with being put on hold

Aye Jacky there's the ticket ...Blackthorn next time you decide to do the drunken sword fight theme, take the time to dress like a ninja let their group of hobbyist take the hit for your stupid actions ....we've already got our hands full with those bloody Somalis
