I fell asleep standing in the chow line when I was in boot camp. I've nodded of on buses, trains, planes, and even in the car. Gotta love them rumble strips on the side of the roads. Let's see it's 2240 Wednesday, I got up for work at 0600 on Tuesday so that means... hmmm...carry the one....I've been up for 40 hours and 40 minutes.... oh joy. Just think, I get to do it all over again tomorrow.

Are ya tryin to give me a coronary?

Absolutely, When I was working overnights, I was "supposed" to be sleeping during the day, but rarely did.

Aye William Lad, welcome to the darkness...

I firmly believe that I'm allergic to morning. I get up in the morning and sneeze my fool head off. I rarely sneeze at night... strange, really

Wowsers.... I want that. Too bad it "The Toy Soldier Company" they tend to be a bit pricey. For that money I could buiy 700 Wargame pyrates and build my own ships.

I think I set a record... spent the weekend at a wargame convention. I spent nearly 24 hours straight pushing my little tin soldiers around a table. Started around noon on Friday and finally broke at about 10 Saturday morning. Took a nap for a couple hours, hit the vendor room (spent way too much money) went at it til around midnite Saturday. Got a few hours sleep. A quick game this morning and then 4 hours home. Came back to 15 inches of snow. Thankfully, my neighbor plowed me out. Gotta make sure he gets a case of beer this week. Now for a nap.

I have a good friend who raises and slaughters his own Black Angus every year. He's always kind enough to send a few steaks my way. Make mine fire grilled over hardwood or mesquite. Then sautee' some mushrooms and onion and serve with a little horseradish on the side. I'll have a nice green salad and some fries with that please. Now I've gone and made myself hungry...

I pushed the envelope last night. Hit the hammock around 0100 and was up (unwillingly) at 0315. My primary cooking appliance crapped out last night. The broiler coil stayed on with the control knob in the "off" position. Didn't notice it until it set the smoke alarm off. The insulation in the oven started to smoke. No active fire, just a rather rude awakening. Couldn't get back to sleep after the adrenalin rush so I'm operating on two and a quarter hours sleep. Found out this morning the replacement parts for a repair were only 90 bucks cheaper than a whole new range. The new range will be delivered Friday. Meantime, the toaster oven and microwave will be gettin a workout.

I hadn't left the house since I got home from PT yesterday so I went in to town and got some Chinese food. A little chicken & broccoli and fried rice. Washed it down with a white chocolate Reese's egg and iced tea,

Yup, straight from the foil packet. No water no heat just artificial chocolately goodness caffeine and sugar. Not for the faint of heart.

The late night/early morning snack all comes down to proper planning. Get stuck having to EAT instant hot chocolate mix to get the sugar fix and you start maintaining "emergency rations". I keep a stash of sweet and salty snacks in an area of the house that requires a special trip so they don't end up as regular snacks. That way when the late night munchies set in, I don't have to resort to the hot chocolate mix again.

Coffee in the AM. I take my coffee like I take my women.... cold and bitter.... Then I switch to iced tea in the evenings.

I spent a lot of years on the overnight shift. We worked 12's. 8 PM to 8 AM. Three on four off; four on three off and so on. I worked Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and every other Saturday. Get up about 6 PM for breakfast. Lunch around 1 AM. Have a bit of a snack around 5 AM. In the showers at 7:30 AM. On the road home by 8 AM. Dinner around 9 AM in the sack by noon. Back at it at 6. Now it's 24 hour shifts. 24 on 72 off.

January 18 2014, Six years, 343 days to go. But who's counting? I figure to throw my badge and gear on the Chief's desk. I'll dump the contents of my locker into the dumpster. A little judicious placement of super glue in the appropriate locations. Then I'll flip a bird to City Hall on the way out of that cursed dung heap for the last time. After that, the entire little pile of refuse could slide into the river never to be seen again and I wouldn't shed a tear.
