North Buncombe student suspended for pirate attire North Buncombe student suspended for pirate attire by Jordan Schrader updated March 28, 2007 4:41 pm Read all 41 comments » e-mail this Print this Weaverville – When you’re a pirate, some dangers just come with the territory: scurvy, grog hangovers, a walk down the plank at sword point. But being kicked out of school for a day? Bryan Killian doesn’t think that’s a fair reaction to his decision to come to North Buncombe High School wearing an eye patch and an inflatable cutlass. Web Extras: Multimedia & Related Content North Buncombe High School student Bryan Killian talks about being suspension for wearing his pirate regalia to school. He feels that his freedom of religion and freedom of expression were violated. (2,688 KB) Pirate returns to school with eye patch in pocket The official Web site of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Advertisement The sophomore spent today at home after an administrator took issue with his accessories. Buncombe County Schools says the eye patch was disruptive to classroom instruction. The student’s refusal to take it off after four warnings led to discipline, district spokesman Stan Alleyne said. “I feel like my First Amendment was violated,” Killian, 16, said. “Freedom of religion and freedom of expression. That’s what I tried to do and I got shot down.” Freedom of religion? Yes, Killian says, his “pirate regalia” is part of his faith – the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. The parody religion, whose “Pastafarian” members worship a sentient, airborne clump of noodles and meatballs, originated in a letter to the Kansas school board urging them to add the religion to its plans to teach evolution and intelligent design side by side. Alleyne said the decision has nothing to do with religion. Beyond the Edge Pirate Party - Mesa, AZ
Black Hearted Pearl replied to captainleoblackheart's topic in March
The Pub is in Mesa! (Land of the Mormons.) No dancing ladies, only pirate wenches who would rather steal yer dubloons than dance for them. -
So let this die an early death and no longer post responses.

Oh, that is very nice plunder indeed and those be your colors. Glad you decided to be more practical. Now ye needs proper "pants" and give up the skirts.

new AZ pirate Network
Black Hearted Pearl replied to captainleoblackheart's topic in Arizona Corsairs
Aye, the videos there are quite unique. I will be checking to see if any of mine have been plundered (linked to). It's happened before and that person was quite surprised to find my video locked up on their myspace page. -
Seeing as you do get a kickback on this, I'm moving it to Plunder. If the mods there let you stay, so be it. But this is not Pirate Pop for fun, it's pirating for a kickback and fun.

Black pirate on a black horse? No, it should be a black pirate on a black pearl ship. -
^ 122° on June 26, 1990 in Phoenix, AZ. That was as high as the thermometer went at Sky Harbor Airport, so they stopped the planes from flying. I had just moved back to Phoenix from So Cal, but it's a dry heat. < We've already hit over 100° for this year. It's way too early for 100° weather. Skipped the AZ Ren Fest that weekend, but am planning on going for the last weekend on March 31. V Dance in the rain and hide from it?

^ A calico cat named Neera and two pembroke welsh corgi's named Lucy and Ricky, the latter we nicknamed "plank" so we could 'walk the plank'. < Arm swelled up again. Thinnking evil thoughts about my physical therapist; if she only knew. No therapy on weekends. Huzzah! V Out with lights with nitro or local so you can watch the surgery?

It appears me crew stole the spotlight on the local news, except for Capt. Blackheart (no relation). He's from the Corsairs. The pirates in the video are myself, Cutthroat Ruby aka Knotty Jenny, Jack2 aka Jade the Ripper and Capt. Jack Welch. Phoenix POTC Fan event news video

Moderator soapbox: I found this post attached to the 'Jack and Hector' thread and broke it off into it's own topic. Others think this might be spam. It's me that is asking you, my fellow members, is this spam or just someone new trying to connect with other pirates? Pardon the confusion.

Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End Trailer
Black Hearted Pearl replied to Christine's topic in Pyrate Pop
Well, it caught the cabin boys attention which isn't easy to do with all that sugar in their system. -
But Barbossa's laugh is sooo much better.

Aye, I made it to the Phoenix event with me arm in a splint. They had a fencing demonstration and me and me mate took up arms with an inpromptu stage combat exercise. At our event, they gave the same swag but had hidden treasure maps under certain seats in the event. Some of the patrons walked away with nicer swag such as Master Replica's Jack Sparrow Flintlock. I guess this is what we get for not having a representative from the film. Alas, I do believe it was a last minute event and overall I'd get it an "AYE" for effort.

Davey Jones? That was Barbossa. Arrre?
-
Shameless self promotion, you pirate.
-
Well, I made it to the Ultimate Fan Event in Phoenix. Never under-estimate a pirate looking for treasure. It was fun, it was exciting, it ran really late into the night. However, let us add a twist...Only ONE trailer. come now disney.

You know who we don't see? Davey Jones.

`Spider-Man' & `Pirates' show off on TV By SANDY COHEN, AP Entertainment Writer 2 hours, 47 minutes ago LOS ANGELES - Two of the summer's most anticipated movies signed on for small-screen appearances before their big-screen debuts. An exclusive preview of "Spider-Man 3" aired during NBC's "Heroes" this week. A commercial also invited Spidey fans to catch more than seven minutes of never-before-seen film footage on the NBC Web site. The trailer for "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End" will make its worldwide debut during the "Dancing with the Stars" season premiere on March 19 — and simultaneously on popular shows in 61 other countries. It's big-screen/small-screen synergy, said Mark Zoradi, president of Walt Disney Motion Picture Group, which will release "Pirates" in the United States on May 25. "Broadcasters were anxious to get the trailer because they knew it would be supportive of driving viewership to their particular shows," he said, adding that unveiling the trailer during popular programs will allow it to reach "in excess of 200 million people." "Dancing with the Stars" signed on instantly, he said. "They loved the idea because they know how popular `Pirates of the Caribbean' is," he said. "When we pitched the premiere of the trailer with the premiere of `Dancing with the Stars,' it just made sense to them." ABC, which airs "Dancing with the Stars," is owned by the Walt Disney Company. Matching a big-screen hero with his small-screen counterparts was "a natural," said Valerie Van Galder, president of marketing for the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, which will release "Spider-Man 3" domestically on May 4. "Spider-Man" and "Heroes" have similar themes, she said: ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances. Plus, she added, both the "Spider-Man" trailer and the "Heroes" episodes were "cliffhangers." "It was a happy confluence of events," she said. "We had the perfect footage and they had the perfect opportunity." Ted Frank, NBC's executive vice president of entertainment strategy and programs, called the partnership a "win-win." "Heroes" posted some of its highest ratings of the season this week, he said: "It's a combination of the fact we had a big `Heroes' episode we had been building for weeks and the fact we had a big `Spider-Man' preview." It's enough to make some people tune in just for the commercials. ___ On the Net: http://movies.yahoo.com
