  1. I have a freind, who like me is fairly obsessive about accuracy, and i've seen his pieces, and even bought one off him. he had a doglock blunderbuss (which is what i bought) a matchlock musket, and several regular flintlocks. Buccaneers, like any pirate, would steal what they had, also, they traded with the dutch, and French supply ships that came to Tortuga and Western Hispaniola for powder, shot, and other Europian goods, in exchange for hides and boucan grilled meat. as well as whatever england had to offer, when they went to Port Royale. And since they plundered the Spanish, they probably had access to miquete locks (don't quote me on the spelling though) Something I would advise, is to look for a 'fish tail' musket, I have only ever seen them mounted with plain flintlocks and matchlocks, but the fishtail was period accurate for the English Revolution and the decades afterwards, (the revolution took place only two decades before), and would not have been out of place in the hands of an english buccaneer. also, wheellocks, though proven to be unreliable, (as if any other gun of the period was more so) were still in use, wheelock pistols were fine, though with a wheelock, you also have the option of a medium length wheelock gun called an 'arquebuss' So I would say all in all, flintlocks, miquete locks, doglocks, snaphaunce, wheellocks, and matchlocks are are all not out of the question, but when you start to get into flintlocks, in the mid/late 1700s, you've gone too far simply because of the style. I myself, plan to get 2 gentleman's dueling pistols, with inlays and carving one a wheelock, the other either a flintlock, or miquete lock, as well as a fishtail musket
  2. On warships, you had a large detachment of crew, gunners marines etc, the hammocks would have to accomodate them all, and even if they were on the orlop deck, you'd want to stow them away, to clear a path for crew such as carpenters patching damage, powder monkeys fetching munitions, and wounded crew being carried into the sick bay.
  3. thanks but i have since made up my mind... I'll be using a third rate SOL... i portray 'Pirate legends' anyway, a good exaple of my portrayal, would be Pirtaes of the Caribbean, realistic, pretty historically accurate, but embellished with classic pirate lore. i also need to see Roman polanski's Pirates for research into what I'm looking for.
  4. AHOY LASS HAPPY HOLIDAYS!! the wait for me coat is enough to drive any gent mad as King George! BTW did you recieve that pocket of resources I sent you? I hope you find them helpful, and i'm sorry about the blurring on some of the scans... It was difficult to position the booklets properly...

  5. TRADGEDY HAS STRUCK!! I lost my flash drive, and with it all my work, so until i get a new one, my book, which was making a lot of EXCELENT progress, will be nonexistant. HOWEVER i made an offer of cameos to you so i plan to deliver!!! you have my word on that!!
  6. In all honesty, i was about to send you a message and ask you take a look at this because i feel i may have offended you in particular. thank you, you've eased my mind. yeah, actually I'm traviling for work right now, so a lot has changed with our group, but Put in bay is definatly a fest I've been meaning to go to thanks for the invite
  7. Having written this,http://pyracy.com/index.php?/topic/18977-an-apology-for-arrogance/page__hl__%2Bthe+%2Bdevil%26%2339%3Bs+%2Bbrood (Please Read)I hope you find it in your hearts to give this young lad a second chance now that i've had an eye opener, and am far humbler for it. that being said, i am welcoming new recruits to The Devil's Brood Pyrates with open arms, and a good deal more humility. We have gone through several changes in the past year and are still evolving please bear with me. if you are still interested in jioning, and have any questions, please message me here, also, our policies are not set in stone as of yet, so i can only share with you ideas proposed by our group's officers. We are a guild of crews spread over 2 1/2 states, and we'd be glad to welcome you.
  8. I would like to humbly apoligize to everyone i put off in my attempts to recruit people to The Devil's Brood Pyrates. I had a reality check with a gentleman with an axe last year at an event, and am making motions to being more humble, thankfully, those i know personally in Ohio have been forgiving and taken note of my efforts to change. But i still feel i owe some of you on Pyracy Pub the same curtousy. I came accross a facebook post that does not exactly look at me in too favorably a light so this additional eye opener tells me there is still some bad blood, and I would very much like to earn your forgiveness. I'd like to be welcomed into the Pirate Community, not thought of in a negative light. I will not attempt to justify my actions, as I know i was in the wrong on many things, and i know I came off as an arrogant little d***. So once again, i hope you can forgive me, and one day I might have the chance in a year to buy you a tankard of rum as friends.
  9. That's pretty accurate, although I wonder how many merchant and pirate ships would have bothered with a formal sick bay. probably not many, pirate ships had more crew than merchant ships, as you know, so room was probably scarce. they might've kept them in the same place as they operated on them, to keep them close to the surgeon, or even on deck under tents, then moved them below during battle if they were'nt yet recovered.
  10. FIRST CAMEO WRITTEN!! It belongs to my Friend Voodoo Jack, who takes part in a skirmish in the swamp with several giant aligaters. NOTE: I WANT TO REPRESENT YOUR CHARACTER FAITHFULLY, TO DO THIS I NEED ANSWERS TO MY QUESTIONS, I AM WORKING ON A RAID AT THE MOMENT.
  11. [ Some are from movies, and they range from the 1600s to the 1700s
  12. I just recalled seeing in a DK cross section book, that the sick bay, where wounded sailors were kept on HMS Victory was near the bow above the water line, where there was good ventalation, but the actual room where they operaated was the orlop deck Amidships, though i don't know how accurate that would be considering the book was probably written for children.
  13. From the album: Wardrobe Inspiration

from The Man in the Iron Mask, I loved his entire outfit in this scene and is exactly what I am looking for
  14. From the album: Wardrobe Inspiration

Hook's hat from the 2003 Peter Pan was very cool, and fairly accurate to the era I portray, though his crew, ship, outfits, etc were a medly
  15. From the album: Wardrobe Inspiration

I loved Louis' Outfits throughout the movie 'The Man in the Iron Mask', and they had a lot of other great ones too.
  16. From the album: Wardrobe Inspiration

I like the hat on the musketeer, though I'd add a LOT of feathers to mine.
  17. From the album: Wardrobe Inspiration

probably my favorite of the lot is the gentleman on the left
  18. From the album: Wardrobe Inspiration

    some ideas for Cloaks
  19. From the album: Wardrobe Inspiration

    a very interesting sleeve
  20. From the album: Wardrobe Inspiration

Nice hat, and outfit in all, though I'd have the coat have trim
  21. From the album: Projects and Concepts

Design for my Ultimate Pirate outfit for Greyhound combining my love of decorative Fleur de Li, and curly-cues in the trim. this would be 1670s style
  22. From the album: Projects and Concepts

A frock Coat I designed, partly inspired by a Peter pan Musical, where Hook had tassles on his coat cuffs, I enjoyed Hook's Tarrentella and Tango songs.
