I recently came accross a topic on the Pirates of the Burning Sea Forum, asking people about the timeline of their characters ingame... I had wanted to work out some of the things about Greyhound's story for a while... now that I figured it out and posted it there, as I will repost here.... what about you guys? ever work out your character life from beginning to end? please share! 1643- Born 'Gabriel Drummond' to a Scottish Nobleman 1660- Causes Scandel at the Royale Court of Charles II, Dispossessed and Sold into Slavery on Jamaica 1662- Escapes, attempts to return to Scotland and Family, but is captured by, and joins French Buccaneers in Windward Passage, three months later is made Captain, earns reputation for speed in battle Spring 1663-Sets out to Capture a 'Ship of Force' but is instead taken by the Spanish and Tourtured by the Inquisition at Havana. Summer 1663- After escaping Havana on the very galleon that captured him, and building a small fleet, he returns and sacks, and burns the port to the ground Fall 1663- Fights duel with the pirate L'Ollonais, earns reputation for speed in hand to hand combat, as precaution Spring 1664-Sails to attack South America, Storm blows them off course, and seeking 'Any Port in a Storm' land in Cartegena, they are mistaken for a 'Galleon Due in From Seville' Greyhound manages to load all the treasure bound for the king of Spain and sail off before they realize he is a buccaneer. Though he is chases by 3 Spanish Galleons...which he sinks, afterward, loses eye in duel with spanish Capitano Spring 1664-Co-founds Devil's Brood, plunders Spanish Treasure Fleet, lands and colonizes 'Islos de los Leon Del Mar' Summer 1664-Returns to Tortuga and Buys Plantation, takes 4 masted french galleon which he makes his new flagship also aquires a mystical ability to 'See That Which is Hidden From Mortal Eyes' from a voodoo priestess summer 1664-Sails out of Port Royale, developes rivalry with Henry Morgan 1667- Reluctantly sails with Morgan against Maraciabo, when Morgan and mates become trapped, Greyhound runs the Blockade in his flagship. 1668-Sails with Morgan against Portobello. 1671-Fights alongside Morgan at Panama 1672-Sails as Pirate out of Tortuga and hideout in Florida Keys when buccaneers become hunted men 1676- Fights pair of Lt Gov. Morgan's Pirate Hunters 1677-Sails for Madagascar 1682- Returns to Caribbean and fights off attack by 4 English Galleons 1683- Sails with de Graff and de Grammont against Vera Cruz 1684- Fights sea battle w Spanish off Hispaniola 1685-1689 Active around Madagascar 1689- Takes part in the sacking of Cartegena 1689-Retires to his Tortuga Plantation and builds smalltime smuggling ring 1694- returns to Royale Court of William III and meets Captain Kidd 1697-Returns to Tortuga 1705 dies of old age

We all fancy our Characters as being 'one of the best' and so in the era, ballads would be written about legends, like the 'Ballad of Captain Ward' 'The Ballad of Captain Kidd', and Blackbeard's Death Ballad. I figured anyone is entitled to one, so Why not write one for yourself? This is a Fictional Account of the first meeting, and subsiquent frienship/alliance between me and Blackjack Brimstone of the Devil's Brood Pyrates. I wrote the basic story, and Blackjack added some fleurishes and helped make sure his character was represented accuratly. In reality, we met at the Hampton Blackbeard Fest in 2010 Tale of the First Allaince by ~ Commodore Greyhound and Commodore Blckjack Brimstone of the Devil's Brood They said it was an alliance forged in the hells themselves and that even the locker feared to claim them, all that is truly known is that on that night a dark wind was blowing. A pact between two of the most contemptable pirates to ever set sail under the black flag. Some say, Old Roger had a hand in putting the two blackguards together. As they would later found the most cursed brotherhood of buccaneers on the seven seas. Not much is known about how the cord was struck. Brimstone Kept his secrets well, and Greyhound always said 'Dead men don't talk.' It was cold and dark when the fleet of the Seven Seas Blood Wolves and the ship of Greyhound pulled into Tortuga and anchored beneath Lavasseur's fortress. Greyhound, walked into the 'Yellow Tankard' tavern. He wore a Blood Red coat. It was from the uniform of a Spanish officer. And the entirety of it was covered in dried blood. As was his boots, pants and waistcoat. He spoke in his Highland Brogue in a loud voice. "I've a mind to take Havana and spill enough Spanish blood to stain the entirety of the Caribbean red. anyone who has a care for the plunder to be had is welcome to sign arcticles." he said. Now many a man had heard from the smugglers about 'El Senior Rojo' the Red Gentleman, who the Dons claimed escaped the great castle at Havana and swore revenge. but none put much stock in the tale that was told. Epecially now that 'El Senior Rojo' revealed himself and appeared to be naught but a fop with a taste for red clothes. All went back to their drinks, giving not a fig for what went on. Greyhound walked straight to a man who sat in the darkest corner of the room, surrounded by three companions and blanketed in shadows black as sin, and spoke. "And I'd wager even you won't join me? even though ye have a bloddy ship o' the line under your command eh laddie? That's a fine craft I saw you comin' ashore from." The man lit a cigar, which lit his face demonic mask up like hellfire and answered in a raspy voice "The Black tide serves her purpose... Why war Captain...?" "For what i suffered the the hands o' the Inquisition there'll be blood Says I. Come now mate, you be a buccaneer clear enough, i know the defenses in the harbor, i seen 'em first hand, come along, and ther'll be booty for all" Greyhound said "Hardly worth my time..." he says "I'll join you... if only to see it fail... and as you said... should you succeed... the bounty will be great..." Those two blackguards would come to unleash Hell upon the City of Havana and Return to Tortuga with a fortune in plunder, and they say, that was the birth of the Devil's Brood, the alliance, betwixt two ruthless rogues, which would go on to spawn an entire armada of Hellions who plundered the Seven Seas.

Tried it just for the heck of it. I got 'Red Sam Flint' "Passion is a big part of your life, which makes sense for a pirate. Like the rock flint, you're hard and sharp. But, also like flint, you're easily chipped, and sparky. Arr!"

Because of an infernal amount of Ill timing, luck and some procrastination and time wasting on my part I was unable to attend... I hope I will be able to get out there next year.

How expensive would it run for say a scabbard for a long john silver, I have a leather guy <-- wow that sounds wrong, lol but we're good buddies, and I get most of my stuff from him. There is an issue of Pirates Magazine, that discusses instruments that would have been used in the Great Age of Pyrates. It is a back issue however. The article also discusses what instruments that were used in the making of the Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End soundtarck that may have actually been in use during the time. But the Irish Bodhran was probably common, as there were many irish Pirates, a shanteyman on a merchant or Royal Navy ship could been a fiddler, so he would've been pressed into service if the pirates took a ship with one on board, and particularly wealthy passangers might've had servants who would accompany them to entertain them. My advice is, don't search for Pirate Musicians, search for instruments used in Europe at the time, they would have made their way on ships to the colonies, and into pirate hands.

Another good read, if your looking for a little bit of information on everything pirate, is The Pirate Dictionary by Terry Breverton. It takes you through phrases or things a pirate, privateer or sailor is likely to be familiar with. For anyone just starting out or looking to enrich themselves, I adds a laot of information, and I commonly use a phrase I found in the book. Not only that, it elaborates on how a lot of modern sayings have a nautical origin, which is greatly entertaining. I highly recomend it.
