Baldric buckles made by Gibbet
Dread Pyrate Greyhound replied to Gibbet Jones's topic in Crafting Kit
I've got a job and need to take care of some expenses first, but I've long had my eye on that English 6 by 4 1/4 buckle so I can have my leather guy make me a custom baldric. After this weekend, and next weekend, I should be able to enter into talks about it with money eith in my pocket or on its way. And you said money orders would work, correct? -

A very good one indeed! Hammer also put out another called Pirates of Blood River where Christopher Lee plays another pirate(with eyepatch and bandana, and a French accent). The plot's similar to The Devil-Ship Pirates I'm not sure it counts as a pirate flick, but I'd like to add Hook to the list. It got bashed by critics for completely deviating from the book, but still an enjoyable film. Dustin Hoffman did a great job as Captain Hook. I've also heard Christopher Lee was Blind Pew in the Charlton Heston Treaure Island, and as far as Hook goes, I recently got around to reading the Book, and as far as I could tell, everything was fairly accurate. Captain Hook was portrayed accuratly, Hook's 'good form' is a reacuring theme in both the book and movie, not to mention the detail of Hook's unique cigar holder which was also included in the movie, as well as some other things. Granted they took some Liberties with the Jolly Roger , which was supposed to be a brig not a galleon, but i agree, Hook was a very good movie. -
A couple of the tricks I have learned in keeping myself cool during a hot day at sea or on the town is instead of wearing your large heavy frock coat on your arms, is to drape it over your shoulders so you're not as tightly wraped, or thickly layered, and you're more ventalated and it will still give you the elegant touch that frock coats give to your persona. I promise. Just think of How Captain Hook looked in his second appearance in 'Hook' when he's in his cabin (the scene where he trys to kill himself). Another trick, is when buying new costume peices, ask wether or not they breathe as materials that breath make a world of difference. The next I've learned, is to open your waistcoat/ vest, and loosen the ties on your shirt, this sends the fresh air right against your skin. And finally, certain types of clothing are more ventalated than others, ei I have a pair of slops that I wear, and I know that the slightest breeze will go right up and cool me off, not to mention passing through my stockings. These are my tips, hoppe ye find 'em useful.

A while ago I took note that there are wikis for such piratical things as the One Piece Manga, Pirates of the Burning Sea and Pirates of the Caribbean Online MMORPGs as well as the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, but no Wikia for the subject of Pyracy itself, so I took it upon myself to start building a pirate wikia for all things piratical. Unfortunatly, I don't have the time or expertise to make the wikia everything I hoped it could be. I don't have enough computer savvy contributers as well. As a result, the wiki is only worked on when I have time to spare and reference materials at hand. I am therefore asking anyone who considers themselves a pirate scholar to contribute to the wiki. In this way, the Pirate Comunity will have a refference site for information regarding pirate lore, history, movies, fashion, and all things piratical under one domain. If you do contribute, please do not copy and paste from other reference sites or wikias as I want this site to be origonal but factual quoting is fine.

An update for everyone who wants to make a cameo.... I can make no promises you will be included, or if you are included what part you may play. Also, I am planning on making a series, so you may appear in one of the later installations. NOTE if there are female captains with an interest about a cameo, ask me about the 'Sisterhood of the Seven Seas' I may find a place for you there, as they play a major role in the second and fifth books. -

I could definatly use this, the good captain in the books is bound to sustain some injury of some kind along the way. so meeting with a healer after a huge battle to tend to the crew's wounds could do it, i try to work that in. -

thanks for the tip mate! -
Well this is a good point, but if this was Blackbeard's 'go to meetin' sword as John Maddox Roberts says, and if history is to be believed and he was cheating his crew out of their treasure by running the Queen Anne aground, I don't think Blackbeard would have bothered to grab a fancy dress sword before abandoning ship. He would've taken his working cutlass, and probably had all his pistols strapped to him, just in case his plan went awry. And as far as personal possessions go, he probably would've only bothered to take the nesecities, like navigational instruments, seacharts and his logbook.

Polanski's 'Pirates' seems to be a popular one, and the 'Treasure Island' with Charlton Heston seems to be talked about fairly favorably in the pirate community as well, both are actually on my list of pirate flicks to see, I'll probably be on the lookout for them since now I've seen 'Yellowbeard' with the Pythons, just tonight actually. -
ah, i do my pirate stuff more for enjoyment, try to be as accurate as possible, but I'm not heavy duty like SCA thanks though.

A quick tale for parrot loving folks
Dread Pyrate Greyhound replied to Jas. Hook's topic in Beyond Pyracy
I love that one! that's one of my three horrible parrot jokes i used to tell. try this on for size... There is a magician pirate who performs magic tricks to entertain his crew, since a pirate crew needs entertainment on a long ocean voyage. And since the crew members gets killed and new members sign on, he had a new audience every week. The only problem was, the captain parrot watched everey week and eventually caught on as to how the tricks were performed, and shouted out the secrets "Rawk! the doubloon is in his other hand! The ace is up his Sleeve! All the cards are the king of hearts!' And the poor magician pirate coulddo nothing because it was after all the captain's parrot spoiling his fun. Well one night, the helmsman was drunk on duty, run the ship aground and it sank, by some strange coincedence, the only survivers were the magician pirate and the captain's parrot clinging to the same peice of wood. After three days and three nights of glaring at each other without speaking, the pirrot finally says, "I give up, what have you done with the ship?" -

That's the first movie that came to mind when I saw the thread. The carriage chase with explosions was a little over the top but it was a fun movie with great sets and costumes. I remember thinking that Swashbuckler was ok when it came out but it didn't hold up very well. Never saw Swashbuckler, and i think they put that carraige chase in there mainly because chase scenes make for a good movie. That's the second thing 'Pirates of the Caribbean' will have barrowed from another pirate movie that I'm aware of. The first being the boat-walking in the first, the other a carraige chase in the new one.
