Fwiw, I've been "trying out" severe vitamin D deficiency to see what that is like. Kids, don't do this at home. Trust me on this one.

Of course, to really look the part, you are going to need an airship.

Yes, uniforms early in the period were similarly colorful. I have a whole book of WSS uniform details. There are some neat color combinations.

As long as the Sergeant didn't make you polish your bayonets in front of each other it shouldn't be much of an issue. Ho ho! For that, you get one of these.

Having lurked in Steamville for awhile... I'm not sure exactly how I would dress! They are an interesting bunch. I don't get the goggles fetish myself, so I'd probably not wear goggles, just out of spite, to be different, original, etc. Also, I'd go all-natural. No, not that way. I mean I wouldn't bother making stuff out of plastic. Example - using Nerf guns as a basis for something you want to look mean and nasty just doesn't work in my mind. I would definitely go with a huge pair of boots, the more outlandish the better. If I was just making a kit from what I have laying around... for weapons... rapier and Rogers and Spencer pistol. I might take the cylinder out of the pistol and replace it with something gadgety looking. Boots... I have a pair of black telephone lineman boots that lace all the way up to the knees. I usually wear them laced to the ankles, so they flair out at the top and look kind of buckety. Hat... the old WWII flight cap would work in a pinch. Pants... modern day greenish-brownish jeans I suppose, though I could wear my Old West pants. Yeah... I think I'd go with the Old West pants, which are a chocolate-brown corduroy. If I had a leather bib-front jacket like the Rocketeer wears, I'd go with that, but since I don't... out of the stuff I have sitting around... I'd wear my WWII British rope shirt and over that... an Ike jacket? And my grubby old fingerless gloves. Then I'd look at myself in the mirror, say I look ridiculous, and take the whole thing off. (Though... Halloween is coming up. Maybe I've just found myself a Halloween costume?!?!?!)

While serving in the Royal Artillery I was at one point held as a prisoner of war in an American fort on the frontier. We were given the honors of war and were allowed to keep our bayonets. My sergeant made a point on maintaining military discipline, which included continually polishing the brass on the bayonet scabbards with ashes, water, and elbow grease.

This has to be the site's best quote of the day!

Interesting. I may have to try that. My beverage of choice for gargling is a nice salty red wine. I won't bother with the descriptive details of what... I'll just stop that sentence right there. At present, coffee. In another 10 minutes, Oolong.

Brilliant! I absolutely love it! (The Pirate Brethren used to have one, and now that it is gone I really do miss it.)

What do you get if you add scuba tanks to ninjas? Navy seals!

Ditto. Though actually, if I can think of a way of making this work, I'd like to get out of my current job and find a job with Marine Sanctuaries working for the Maritime Heritage Program. My supervisor has ample money for me to take classes, but I seriously doubt he'd be willing to train me in something that would lead to me getting out of here. And that reminds me... today is the deadline for filling out my "Individual Development Plan". I'm going to fill it out like it actually matters, like it could help me move to a better place... heh... the instructions make it sound oh so rosy...

Diver Dan... he's the man!

I don't know Mr Moore personally, but I do personally know (and have worked with) some of his associates in the maritime archaeology field. These people are genuinely interested in facts. They are willing to entertain new ideas, but they less willing to entertain ideas based on pure supposition. If you want to impress them, you have to show rock-hard evidence that supports your claims.

I was suddenly taken by a question... what's the first topic ever posted here? It seems topic #1 doesn't exist. Thus, Topic #2: http://pyracy.com/index.php?showtopic=2&am...p=0entry0 I almost busted out laughing at Bilgemunkey's posts...

Kinda like a scuba diver who has just run out of oxygen...

Actually... wouldn't a ninja smilie look just like this ? But I agree, I dig this little dude too. I also like the googlie-eyed fella too.

I believe I first heard about this place via Jamaica Rose and the old Pirates-L. I didn't join right away, but lurked for quite awhile. Not sure what prompted me to join. I suspect it had something to do with recruiting pirates. As to why I stayed... well... people grow on you, even virtual people.

Gee...coastal morphology. I had to look that one up. It seems to me that the concern was something about scaffolding along the wall, hurricane. The last I heard of it was in May, so you probably know more than I. One of the best classes I ever took in college. All about going to the beach... and trying to figure out how it works. And as is obvious from the flow of the conversation, beach replenishment is a big deal. It costs lots, and frankly, many people (at least back then, and probably still today) say it doesn't work.

tally ho! Hope you had a pleasant birthday!

Obviously, think tank was what was on my mind, assuming Mission pressed us for turning it into a real job. Consider, if you will, the Cheeto...

Hey... I thought we were just dreaming...

Professional thinker... yeah... it would be great to get paid to come up with whacky ideas... maybe some of them even useful!

Ya know... if I was an enemy of America I'd attack economically. Lets say I had connections to Middle Eastern oil. I'd put pressure on them to run up the price to the point where the American economy breaks. Then I'd sit back and enjoy the show.

^ Comfort food... ooohhh... anything associated with Thanksgiving... turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes (ie., candied yams)... Warm clothing... no idea... maybe my Swiss Army trenchcoat with the Swiss staff sergeant stripes. < taking a trip underground today... haven't been spelunking in quite a few years. v Were you ever a scout as a kid?

Is that the show with Hugh Laurie? If so, I'm tempted to watch it just because of his stellar performance as George in Blackadder.
