I am currently re-hilting a rapier and a cutlass, defarbing them so to speak, and trying to dress up the rapier. I have also purchased a Coldsteel 1917 cutlass that I plan on re-working as soon as it arrives......I'll post some pics if the time fairy grants me a few extra minutes...

Nobody hit the glass, it was pretty slow being a holiday weekend methinks. I was pretty much awed by it, seeing the Whydah Bell was really cool, plus the combo of everything else. I should have went earlier in the year, so I could have gone back more....overall really amazing, but nobody was there actually playing a pirate character, a bunch of happy people glad to be working another weekend it seemed like...

Nice pics Master Arms......I do like seeing the big folk teachin the wee folk about history and other such cool stuff. A fellow copper and buddy of mine runs a business similar to yours, (he calls me occasionaly to assist) but we do presentations to school groups, home schoolers, Bible schools, etc.......and we throw out alot of jokes and such to keep them laughing and paying attention. The mind can absorb as long as the butt can endure says I.

sweet, all our leather stores hereabouts are gone under. I usually try to pick up what I need at area shoots and rendezvous, but they are becoming less frequent as well it seems......

I forgot the whole introduction thing..... I am Wes Olson, 40 years. Spent the last 25 years or so doing anything from WWII, Ancient Rome, Colonial, Rev War, and French and Indian. Always liked pirates, grew up with Disney on TV Sunday nights so we got to see Treasure Island a bit. Always been a history geek too. Married (she thinks I'm nuts) 2 daughters, love hunting, shooting, 4 wheeler, history, making weird things that people quit using hundreds of years ago. Been with the City of St. Peters, MO for the last 8 1/2 years, slowly closing in on 10 years in uniform (Police, with Ranger Division) and still love it. Got burned out on all the snobby folks in some of the reenacting circles I ran in so I backed off...then I decided to go Pirate....all the way, not just PotC....but researched and everything...... I guess I just refuse to grow up, keeps me from having to find a new excuse to act like an idiot! Respectfully, Wes

No big rush, what do you need as far as supplies? I have a black shoulder strap in the basement, but If I remember right its for a cartridge box. I am out of leather and time!! Looking forward to pics!

Great!! A fellow trader! I am looking for a basic, shoulder carriage for a cutlass or a hanger, depending on what I am doing at the time, either F and I or starting into Pirates.......I have a frog that goes on a belt and carries my bayonet for Bess, and a 'hawk, but I want a shoulder rig for a sword..... Hopefully I am making sense, its been a long night, 2328 hours and almost off duty! Wes

I built a few Roman Gladius' and for the grip I went to the local Petsmart and picked some of the white sterilized cow bone for dog chews. It is odor free and a nice white. Usually they are hollow, and they work really nice with files and sanding. Remember to wear a dust mask though, as the bone dust is carcinogenic. I am in the process of re-working one right now, and also waiting for a Cold Steel cutlass to arrive so I can re-work that one too. Check with your local scrap yard or recycling place for brass to re-do the guard. Or contact me and I can get you brass, copper, and I might have bronze in the basement too..... Wes
