  1. I have heard adding a small bit of leather to the inside but felt would be cheaper. Ive also heard that sanding the inside is not a good idea cause the sand particles can damage the blade. I would think the uneven wood splinters would hurt it more. I may line it with felt just to make this a non issue
  2. Second piece to the sheath. I cannot stress this enough, splurge for a good sharpening stone! The chisel is from a set of four I got at Michaels for $24
  3. I will I am still chisleing out the second piece. I have tried a power sander, a dremmel and to be honest the hand chisel with the oval shaped handle has been the best. Just have to keep it sharp
  4. Better view of the first piece finished
  5. Need to sand the edges a bit but here is the shape the sheath will be before i cover it in leather
  6. ">My linkcut out. Took forever to chisel this out. Only tip I will give anyone attempting this is make sure to lay the blade into the grove often. You can always take away more wood but you cnt add it back
  7. This is one side with the blade section carved pre sanding and cutting
  8. I Picked up a set of carving tools today so hopefully I will be able to make better progress tomorrow
  9. Need to pick up some better tools. The dremmel sanders and grinders didn't work the way I thought.
  10. I've got one side almost chiseled and sanded. Actually found a carpet knife was extremely helpful. And if anyone looks inside my scabbard to check the PCness of my woodworking skills that means the blade would have to have been drawn and their head lowered....
  11. Thanks. I think I have the basic shape now comes the tedious task of shaving away the wood where the blade will rest.
  12. The tutorials all deal with straight blades. Is it the same principal for building a wood core for a cutlass with a curved blade?
  13. Only thing on my list is to finally finish making a proper wedge tent for Ethan and I.
  14. Was afraid you'd say that. Never worked with it before but if it's fairly easy to cut it shouldn't be a problem then. Will check at Lowes today
  15. Thanks for the links. My woodworking skills are almost non existent so I'm wondering if Balsa wood would work for the slats since it's easy to cut and sand. I don't have any power tools so this is all gonna be done by hand. Any thoughts?
  16. I got a gift card to Tandy leather as an early Christmas present and will be attempting my first leather scabbard. Any one have suggestions on any how to guides or reference materials?
  17. Friend has been dropping sone hints that they want a flintlock for Christmas so I'm trying to help out his wife. She's got a budget of $135 which I know is low but thought I would ask and see if anyone can help.
  18. Can't post a pic but if you send me your email I'll send it to you. Mini flogger and cat o' nine tail necklaces measure three inches total, all real leather hand wrapped and come with chain. Only $10 plus $3 shipping while they last.
  19. Fellow pirate in need of help. She is trying to get her merchandise at more events by offering a cut of the profits for anyone who will display and sell her merchandie. On facebook her name is Nimue Marie or go to get shop on etsy called rudeandcreless you wont be disappointed
  20. I love Howards. Doesn't feel like the same plus though since Buffy died but still great place to meet up.
  21. Please go to www.etsy.com/shop/rudeandrecklace and check out my friends jewelry. Great skull jewelery and jolly Roger pendants and chokers. Even severed zombie finger hair clips for Halloween.
  22. Guess I'll skip that experiment then
  23. Sad that when I lived in Ocracoke playing Blackbeard I did something similar on my own ever Nov 22 but since it's become a real event I haven't made it down there. Will try again this year
  24. I know I have had to learn accents for different films or projects in a short time and what has worked for me in the past is language learning tapes. I go to the library for them. You can usually find a large selection on different languages and I just listen over an over again to the parts in English case they are spoken by someone whose first language is that of the subject matter. Won't help if your looking for a dialect specific to one area or county but it helps with the overall accent. For me it's been easy to learn my accent for pirate events because I lived in Hatteras for a long time and most of the older generations there still use a thick Bristol accent.
