  1. I have a dagger that someone gave me years ago. It's just a cheap fantasy style dagger but I like the blade on it so I redid the handle and put a different guard on it but I am having trouble removing the etching and what looks like black caligraphy on the back of the blade. The design is pretty cheezy. Gonna try sandblasting it tomorrow. Any thoughts? I'll post some pictures tomorrow hopefully
  2. The rain didn't hurt it as much as I thought it would. It's a little tighter now but I can steam it and reshape it. I used a mixture of sno seal, beeswax and leather lotion to help waterproof it. I'm just afraid more trim or extra feathers might make it to "over the top"
  3. So after the massive amount of rain we had at the Hampton Festival this June I had to reshape my tricorn and decided it was time to dress it up a bit. I added some trim and a few peacock feathers but I don't know if I like the feathers or not. I wanted to add some more gold trim underneath possibly with beadwork too. Any ideas?
  4. The 6 gun baldric on the Blackbeard maniquin at the Teach's Hole Pirate museum is simular to what the wood cuts show. I actually got a chance to try it on when I played Blackbeard there and other than it being extremly heavy it looked awesome! Don't remember who made it but if you e-mail them they can tell you. If you haven't been to the website before it's www.teachshole.com and the owners are really great people.
  5. It looks great! I have a waistcoat simular to the color and pattern of yours but haven't found any buttons I like for it yet. Any suggestions?
  6. what weight leather did you use? was it tooling leather? it looks great
  7. looks great. Having some trouble figuring out the door construction on my tents. (having to build from scratch with limited supplies). Thia definitly gives me some ideas since I too am cursed with minimal space in my car. Let's just say packing a full pirate encampmnet in the backseat and trunk of a 2 door chevy cavalier is not easy...
  8. Thought it was funny that my orthopedic and neurosurgeon both asked for one of my black and white head shots as a pirate to put up with the pictures of the athletes from the Carolina Hurricanes and the Carolina Ballet group they have in there office. I also stopped by the pediatric ward yesterday on one of my walks and donated an appearance at no charge once I'm back on my feet to come see the kids and play pirate with them for a while
  9. Thank you all for your kind words and continued thoughts and prayers. It looks like I will be heading home possibly by tomorrow morning.
  10. I appreciate that and if you ever want to make Dutch feel bad you can tell him i'd be recovering better right now if not for scooping out the longboat by hand in VA!! Just a joke, it didn't hurt my back.
  11. I know there are a few of you out there who have worked with our Capt. in the past. Chris Suttle, who has been portraying Blackbeard in eastern NC for over 8 years now will be undergoing surgery tomorrow. If you know Chris, then you have heard about his accident in 98. He was hit by a drunk driver as a pedestrian and ended up with a hairline fracture in his spine. Not wanting to give up his love for Stage Combat or playing Pirate, against his doctors better judgement he has continued to work as a proffesional pirate and stage combat instructor. Sadly though, the hairline fracture in his spine has cracked and caused three disk to rupture in his back and cause nerve damage as well. He will be undergoing a 6 hour back fusion and lumbar decompression operation to repair the damage. We are very confident with the neurosurgeon and orthopediac surgeon performing the operation but would still ask that you keep him and his family in your thoughts. He will be home after 5 days and is determined to be up and moving around again in time for the events we have scheduled by Sept. The Doctors have told him that because of where they are fusing the spine he will be loosing some mobility but they also told him in 98 after his accident that he wouldn't make it this long without surgery so I have no doubt that he will be back to swinging a cutlass around in no time. First Mate Briggs of Capt. Scurvy's Crew Raleigh NC
