i'll be setting up friday day... i'm not sure if i'll be on nights still,.. if i am, i'll be there saturday morning... if not, then friday evening... or i may be showing up after work at about 330 in the morning... can ya wait up for me ??? kinda skeered of the dark !!

the best way i found is to attend a few local events... "local" however may mean a little road trip !! there , you will more than likely find a number of people just like you... as with most people, there is not always an event in your own backyard... you may be suprised at how many from your area there are !!

from the little bit that i've read, a book or two and afew articles, about blackbeard and bonnet, i come away with the impression that blackbeard was simply using bonnet and when he was done, simply discarded their "friendship" as if it were no use anymore... he added to his flotilla, his army, and therefore, his success... maybe ditching bonnet was the first order of business when he started to "scale down" his operation...his ship and most of his crew came next leaving him and a few select men ALL of the treasure... he used his men, ditched them and kept their share for himself, so why not use bonnet, his ship and his men the same way ??

ok, time for the questions !!! there is listed a flannel waistcoat...does anyone know if it is like the flannel we know today ?? and the towel... curious to know how close the towels of today were to those back then...(pretty much so we can hang out period correct towels to dry instead of our sponge bob towels we currently have !! ) what is a mail pillion ??

speaking of wich, the crew of the mercury ( currently sans flag ) will be represented at the blessing of the fleet in portage de sioux this saturday... adding some piratitude and a battle with the "gypsy rose" which is the featured boat...

here's a link to my pics... http://s360.photobucket.com/albums/oo45/ysail2/pirates%20of%20paynetown%202010/?start=all hot ?? not as hot as fort de chartres !! fdc was just outright miserable... paynetown was very tolerable... something to do with the constant lake breeze and availability to jump in and drench yourself !! also the shade was ALOT better... i made a wing to attach to the fly... didn't work out as wonderful as i wished, but did provide alot of extra shade...i think i may eventually get a bigger fly... i enjoyed myself.... i don'tthink there was as many as last year... nathan had alot of last minute cancellations... saw alot of people again, met new ones... had a great time

AWESOME job on the coat !! i tried prick stitching when i did my breeches.... (tried ot imitate those that could do it AND keep theirs nice, even, and well spaced ) after i did mine, i decided to keep the stitches invisible on the next one !! works just as well, but doesn't show my lack of skill :) niiiiiiice !!

yes you are correct, good sir... i merely wished to give a general idea... but if i am not mistaken, there are only a few events that require such membership ?? or a few activities during general events ??

welcome to the pub !! to put my two cents in regarding a few questions.... crew?? ya don't NEED a crew... you just need to fit in and play along in whoever's backyard yer in at the moment....maybe stay away from the mercury crew.... i hear they take anybody in !! (poking a little fun at me) spread out ?? yes alot are, yet travel and get together at events...william redwake has mentioned that there are no like minded individuals within something like a gazillion miles of him... makes it kinda hard to get into a local crew... name ?? had a silly one at first, then opted for one that would most likely have existed in the time frame... didn't wanna be "captain -----" because everyone seemed to be, but if you wanna make yours work for you, then go for it !! period correct ?? (pc) since i didn't have anything better to follow at the time, i chose to follow the more well versed crowd here which so happens to follow pc-ness... learning lots as i go, and hey , even me, a near deaf, eyesight going, long time construction worker, never sewn before kinda guy, cut out, fitted and mostly hand sewed my very own breeches !! and they didn't turn out all that bad either !! next ones will be even better !! besides, it can be a very rewarding, challenging, and educational path to follow... reenacting ?? depending on your level of involvement, that too can be very fun... get to do neat sh!t !! hope this idiotic rambling helps in some manner.... good or bad !!

here's a pic... and bo, i made good enough time going home that i was able to stop at an antique mall and found it... the tag says brass, but it very well may be copper... it looks like it is about 2 gallons... there are 3 splits, this high lights the longest one..about 5 inches long, the other two are about an inch long

just picked up a brass bucket that has some splits in it...about 4 inches is the longest one... i know there is a way to fix it, but how ?? brazing (sp?) comes to mind, but wanna hear from someone who knows for sure...
