Well, I believe the Elissa has set sail from my home port and is bound back to her own but she left me absolutely in love. I'd done quite a bit of work with and on smaller square riggers in the past but nothing near so grand and beautiful. Among many other things, the staff put on a one day quick sail-training session and though the turnout was sadly low, the enthusiasm was high. We hoisted 15 of the 19 sails (Three headsails, fore course, fore lower tops'l, fore upper tops'l, main t'gallant stays'l, main topm'st stays'l, main course, main lower tops'l, main upper tops'l, mizzen topm'st stays'l, mizzen stays'l, spanker, and gaff tops'l) and went through the motions of …

I was curious as to what this works out to as a "scale." It looks to be based upon the set drawings, rather than the multi-level sail "full" version. http://www.amazon.com/Pirates-Caribbean-Bl...e/dp/B000ICSC00 Provided dimensions: 6.5 x 26.5 x 21.8 inches

Ok, it's time to button up my short vest. I know how to sew button holes but I'm not sure of placement and orientation. First, vertical holes or horizontal? I'm guessing horizontal (perpendicular to most modern shirts). Also, how about side of shirt. The conventional placement is buttons to starboard, holes to port on mens shirts but was this always the case? I've come too far to screw up a detail like these.

Just wondering since the price is right! Plus I wouldn't mind working or weathering the handle What do you think? Rats

'oy Mates, I'm cleaning out me hold, so to speak, and I have come across several PC video games that I had neatly packed away in their original boxes. All have been played and enjoyed, but I just don't have the time or space for them any longer. Maybe you know someone who desrves a special gift that will help pass the time during these coming Winter months. Maybe you will treat yourself to some piracy on the virtual High Seas. I am asking just USD $10.00 plus shipping for each game. Most are for Windows 98 and earlier. I am not sure how that will work out on XP ('cause I have been too busy/lazy to try it out.) I will gladly answer any questions about each game and th…

OK, before anyone asks - yes, I've searched for old and new shoe topics. And I found several. And I read them. And it seems that shoes are more of a frustration for everyone than I'd ever realized. I have a great pair of pirate boots, but come PiP this winter, I'm opting for the "when in Rome" approach, and am going to try and look passably authentic. I actually have a decent pair of buckle shoes from Flying Canoe - not perfect, but decent. Problem is they have no impact cushioning at all, and they're way too snug to allow for the inserts that would make it possible to last for several days in these shoes. I'm trying to stretch them, but it's looking like it might be tim…

A noisy parrot that likes to imitate sounds helped save a man and his son from a house fire by mocking a smoke alarm, the bird's owner says. Shannon Conwell, 33, said he and his 9-year-old son fell asleep on the couch while watching a movie. They awoke about 3 a.m. Friday to find their home on fire after hearing the family's Amazon parrot, Peanut, imitating a fire alarm. More here.

I've got a really nice cutlass for the middle of the GAoP, but I had a couple of blades left over from a project at work so I figured I'd make myself two new ones - one early GAoP/buccaneer, and the other for the tail end of the GAoP to see me through the later periods I sometimes do.

I tried to sneak this in under My Garb to keep from starting a new thread. Mr. Grave generously kicked in his 2 pence, but I was hoping to get some more opinions. I'm starting to look at waistcoats. I've decided to go with a Reconstructing History pattern, 30 Helens agree RH has some of the best patterns. Yeah, quite a few pubbers...(oh hell you know what I mean) agree too. But the question is which one would go with what I have so far, I'm not sure where I fit in GAOP. I've tried to stay closer to the late GAOP period... (Now imagine a bunch of pirates wearing khakis swing dancing and GAOP appears on the screen at the end) Alright I miscounted, there is another question…

I finally got my new pants and they fit like a dream. Feel comfy too. They were made with the hemp linen from RH. I'll be getting some pics of the whole getup on here after this weekend. Oh, yeah I finished my scabbard too. I wanted it to be PC with it but with a flare. Not sure how well I pulled it off. Newly panted Pogue

I bought a pair of Hushpuppies in 1992..For like $50 bucks..So they were just sitting in my closet..At first I just slapped a strap over the front and put a pilgrim buckle on there and called it a day..I have different pairs of boots and I love my boots, but after seeing Patrick Hand and visting Gentlemen of Fortune, I wanted some Buckle shoes. I'll eventually purchase a correct pair, but for now I just need something that looks o.k. and is comfortable.. and these shoes are VERY comfortable for me. So here is what they looked like at first.. So I added some Tongue and then a little buckle that would look o.k. and then covered them in Antique leather stain that has a gl…
