Just saw Shrek 2 with the crew tonight. There be pirates innit! They be providin local color in a tavern. A fellow with a hook plays the piano, with Tom Waits providin the vocals. (I think. I'm sure no one else on earth sounds like him.) But the best part wasn't even in the movie. I won't give it away. Just be sure you get to the theatre in time to see all the trailers and commercials and such before the film. Not sure if they'll show it in every market, but I hope so! Not to be missed!

Qwee Qweggs to the Captain: "Polyester skivvies are no good....they get fuzzballs, or whatever" Captain back to Qwee Qweggs: "Aye....Let's look for cotton...or better still...Hemp" Qwee Qweggs to the Captain: "Hemp available at Wal Mart? Will miracles never cease?" The Captain entered the front doors, and quickly embraced the old man (greeter) wearing a blue smock with the name "Virgil" emblazoned across the back. Virgil was hoisted, spun with glee, and placed back onto the floor, where he immediately took a heart pill. (Virgil was 82 and a sweet man) Ahab was in a fairly good mood. He wanted to buy something for his companion. "Yo! Qizzkeg or Qwetzleqwat…

Well, I saw three hours of Colonial House on PBS last night. All I have to say: to many freebies, too much incompetence. I remember Hawkyns said something about associates of his volunteering for the show and being turned down. Well, I have to say that "Colonial House" seems to be far more "reality TV" than the superior (and entertaining) "Frontier House." Some observations: Too many freebies. The houses were built for them, the natives spoke english, and there seemed neither any attempt nor urgency to try to do things in a time appropriate manner. "Frontier House" had its anachronisms, but the pioneers spent the first winter in a tent, because they didn't get thei…

Today I read a very entertaining book, part of Jon Sciezka's Time Warp Trio series, which I loved when I was in about 3rd grade. This book, the only one I hadn't read, was called The Not So Jolly Roger . It was about three boys who go back in time and run into Blackbeard. Quite amusing, a picture of Teach wearing a Mets cap , and also some good historical tidbits fer younguns, basic stuff like names o' ships, people, weaponry, even a little history v. hollywood. All in all I thought it was good. Perfect fer those piratical parents tryin' ta introduce their children ta the sweet trade.

THE PIRATE By Shel Silverstein Oh, the blithery, blathery pirate (His name, I believe, is Claude), His manner is sullen and irate, And his humor is vulgar and broad. He has often been known to imprison His friends in the hold dark and dank, Or lash them up high on the mizzen, Or force them to stroll down a plank. He will selfishly ask you to dig up Some barrels ill-gotten gold, And if you so much as just higgup, He'll leave you to fill up the hole. He may cast you adrift in a rowboat (He has no reaction to tears), Or put you ashore without NO boat, On an island and leave you for years. He's a rotter, a wretch and a sinner, He's foul as a fellow can be,…

A movie (that probably some of you liked as a kid and some did not) that my kids watched the other day, and I had not seen in YEEEEEARS was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I totally forgot that movie had Pirates in it. Wouldn't call it a "pirate movie" per-say but they certainly gave Dick VanDyke a good chase.
