Greetings All, I have been reading through various threads in this forum and I believe I have a handle on some aspects of PiP, but I still have a few questions... This will be my first year attending PiP and I am not yet a member of a specific re-enactment group. I hope to be coming down with things to sell as a merchant, but my merchant goods, while hand made and Historically inspired, are not replicas. I have noticed that the theives market area seems to have a bit of leeway for decorated and disguised "EZ-ups" which would make things much easier for me. So, gettin' to my questions... May a Merchant stay with (camp within) their merchant booths? If not, how might I…

It was suggested that we might consider a short film project for Pirates in Paradise showing people preparing and then participating in the festival. How many of you would be interested in filming your various preparations (i.e., tent making, costume sewing, gun crafting, etc.)? We would then collect the various parts and put together a twenty or thirty minute film on PIP '07. I have two brothers who do video editing professionally, so we have our post production team, but I would need people to film themselves separately prior to PIP. We will also be filming some raids and camp activities as part of the documentary.

Greetings all! The Buccaneer encampment is rollilng right along. We will be portraying life in Port Royal in 1680, just at the end of the buccaneer era there. Port Royal was at the height of its prosperity and power at this time, the devastating earthquake still 12 years away. Since pewter-ware has been arriving here in the past few days, we wanted to share our excitement and enthusiasm for the project. We have 10 to 13 in the camp so far. Most of it is our own crewe but others are welcome. Over the next few weeks I and others will be posting more about our activities. Suffice it to say, our adventures in period Port Royal will be a lively affair, with a cast of hist…

Anyone in the Northern Texas Republic interested in going to PIRATES IN PARADISE FESTIVAL in November 2007? I'm looking for way to haul my period camp to the site. Otherwise it's the lubber hotel for me if I be flyin'. I'm looking for someone that can get their grubby pyrate paws on a van or truck. My 79 Jeep is getting too old for long voyages. Am especially interested in travelling with some else into period camping. Ladies who look especially fetching in my camp would also be suitable I am hoping to avoid having to borrow a van from my friends in the local Chinese Mafia (I hate oweing favours with compound interest). I currently reside in Richardson but will be …

I don't have much of a travel budget this year, but through a stroke of luck I found myself with a free AirTran roundtrip travel voucher! I'd love to use it to finally check out the wonder that is Pirates in Paradise, but worry that accomodation expenses in Key West could quickly overshadow what I would have paid in airfare anyways. Anyone have any hot suggestions? I don't have a period tent, so the encampment wouldn't be an option (even if it's something "outsiders" can join.) I suppose it would be piratey to just crash drunk beneath a tree, get picked up by the cops, spend the night in county jail, and negotiate my release in time for day 2, but I probably can't make t…

The only area for which we are proposing minimal 1720 standards will be on our own little 1720 camp, a very small part of the whole affair, where we would like to do skill demonstrations, answer questions about the GAoP, pose for photo-ops and recruit new pyrates to the greater world of pyrate reenacting. So there is lots of room at PiP for pyrates of all stripes within the years and standards that Harry has set. As Patrick has said, good, honest attempts at period dress should be honored and then improved on, either on the spot or for next year. He also noted that neither one of us are done with development either. I plan to sew an entire kit this year as up to this p…

OK folks After reading many of the posts and seeing some of the "interesting" pics, I'm wondering about a schedule of events and the locations of said events. I ask this for the simple reason that if a trip is deemed possible, I would like to ensure the best part of said event are enjoyed. Cheers

The 2006 event was scaled down significantly from years past due to a number of reasons I won't get into here. My intent is to build the event little by little. Don't want it to explode because then it will get out of control. A big THANK YOU!!!! to all who were able to make the 2006 event. We were able to spend some quality time together and talk about how we can improve the 2007 gathering. And, the suggestions made by Patrick Hand, Silkie, Capt Jim and Capt Rusty and others will be incorporated. Thanks for helping this Civil War guy get a better handle on the period we're trying to interpret!! Also, I met a gentleman from England who was here in '05 and had a blast as …

Mates, sorry to take so long to register, but I'm here now. Fire off (no broadsides please!) your questions about the 2006 Pirates in Paradise Festival in Key West! You can register for the event by downloading the application (in pdf) at http://www.forttaylor.org/PiP_Registration...n_Form_2006.pdf You can either submit it electronically or print it out and mail it to me (address is listed on the form). I'm looking forward to meeting you newcomers to the festival and welcoming back those of you who were here in 2005. There will be a Pyrate Pub for you to enjoy your libations! There will be plenty of opportunity to blow off some black powder. If you're flying to the ev…

Pyrate Camp 2007 1 2 3 4 7

OK, I know it's kind of early, But this gives us plenty of time got get everything together to make the 2007 Pyrate Camp even better. This year at P.i.P. we talked about the basic concept of Pyrate Camp being that we are careening our Ship, and we are using what would be available for Pyrates to use. So canvas tarps and sails used as shelter works. Tents also work, but if someone doesn't have or can't afford a tent, a large chunk of canvas (pre-washed in Hot water so it shrinks and won't leak if it rains), some rope, poles and tent steaks, can have a shelter... More on shelter in a latter post... I want to see if we can "borrow" some barrels, and also figure out what st…

Hope you all had a wonderful turkey day. I recommend you bring some medications to ward off the crud that seems to be going around town this month. All of us at the park have had it and it's a bugger to lose. I realize that some of you will arrive on Wednesday. Once you get into Key West, contact the park office or our ranger station at 305-292-6713 and have them get a hold of me. Or leave your name and number with them and I'll return your call. Don't really want to give out my cell phone number to the world, as it were. We'll be setting up our tents on Wednesday as well. For those arriving on Wednesday (29 Nov), you're invited to a party at one of the marinas the next…

I was wondering what facilities were provided and what should we bring? Are there shower facilities? potable water? rest rooms or portapoties? I saw that we will have a firepit, so w can cook over that? What about water and ice? Is there a place nearby or in the fort? Can we bring our own alcohol?
