OK here are the pictures of the latest sea chest to roll out on my shop. It belongs to Miss Lily Alexander. This one is solid cherry with wenge cleats. The finish is straight linseed oil. I have been letting it sit in the sun for the last few days to let it darken. All I need to do now is get some beckets on it.

For ten bucks I couldn't leave the thrift store with out it. it's one of those "Wal Mart" style trunks but I still think it has potential once I remove all the handles and the front lock. Tried to upload a pic but it was too big so I snagged this one Only difference is mine only has handles in the front and not on the sides and no wheels. It's partical board covered in a thin imitation leather like material. So if anyone has ever undergone the process of converting one of these into a more period piece please let me know

Ahoy Mates, Does anyone know of a commercially (or otherwise) available pattern for a coat appropriate for the years 1710-1715 that would be fairly easy for a novice to assemble? I started to buy the "Jack Sparrow" pattern from Simplicity, but I really prefer something that is completely historically accurate instead. Any help would be so greatly appreciated, and me thanks in advance!

Well, I began working on this a couple months ago and haven't taken much time to work on it. But... here is a halfway picture of the sleeved waistcoat I'm working on that looks somewhat like the one from the V & A museum. Being new to this side of the 18th century (I've done later but not GAoP) I am still working on that most vital part of piracy - the hat. I have a low crown broad brim from Dirty Billy that I have used for my 1785 work -but now I am turning that large brim (5 inches) into something cocked. I have put in a single thread to hold up two front spots - but am not sure what will be the best (most period) material to make it a permanent change. Here are some period hats... some are on pirates, some sailors, and some are on Gentlemen... My pirate interest really only concerns the Golden Age of Piracy (and maybe a decade or so either side), and I have only been studying and researching the topic for about the last 8 years or so (which pales in comparison to some on this board). But most of what I have read or seen period pictures of in regards to hats for the period of 1680-1730 refers mainly to tricorns, round hats,, red caps, and some sort of knit hat like a Thrum or Monmouth. I just got back from a antique/thirft store in Durham and found a wooden jewelry box with a leather top and a metal pirate ship in the middle with ornate wood carvings around the edge of the box. Eve cooler is when i opened it there was a small sliding compartment that had a 9 volt battery in it and I found two dials on the side of the box. It looks like it was an old radio an there was a small speaker in the bottom. umm i need advice... i have buttons that are pc...{thanks to you mary diamond!!} but when you place them on the coat, the scale is all wrong--- no matter how many you try to place on there..... no matter how few { that makes the problem MORE apparent!!!} so geeeeee how does one search for 17th centurybuttons? man would i love non pc blingbling as i intend to wear this coat all winter some flash in the pan!!! opinions please!!TIA

So my crew decided that with my recent back surgery they would make a handicapable pirate parking sign to hang in the encampment or on my tent. So far it's a yellow caution sign with a black shape that looks like Long John Silver. I like it but wanted some other ideas to throw at them for the sign. Any ideas?

Well after a couple of events I've decided to revisit my tent rig. Here is a pic of the old rig. Now the NEW one. I'm using a peg design that I've seen in many commercially made tents. Inside view. This had enabled me to shorten the length of all the poles. Which is great! Now I can fit things into a smaller vehicle.

since the rest of my encampment is lacking in a few things, mainly tables and chairs, i am looking into making or buying a few things... in the pic below, i am fancying the design of the red table and chair ( stool ?) in the foreground... i saw quite a few at paynetown and never dawned on me to bother asking about them... ( ok-- i'm slow ) i figure that they fold up for easy storage... anyone have this kind of table set up ?? and anybody have any plans ??

I don't know if there are any roses stores near anyone but they have some really nice old style zuit suits with some piratical flair to the fabric. It's the right length for a coat and the whole suit set is only $35 right now.

Hello All, I'm trying to gather enough information to build a tent out of a piece of sail. Now my nautical knowledge is limited, so I don't know where to begin. I don't need anything fancy and using a couple poles and some rope, I would like to build a little shelter. I don't want to buy a civil war tent because too many are in use and it just does not seem very piraty to me. What I'm asking for is what type of sail material should be used. I'm thinking about the size of a standard wall tent but the shape is going to be whatever works. I like the idea of a tent made out of some pieces scavenged from some shipwreck. Any advice? So I have a really nice London Fog four button full length dress longcoat madeof black wool with a silken type lining. I have cut off the collar, removed the shoulder pads but still have to figure out what to do with the lapels. I have another wool coat the same color that's tooo small and damaged so I've cut it up to make bigger sleeves to stich on the original jacket but I still can't get the fit right. Has anyone ever tackled a project simular to this? Any advice?
