While not strictly piratical or nautical, the British Brown Bess musket dates to the Golden Age of piracy, and they were carried and used aboard ship and by landing parties. I came across this poem by Rudyard Kipling a few days ago. Readin' the last couple of lines makes me choke; but then, I'm weird ******************** BROWN BESS: The Army Musket -- 1700 - 1815. In the days of lace-ruffles, perukes and brocade Brown Bess was a partner whom none could despise-- An out-spoken, flinty-lipped, brazen-faced jade, With a habit of looking men straight in the eyes-- At Blenheim and Ramilles fops would confess They were pierced …

Greetin's all. Let me explain myself. I work for a game developer in Northern California. We are in the earliest stages of proposing a video game for the DVD market. This would be a mixture of live action and CGI. Guess who's in charge of the first proposal? Guess what the theme of the game is? You GUESSED RIGHT! Here's me question...how many of you would be interested in appearing in a game (as actors)? How many would be willing to be costume makers or prop suppliers? Set builders (if yer a Nor Cal local)?...You get the point. I'm sorry, I can't go into too much detail right now...but I needed to see if there was an interest among my pyratical brethren. More inf…

Aye, yes...I know I've been gone from the Pub for awhile, and suspect that will be the case for a another week from the looks of it. Figured I'd take a bit of time and give everyone a run down on the recent events (since I've commandered this notebook and internet connection). As of late, I've been in the process of moving and we should all know what a Port Royal pain in the arse that is. In the mix with that, I have both my personal and work computers due back from their upgrades, in the next day or two. I'm still shaking my head on how that timing worked out. .......and then, there's a business trip (Sweden) I shall be heading out for come next Tuesday. So, if ye don't…

Just now Pyracy Pub reached the 1000 member mark (says 1001 but I'm not counting myself). Welcome Willennium! It's fascinating that your username seems to play on "millineum," which means 1000! Is that just a coincidence?!

There was something I read recently, but with all that's been going on, I can't remember what it was that I read. It was comparing pirates in a way to the old viking warriors, and their methods of brutality, etc. The always showed and talked about the pirates and their swords and guns killing a man, but what did they use or do to the women they came across. Nothing about women was ever mentioned? Or, were there no women around where a pirate would have been? Or perhaps, back then, women were not worthy of being mentioned.

Alright ya swarmy sea dogs, listen up! I am in need o' three stout heart'd women to be fillin' out the ranks o' m' crew. Tis a bit o' information ya do be needin' first though afore ya hit the gangplank. First: This crew be o' the renaissance (faire) frame o' mind. (Though we are branching out to include "Dinner Theaters" in our free time) Second: We hae two stage shows that we hire out ta perform plus we work in the streets with patrons (lane interactions) at ren faires. Third: Interested candidates would be takin' on set gem names and would need to provide rainment to match said gem stone color. Fourth: We are an all female privateer crew (legalized pirates for …

Eh, I don't seem to be able to find many piratey sorts around abouts me hometown(NSW Australia) Not even enough to fill a 30 ft Yacht, let alone a larger boat of piratey proportions with swashing and buckling and such, so if there be any pirates or pirettes in the area interested in anything from sailing to just kicking around being piratey, let me know.

What funny things have happened to you when you were out in public dressed as a pirate? One time, I had to pull into a drive-thru ATM while dressed in my pirate garb and driving my Mitsubishi Eclipse. The Eclipse was very low to the ground and despite my long monkey arms, I couldn't quite reach the buttons on the ATM machine. So I reached over and grabbed the nearest thing from my sword belt, which happened to be my flintlock and started punching the buttons with the muzzle. It was then that I remembered that the ATM have security cameras and here I was, waving a pistol at one of them! I can just imagine that somewhere there was a frantic security guy sounding t…
