I gave the cafeterialady a copy of my pirate jokes to tell the kids today.

An' don't ferget this one... it be an oldie, but a goodie, it be!

"How much be corn costin' in Tortuga?"

    "A buck-an-ear!!"

    Harr harr!!

  2. Gotta go with Henry Morgan as well... he thought like a soldier as well as a sailor (does that make him a captain of Marines?? )... most of my early images of piracy stem from his deeds... sacking Puerto Bello and Panama... raiding the Spanish treasure hordes... drinking and wenching it up in wild Port Royal...

    Good times, indeed!

  3. Were you in the UK on orders? I was stationed there for a couple of years...JMF St. Mawgan.

Yeah, did some time training with the Royal Marines in Poole, and was in London for some anti-terrorism stuff... only went in short trips, of no more than a couple weeks at a time, never stationed there, though... I'd love to go back!

How did that slogan go? "Join the Navy and see the world!"

    B)

Thanks for dragging us Jarheads along with ya... some of the scenic spots of the world I've been to:

    Iraq

    Kuwait

    Israel

    Greece

    Haiti

    Denmark

    Jamaica

    Bahamas

    UK

    Germany

    Canada

    Australia

    And where I wanna go-

Cuba (that embargo thing has gotta end eventually... from some of my European mates, it is a great place for a vacation)

    Scotland

    Ireland

    France

Germany (this time hopefully I'll remember it... long story there)

    Switzerland

    Spain

    Egypt

    China

    Most of South America

And, I'm sure I'll get to most, if not all of them, eventually!

  5. I'm with Petee...

Dirty ol' band of Iraqis thought it would be funny to fire some mortars at me an' my boys... I took the brunt of the explosion, which took off most of the calf muscle on my right leg, severed the artery, broke about two dozen bones in my foot, leg and right arm, and tossed random and assorted bits of surplus Soviet shrapnel about the rest of me... unfortunately, the bandits didn't live to brag about it... too bad...

  6. Ah! A couple more fans of "Whale of a Tale" casting their votes! Outstanding! Capt. Hurricane, sir, I cannot wait to see what you and Diosa have put together!!

I can just smell the tar and the sea when I hear Mingulay Boat Song, Meg... glad you enjoy it as well!

  7. Awesome costumes, all! I'm jealous! I've got to find a scanner... I've got my stormtrooper armor, pirate gear, Rev War Marine, Civil War Marine (US), Spanish American War Marine, WWI Marine, WWII Marine, (is there a pattern here? lol), and I'm working on a Marine from the war of 1812...

  8. After consulting at length with HarborMaster and BilgeMunkey, I chose boots from CABoots... I wore those bad boys for a week, tromping all over Jamaica, and they were awesome! A little pricey, but top notch...

  9. Sorry, mate... I need help as well... I'm meeting the female pirate (Danielle?) on the beach by the lighthouse, and she told me to send my crew away, and she'd be waiting for me when I returned, to lead me on a mission... I returned, and she just runs around on the beach... now what??

    P.S. Sid Meier's Pirates! rocks . . .

  10. I actually wear a waistbelt to hold my pouch and have somewhere to slide a flintlock (and to contrast whatever sash I be wearin'), and toss the old baldric on to hold the sword... works well for me!
