It does help., I appreciate this very much...,after seeing I cannot readily obtain one however.., I am going to do an unorthodox experiment. I searched for a suitable blade I could "Pirate" from another sword that I could easily purchase..., It needed to have a LONG shoulder however., and that is a problem. Most swords have a 1 to 3 shoulder then the blade starts its cutting edge. I chose a "Conan Sword" off of Ebay because its 23" of blade and 6" of shoulder then *Probably* a welded Rat Tail thru a 7" wooden handle finally to a screw on decrative pommel cap. I just purchased it on Ebay about an hour ago. I hate getting obsessed.., its a problem for me. I am going to "pirate* this new blade by "Cannablizing" this new conan. Saving the pommel for future use. Tossing the wooden handle and hilt...,machining down the 1 1/2 inch wide shoulder to 1 inch so I can maintain a "full-Tang" sword thru handle. Use a piece of 5/8 Brass round stock and machine a slot thru its center to manufacture a straight hilt. Then use stainless sheet (maybe aluminum depending on weight) to form my "Triangular-Knuckle-Guard" (Thanks Hawkyns) . Probably wrap the solid tang in leather. Using the original threaded pommel decoration to hold the shield to the back of the sword...,after rat tailing only 1/2" at the handles end? Wow.., I am exhausted just thinking about it..., The sword I am cannablizing is thick wide and double edged......, but it gave me my Long shoulder to work with. THis should be an unusual piece not exactly a speedy musketeer unit..., more of a short and funny looking broadsword. I will however post pics when its complete...., I would think within 1 month. Crossing fingers? HarborMaster

Thank you men.., Yes this is basically what I am talking about . I like this particular knuckle bow., for the main gauche., as well as a short short. However I am curious of its durability., I know the double cutaway is for disrupting an opponents sword however it looks weak., I am sure this is not full tang.,or battle ready...,has anyone seen this particular gauche up close ., there are no specs on thickness. And this style knuckle bow is hard to find., I am not sure what the particular guard on this type is actually called. Its not a basket guard. Anyone know? HarborMaster

Does anyone here carry a Main Gauche or use one with thier kit?., I am trying to locate a good one with a knuckle bow....., however the knuckle bow (hand-Guard) Swords and Main Gauches seem to be harder to find. HarborMaster

Sure some could have their costumes on and work at fairs and gain money - but it's still a far life from boarding other ships and taking plunder. No more pirates exist. True you could do it tho.., youd work hard for a bit ., get a little travel money., get outfitted., try to steal a ship ., then go to jail..., youd last about 10 seconds. Calico Jack didnt last long either., niether did Kidd., or Blackbeard or most. There is a very fine line between pirate and privateer. That line was defined by which side you were on. Take Captain Morgans adventures against Spain., total Pirate and recognised as a privateer and rewarded as Jamaicas govenor by England for his couragious acts.., and the smart commander he was he bought lands in Jamaica., he bought brothels and other business's. He was probably the most successful of all. He didnt however take anything he wanted (English ship-He left those alone) setting an example of a thinking Pirate. However all of these pirates had one thing in common., they all used what was modern technology to them in their time.., they took advantage of what they could get. Here's a twist., What if you could build a beach property line it with a Marina., and a sea wall across the beach length and put Naval trundles on the wall., a personal garrison between your house and Bar., keeping your ship in your marina?., not a Tall ship (that would require several more years work to afford with all youve already spent) A ship however never the less ( 52 ft is a ship) Dress in Piratical clothing daily., As well as the two wenches in your Bar/Resaurant/and 4 room hotel Dressed the part as well...,use your ship for dive safaris ( 4 day live aboard cruises). And cruise where ever you wanted in a 7107 island coconut filled tropical enviroment.,moored at white sandy beaches and coral reefs., teaching foriegnors to dive thru PADI for money...., Gotta earn a livin' without going to jail...., So ! collect for your hotel rooms.., collect for your bar., marina., diving instruction., foods ., all the while prooviding a Pirate enviroment (Wenches Cannons Anchors Ship., Treasure (Bar Prop) and much more., chests at the foot of each bed in each room., which are decorated in a 1720's motif with an early spanish fort settlement look about the place? What say you to that? A pirate King!! As well as shipping your weaponry overseas ., cannons as well all to get this final layout complete? Thats right Shipping major guns internationally for yourself!! Would that be living sort of a pirate life for ya?..., and yea decked in yer best " Stolen " Govenors frock., cutlass and flintlock...., commanding your 2 gun crews to touch off the cannons at your command during festivals at the resort? ( festivals i.e. New Years/ Independance day/ The San Jose Patron saint day (towns festival) / weddings and birthdays) Its as close as I can get. I am working on it. Its coming ahead of schedule. Use your imagination..., (bust your #*lls and save yer treasure) and your piratical dreams will come true too ., if you are highly motivated and focused. Yes There is The Royaliste ! Ther is The Hawaiin Cheiftain., and there are a host of other piratical adventurers doing there lives dedicated to having fun in a piratical lifestyle and bring the enjoyment of it to those who which to participate..How about Gasparilla?., and most of all the dedicated crews (groups of loyal followers that make it their life too to enjoy which supports these endeavors). Todays Pirates are just alot smarter., They enjoy their Piratical life much longer they dont like Jail or Hanging.., Kicking out a Keg., Cheers To all those out there living under the Black Flag This drink is on me. Several studios were not marketing enough of the products people wanted from them.., for example Top quality props..., "Hero" versions if you will........,Later some did because they saw the market potential and a studio is funded to contract out build and design as well as tool up for some things that individuals quite frankly cool not afford to do well. Lawyers did get involved with Star Wars..., Prop makers and rip-off artists., then George Lucas saw in effect he was biting the hand that feeds him as he saw legit sales decline.., eventually he backed off including raiding vendors at Cons..., since now once again his following has grown...., on the flip side....., Paramount and Viacom with the Star Trek Franchise is vicious and doesnt care about fandom ..., its illegal and they hates it., and has raided Cons Taken Props that belong to vendors., (because They belong to Paramount) Handed out cease and dissist notices and court dates. And even gone so far as to shut down Gene W. Roddenberry's props on the Roddenberry sight..., So? Ask Richard Coyle about (maker of Star Trek 5 & 6 hand Phaser FOR the studio) his 1.2 million dollar lawsuit against him brought on by Paramount for making a few fan wanted units. It all boils down to how far an owner wants to pursue their rights on there product., after all POTC DOES infact belong to Disney and all of its characture names .,likeness and the like....,not You me or anyone else..,its there story You like., not the other way around. The most free pirate is to be yourself., there is plenty of history and folklore that legends are made of to create for yourself your own Piratical character..,without trying to be something we infact are not. :) I am satisfied being me..., much the same way I do not wear Nike ., or pepsi "T" shirt., I am not a walking Advertisement ....,"Hey Calvin Klien how ya doin"? LOL Peace.,and freedom., be with you all......, as you were listening to this B.S> me and me mates just rifled thru yer drawers .,stole yer booty., and are pilferin thru yer treasure........,*Wicked-Grin* Check yer empty closets !! Another Pirate Coat fer ye to bid on
HarborMaster replied to Atala Syrcuse's topic in Thieves Market
I do use my Velvet summer or not but mine had bigger cuffs., (at my request) and was longer with ALOT of Gore in the tail., and 14 buttons and trim back there as well., And it was well recieved by everyone at the Washington Renn Faire this weekend.., I really like my Blue Velvet coat (its from someone else I did not know of your works when I bought mine) Howver I cannot use it alot .or should I say I do not use it alot., I use it by choice., (however Everything we do is by chose LOL) Otherwise I am usually choosing one of my Black and simple Frocks., My blue velvet was very appreciated...., Good luck to your sale they look pretty nice. HarborMaster -
Aside from this particular Vendor has anyone ever notice the "Authentic POTC" 125.00 coin sets with COA and other lesser $$ sets being sold which are .39 Billy bones coins?., or the Cursed coin from Billy Bones web site for 10.00 and 15.00 with the Billy Bones web site sells for 1.49. I shop at Billy bones for a variety of things., but its really ridiculas some dorks are trying to pass it off as POTC for huge proffits. Just Dumb really. A really great built little prop made from a superior material and done accurate is way cool...., but some of these vendors need "Jack" slapped (no-pun intended) and the buyers MUST be even dumber.... I find it all pretty entertaining.., and then sad...., Burrrp!., ARRRRRRRRRRGGGH ! Ralph! HarborMaster

Actually they do., however youll need to call them for that., but they are really great to work with. I got the big bell ., then later we did call to get a Zorro boot. HarborMaster

Another question?., I have purchased a Duckfoot Dixie kit as of late. However it is a cap n ball (which I knew) not a flintlock. Is there a duckfoot kit out there in a flintlock version that can be had? In my search I have not been successful. I Just thought the extra gun with my kit would add to my fun., but I am guessing the cap n ball will have to do? HarborMaster

Parlay., Parlay if I may. I took the custom Big Bell., and yes they allow for toe tye heal type ect.,ect., ta be customed., The leather is very soft and very thick!., "Like slipping your hand into a velvet glove" *Wicked-Wicked-Grin* The most comfortable thing this buccaneer has caroused about in. Go get some you'll be happy These are REAL boots. HarborMaster

This may be of interest you aye' Then again it may not ...,Savvy? What say you ta that? Champion Boots HarborMaster

Copies can infact be better depending on what it is and who made it and from what. For example a Star Trek Phaser can not be had. But a GREAT copy can be. And some originals were in fact junk., resin dummies. Now with that said a HERO prop., or copy of one is what you are really wanting . For example my POTC coin is made of pewter which for me is garbage gold plated or not. However the fine detail of it under a magnifying glass reveals HIGH detail., which is why I cast it in RomaGold Alloy and Sterling Silver and ., yea I have a 14k solid at 38 grams. Then again the original chain tho it my be movie accurate for me is not too good and certainly doest warrant enough trust to hold my SS let alone my 14k coin there for I have chosen something non movie accurate however it looks great...,and is much stronger, All in all it depends on the prop.., and how bad YOU want it., and how rare it may be and whats it made from? HarborMaster
-
I say DO IT !!! I have bought most of my Garb from Ebay vendors and am REAL happy., alot for my wife as well., also many other things,. but yea buyer beware., plenty of scammers there., I have even sold a few things that were hard to get at the time (until so many others casted doops off me that I quit) However THis is just stupid I would definitely send him an Iron Bess AT Disney unit LOL . Has anyone made or know anyone interested in making a protective pouch for a flintlock pistol. Just curious what other pirates arr storing thier weapon in?., I was thinking on the leather pouch well greased? My Military heritage sea service pistol is already starting to show signs of oxidation and rust., and I have polished it off and it now is becoming more regular., whats everyone use for so picking it up isnt a grease ball .,yet at the same time keeping it protected? HarborMaster

I am just starting "Under the Black Flag. I wanted to save what I thought would be the best for last.,so far this is pretty great. Loving it. After its finished I will be reading "Terror on the high seas". Looking forward to it. With all the software out there a really good book is a quite refreshing and welcomed change of pace.
