  6. I am fairly new at this., I realize I need to beat my new clothing into the ground., and get really scroungy looking to be authentic..., but i am not gonna. I also know my outkit is not authentic in fabrics or exact period costuming and i may not fit in.., I also know there are not many piranical events close by my area. There fore however my kit is I must know in my heart the time and money spent to custom things for me., was paid for by me ., ordered by me., picked out by me., FOR ME.., to PLEASE ME. So whether or not anyone else likes it., I do., so for TALL ships I know I can wear it., as there is so many people in Seattle for such an event., people are generally having a good time anyway with out a technical care in the world really that I can be me there. The rest of the time when i can wear my outfit., itll be for me.., and not re-enactments.,or faires as there arent many here., so really all in all it is for me., I am glad I have my kit and additional pieces so I can play pirate if I want too. It's a Democracy..., I love it. F R E E D O M Best wishes to all HarborMaster

  12. Aye' Cheers Cheers Mates'.., Drinks all around.., Free Moorage in the Harbour today aye'., HarborMaster
  13. YES !!! Mr. Hawkyns..., Sir, Sounds like I better start with the 5/32 and not the 3/16.., I dont know what they have down at the machine shop for a way to mill a "bowl"., I am thinking a 1/2" drill bit just sinking the tip into the metal..., not any of the 1/2 bits shaft. The breach end of the Cannon is a 7" diameter and a 1 3/4" bore..,Wall thickness of about 2 5/8" ? Any way I am appeciative of any suggestions you may have on firing this now that we dont have to stand it up any more to get powder down its length (same bore all the way). Do you make pre-loads?., a paper ball with powder in it?... what would you do to gain speed and make loading easier? We will be firing newspaper only no-projectile. HarborMaster
  14. I am having a problem here ..,if anyone can help please advise. And if Captain Twill and Hawkyns or the Royaliste are reading this..., please advise. I have a problem For starters let me describe what I have to begin with., my cannon is 30" from end to end. 80% stainless-20% nickel alloy. A custom made critter done for me by a local foundry from a mold they had gotten.....,somewhere? 7 years ago I had it machines to a 1.750 bore at 23" long..., followed by 1" diameter by 3" more depth. totalling 26" of bore. the 1/8 " fuse hole being at about 25 3/4" . You have to literally stand the cannon on end to dump BP ., then paper pack., then lower it., and stuff fuse..., this is a hassle ., not correct.,awkward., and has failed on a few occasions due to the fuse..., then it is tough to unload. Finally.., O.k. I have it at the machinist NOW..., they are taking the 1 3/4 " bore to 26 1/4" this time..., (no-more 1 x 1 chamber we know thats bad) ., question to eliminate fuse..., I would like to light it with a hot stick., but to put BP in touch hole would be tough., so how big should the touch hole be drilled to ? (currently it is 1/8 for a fuse). so that I can pour BP in it easily but without having a hole thats to big.,and wrong. Also., at new touch hole size would it be advisable to say use a 1/2" drill bit at say 1/8" depth to create a funnel effect for the BP to trickle down filling the touch hole? Please advise this tired cannoneer. HarborMaster P.S. here are some photos of what we are talking about.,(6 years ago) http://www.villagephotos.com/viewpubimage....asp?id_=7717265 http://www.villagephotos.com/viewpubimage....asp?id_=7717255 http://www.villagephotos.com/viewpubimage....asp?id_=7717325
  15. Perhaps a section of one day for target shooting Flintlocks.., and target shooting Cannons. As well as some loading techniques., "Making the Musket balls" . Learning how to use the stars for guidance and how to properly use a Sexton., and a Compass. A Pirate village is a must., with the vendors and "smiths" doing the trades there. A tavern or two yes. I would think that would suffice., perhaps a few story tellers and other assorted entertainment. A Mock Trial with a hanging and perhaps a flogging for accomplices in front of the village. (Random Beheadings creates fear in captives). Gallows and "Stocks" for holding Prisoners should be towards the end of the village. (Keeps Captives from trying to Escape) There are many things that can go into such an event without being mission critical., geared toward FUN. Historical close but loose enough to cover a wide enough span of time that its not old enough to be a renn faire (they have those) and its not new enough to get past the revolution., shoot you could have English Red Coats guarding the gates (tickets and fare) . . . as well as patrolling . Welcome to the "The New World" HarborMaster
  16. About a Society for thee Unwanted !I would be thinking the rules would be there are none., As pirates ..,Rules are meant to be broken so whats the point ? Especially in the clothing dept. There should be "Guidelines" a natural order if you will. You should be looking for Ready .,Willing., and Loyal to the Code. A Chain of command Not A Mutinous Bunch of Idiots..., But a smooth working Captain and his Officers who could in fact get his/her Guild "Sailing" To have contacts with as many people as you can who are for example in pirate guilds already ., (There are several on the board who have there own Guild or are in one?) They need to ALL be addressed., Then collectively find out what states they are in.., and if they are followers or leaders? Follwers are a must!., However YOU are looking for the leaders. Leaders are people who may have enough experience .,leadership and desire to be able to help create events in their locale !!! Charging entry fee's can pay for the venue., It can be done at City parks? fair grounds in the off season? Camp grounds? Many places .,hopefully at least 3 times a year! Some may even choose to incorporate local charities !!! Kiwanis .,Handicapped.,for example (troubled youth) that right there draws attention from upper citizens in the community as well as recruites new blood! . Work into perhaps from the local level down a Captain of a guild to be in charge., his sargent at arms (purser).., ect., to upper members say a commodore?., a state person., and finally Admiral? Who can post the upcoming events., what they did., and how it went?. ALOT OF FUN COULD BE HAD MORE OFTEN. HarborMaster Any Ideas?
  17. Well., now that you bring that up.,?., starting one of your own., if you were to get people into building a "Society For the Unwanted" (us) an SFU foundation .,if you will hehe. I would love to Join., imagine for a minute all around the country ., shoot a membership., I bet alot of us would be into it!., Myself., on a personal note., imagine retiring and going belly up before your time?., Nasty eh?., especially in a 3rd world country!., I have quite a bit going in the Phils., however I am not ready yet. There is much to do here in the $$ about 5 more years.., However we hoped to sponsor a little local thing perhaps twice a year. As we will wear our "Kits " daily.,perhaps a little altered for our way of life aka "dive slippers" while on the (dot-Com) our boat. But to get locals out for a playtime at our bar and marina. We are hoping to have alot of fun., It will not be a money thing as there is none there., thats from a differant source.., the pirate thing we hope will become an in-expensive way to get locals to enjoy our bar an marina..., It will have a Pirate Theme.,Large Anchors., I do have a cannon tho it is only 39 inches ., it makes a huracious boom.. "As you know Isabella Anchors and Cannons make Pirates feel well defended" ! When i grow up I do wanna be a pirate. HarborMaster
  18. The Movies., Disney., Being a kid and sword fighting with Dads Drum Sticks (Musketeers).,an insatiable delight with the beach., (Huntington.,Seal., Tin Can.,Redondo.,and Santa Monica). Then came Santa Catalina Island and Avalon. Growing up was such fun., then it was gone., and then it was forgotten., Work came., Bills of all sizes for all reasons..,and some age. Then I went to the Philippines.., I saw Coconut Trees.,White Sand Beaches.,CLEAR ocean waters to 150 ft clear bottoms., coarl reefs., and a RICH History in Ferdinand Magellan., Who was in fact Greased (Killed) there by a tribal chief., Lapu-Lapu. Then came the rest of spain., And *I found myself., wanting to purchase a Beach of my own., A boat., Build a 4 walled Concrete private Marina..and the money started to come., the work got better., the beach was purchased.,( a Life I could not financially achieve in my own country?) then the nieghbor was bought., and again 2 more times., and The Pirate from Childhood came ALIVE., along with Greed and an Insatiable Obsession for Treasure (in order to afford such things)"Saving The ALL Mighty Dollar".Discapline came., "G I V E - M E - T H A T - H O R I Z O N" yea..., I am "Hooked" no pun intended., I push for this Daily., it is not a game for me., but an obsession., its in my daily thoughts and work., And I am catching up! I Love it! HarborMaster
  19. Spitfire.., The link is very much appreciated., I was able to see the boots were used in the Early Baroque 1600 thru 1650 ., so they were around., perhaps for cavalry., but they were around., meaning a person could feel land (Jungle hopping) excursions they could be good.., Late Baroque 1650 thru 1700 introduced the tricorn as well as Petticoat breeches as well as Large Cuffed Frocks. The Rococo period 1700 thru 1775 .., actually had about the same coat and vest., however with a reduced cuff size. The Revolution period spanning from 1775 thru 1795 Towards the 1795 part of this ...,really was the ending of such frocks.,hats.,vests and even pants in history. So I think Historically ., my out fit., as with what I think many others are here., Frocks-Tricorns-Bucket-Boots., otherwise known as the "HollyWood-Pirate" tho not probable..., was in fact possible..., After all I may in fact have a place in time., tho no faire supports me., I have the option of attending the far and few Pirate Festivals or Tall Ships events., or wearing it for Halloween ., ThanksGiving (colonial appeal) Perhaps a New Years Party., 4th of July.., and or any other time., I need to aquiest to someones request. I am probably not welcomed at a ren faire.,therefore will not go (Altho I looked at the clothing for that too., HAHAHAHAHA ., A Doublet., look like some POOFED UP Shorty bloomers below a jerkins.., then tights., thats right TIGHTS..,*Smiling*..., uhhhhh No !!!! I can not say this enough HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!! "GAWD DAMN !!! GAWD DAMN!!! Whoooooooo-Yea !!!! Ha Ha ~~~~ Let me say this again..., HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!!! Whoooo What a RUSH!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA Ahhhhhhhh., *sigh* ahhhhhh I think I will stick to being Late Baroque - Early Rococo period ...,And Retain my dignity., Retire in the Philippines., Float my own boat., and make my own rules., No Ren Faires there., No Rules., F R E E D O M .., yea..,7107 Islands of it., ...., I dont know about the rest of you., but 7107 Islands to retire in., gets my pirate butt motivated to add to my "Phlip Phund" as I call it each month...,Savvy? Pretty weird eh? I wish The Pirates had their following as big and broad based at the SCA ., as in more events..,I Really enjoy the costume., and the commeraderie., of the people.,as well as the wonderful kits (outfits) ..., they is just so few in the North-West.., Bummer ( HarborMaster
  20. This is cool ..., I am on a learning curve., which is exactly what I was hoping for. I am happy with my attire however to understand what and when is interesting and can help to make adjustments as well. I cant give up the tricorn., for the Barbosa type hat .., however colonial it may be. I think other than my boots ., I am more colonial dressed?... On the fire power side of things.., where does the flint, dog.,and wheel lock come in ?., and in a 1700-1790 ? outfit what should I really be looking for?...,I am on a waiting list for the loyalist 1763-66 French pistol. For my outfit would that be more fitting.., or is there something., more suited?., what of this Queen Anne pistola? HarborMaster
  21. Hawkyns.., I have read alot of the posts in here., and to me as an authority on whats correct ., whats questionable., and whats not., and in a historical context., I must say I appreciate your cander and your wisdom., I have learned from the posts you have made and some others., I do thank you and hope you do not mind a question or two from me., in a pm .,or what have ya from time to time., so I can get a better indication of what I am doing before I do it., Experience in something cannot be bought., your efforts to the board I believe are a service to everyone here. Royaliste ., and a few others (cant remember everyone off the top o me head) have also been informing to read as well., I am grateful to have found your pirate's forum. as for the boots., I had no knowledge till what I m reading now., "just liked them"., I did however order to the knee and a low heal., Champion boots lets you fully customize., if you do not., they send them out with a 2" cuban heal..., I ordered mine with a 1 1/4 (shortest they had) wrestlers heal., just because I dont feel comfortable in anything tall. Bloody Jack Madd., yea I cannot do 2 full blown kits at the same time either ., so I pieced my pieces out to seamstress's as I go too. I must admit folks., I did not go authentic., and many people making my garb fought me on it. I won cause I paid the bill. And I must say I am thrilled with what I have recieved. For example., I found some blue and white striped "TEFLON" coated material and had a pair of pants made from it., go ahead Laugh.., see if I care.., With a blousey shirt and dive slippers and a sash., fish blood on the boat wont stain these., and I can dive into the water., sit on a concrete sea wall., whatever., these are light and BUFFED. ., they wont rip .,tear., or snag. my Black coat is made of the same poly cotton blend as a pair of dickies., Tough., NO-Rip No fading., No-Dry cleaning Wash and wear., tropical sun., wet dry., long life kick butt Black Pirate Frock..... (hard to find a good dry cleaner in the poverty stricken philippines).. So you see I cheated., but I did it for durability so this stuff can take daily use for several years...,Some of this stuff., costs alot and it can add up quickly!!! truly., High Diddley Dee its the Pirates Life fer me..., I got too much into this stuff ., to let it go., and start over., I gotta live with it now. But I think its going to really last. The Politically Incorrect and Controversial "HarborMaster"
  22. I will do the best I can., and if I get flack., I will try to consider what ever source it is coming from as politely as i can., I really did not use refrence material going into this., basically.,Jumped into it., without much knowledge., thinking about what things appealed to me., not very logical. Some critics., perhaps I will learn from., others perhaps wont matter?..., If I can have fun., pass out treasure and play with kids and get my wife to go in her winch outfit then I am gonna be happy just the same The big fluffy sleeved shirts are a must., I have always relished the thought of some Bucket top boots., so I bought the best I could afford., and for a tricorn., I have been wearing a Civil War cap daily for 20 years at work., Leather., so again Leather on the tricorn., The Frock., simple in frills., but big on cuffs and gore in the tail., the., sashes are a bit new and loud in color., The leather baldric and boarding cutlass made me happy by there appearance., correct or not., I guess I did it for me. I have purchased two custom frocks (the other a crushed blue velvet) 4 pants ., 2 white shirts a red., a dk blue., many accessories.., If it doesnt work well at a faire..., I know it will work well after I sell the rooter service and retire at the beach in Negros Oriental ,Philippines., as I can come an go as I please on our boat., and freak out all the locals at the public markets., till there used to me...., who knows..., perhaps after I get a regular route of a few stops., between Negros., Cebu., and Siquijor., the locals may take on a pirate look of there own, might start a trend *Wicked-Wicked-Grin* That dream is already working itself out., just hope I am not too old a pirate to get off my own beach.., I hate the thought of watching others sail by from our marina HarborMaster :)
  23. Smooth very smooth..., i like the like the little post mounted cannon ., "catchem on the run that way" Sharp video HarborMaster
