  4. Wow Zorg.., Well told tale indeed. Most unfortunate..., Here I am as SCUBA diver and I smoke.., if I'da been there it probably woulda been my butt. Glad yer back., and perhaps the Jurying will get past the bad times.,and you can all get into some new good ones. HarborMaster P.S. I take it that Doglock has all the reliability to spark as any bodys flint.
  5. After cutting off the ear of an innocent victim.,and frying it up for him to eat.,taunting him with it.., Screaming ....., "Show Me The Money" * Jerry Maguire* HarborMaster

  8. I'm a little??????????????? confused here too? you mean like what do we spend our $$$"loot" on?., Plundering?.., How do I pilfer the treasure I make . And how much is it per week?., or at market?., I'm kinda not sure yer meanin' ask me plain an I'll do the best I kin do to answer Savvy? What say you to that ? HarborMaster
  9. Well Done !! Well Done heres to Fort McHenry., and Jacksons battle at New Orleans...,wish I had recorded it HarborMaster
  10. Sounds ,like a pirate to me! Edward Low ., John Avery and many others have ruthlessly killed maimed and tortured.., cutting off body parts and cooking them .,then making the victim eat them. All in an effort to get information from the victim about the where abouts of treasure. The burning of people while they are alive., perhaps Raping the women then setting the ship a fire. These piratical things are all common in our pirate history. I found Jose Gaspars story interesting and am reading the rest of the above linked website.,well done so I bookmarked it. If you want to read about attrocities and government involvement of piracy and the downfall of Spains claim to the New World beginning in 1496 and forward ...,as well as Privateers.,Bucaneers.,and Pirates try TERROR ON THE HIGH SEAS by David Cordingly the Hardback pictorial. I am in this book now at chapter 4 its hard to put down. Great reading there as well as pictures of artifacts, paintings, maps, and documents from maritime museums.., Its the best I have read so far...,a nice coffee table version. HarborMaster
  11. That sounds like a pretty good idea. I was unsure how I would wrap it. My father came over annd made a loop like a hangmans loop then holding it firmly proceeded to wrap over the loop.., (the loop being several inches longer than the area to be wrapped) . After wrapping the entire handle., to the end he then put the wrap end into his loop., one the other end where the end of the loop was past the handle...., he pulled on it! That cause the knot to be dragged under the wrap to the middle of the handle. He's a crafty one.,and so I call on his cunning to help me when in doubt. Yea I could make you one I am not sure how much to charge tho to be fair to each.,.,something reasonable. This is about all I am going to do to the sword., I am thinking about a stencil and testors paint to put an old spanish cross on the guard., but thats about it. The idea here is to obtain Full Tang at bargain prices., a good sword is pricey and most often *still a rat tang* as in Not Combat Ready or SCA approved . Serve as a costume piece while still being able to kick around a bit and still look good with out breaking. I am happy. Cheers to all. HarborMaster
  12. Very nice., I have been enjoying it off an on for a couple of days now., its a great bookmark ! ! ! Thank You For Sharing HarborMaster
  13. So far I have most of it completed tonight. except the hand wrap. I broke that pulling too tight The inside of the triangle guard got red felt and the full tang recieved a few layers of leather., then I checked sizing., and added a bit more. Then during the wrapping I finished but while pulling the slip knot thru under the wrap., .........., I had the end in my hand ...,snap. Anyway I am ready to start wrapping again. I will post another pik soon after its finished. I did take it outside for a swing or two., its much better then my Denix pirate cutlass., perhaps because its solid., not a rat tail and because the guard is alot lighter. I dont know but it does feel good., Fast sure sturdy light and short. I ended up with 21" of blade from the guard front to the tip., + the guard and handle. At 5'8" a 37" rapier is a bit much for me and makes me look like a little kid with daddys sword. HarborMaster
  14. Thank you men .., Today after work I was able to use a cut-off wheel for a dremel and make a deep cut on each of 2 sides of a 1/2 square stock piece 3 1/2 long. Then I used a drill bit and finally a file to mill out the hilt. After that I drilled and threaded the ends for the brass quillons. Then a test fit it. Tomorrow I plan on a little paint and some attention to the handle to finish this off at which time I will post a couple of finished pics Pretty much I was after a short sword to accompany my short stature and of course I really wanted the spanish Triangle Knuckle Guard to add to my Spanish heritage. I have really enjoyed this project.,it was pretty simple and fun. HarborMaster
  15. Any and all ideas are a definite help. The brass lamp parts are sectional and screw together., the photo is 2 and an end (3 pieces) I have since now reduced it to 2 pieces (one and the end). Your way definitely looks better as well as the comfort too I bet.., Doesnt look so much like an olive pick for a cocktail this way now. I am not sure what to do with the handle. I was thinking about using a piece of wood (thin.,swolen in the middle and thinned on the length edge) for filler. then wrapping over that with leather? Maybe a tassle or two for renn faire purposes. Yes !! the full tang makes me feel better swinging it about a little. The Quillons I dont think I can bend without breaking. Also I believe I can use a small wrench as a measured scoring tool..,to scribe in a border for the perimeter of the guard., that could be painted? any ideas? HarborMaster
  16. So far ., things are working out pretty good (even better than expected for a full tang short sword. The machining is pretty simple and a grinder goes a long way. I found some solid Brass machined lamp parts that will work well for the ends of the hilt. I used a piece of cardboard to make my pattern then cut the guard from Stainless steel with the help of a die grinder. Here are a few photos if any of you are interested in a Spanish type of hand guard. HarborMaster
  17. Who knows., they are probably still writing. 6 months ago it was something to the effect of "Will looking for Elizabeth..., something about a prison and connecting with Jack to escape then together look for Elizabeth.., I wont be guessing anymore . I will wait and enjoy the movies. After all it is fiction., Paramount brought Spock back "There are always possibilities". I am sure the Movie will be great especially with Depp he did set the Pirate into his own and it wouldnt be the same with out him thats for sure. Imagine a differant "joker" No-one could have done for the Bat what Nicholson did. Some parts are better for certain actors and changing horses in the middle of the creek is never a good idea. HarborMaster
  18. Congrats !! Scurvy!!., Fill is bottle with Rhum and he'll make ye proud! HarborMaster
  19. There was ALOT of pirates in Asia..., and still are. One a Woman had over 4000 vessels in her flotilla and actually retired. By many considered to be the most sucessful pirate of all time. Second being Captain Morgan who's piratical privateering got him a governorship on Jamaica. Asia would be great....., especially with a few large chinese junks..,A beautiful ship in its own right. HarborMaster
  20. No sarcasm intented.., I didnt think he was to be back., yes I know what movie fiction is. The coin was dropped ., I thought it was the end for him..., and yes you can be snappy..I have observed it in the past. HarborMaster
  21. I hate to break hearts...., but Barbosa's dead.., perhaps nobody watched it that far?.., Jack killed him. A bullet. I believe the 3 remaining main characters and whomever new they introduce to be a villan is probably more like it?..., After all the aztec gold was infact returned thus breaking the cursed pirates i.e. Barbosa's demise. I am sure POTC 2 and 3 will do VERY WELL . Yes many part 2's are floppers..., but I think POTC is special for Disney after all it took them 50 years to make the movie after the ride..., I bet they do a super job on these additional parts of story. I look forward to adding them to my collection and enjoying them for years to come. HarborMaster
  22. Top O' the marnin' to ya Gutterpunk13..,as with the tradition in the Pub., along with yer first post, Youll be pourin the first round.,savvy? Rhum., I'll have a Rhum. Tis a fine idea ta be sure. A tavern of yer own at the end of a dock where yer tall ship be moored fer trainin young lads to be high in the riggin. Pour away and tell us yer tall tale. HarborMaster
  23. Here is a few pics I just took real quik in the back yard to get you an idea of the differant things you can alter on your pattern..., sorry for the dark pics. If you make your own coat and modify it to your liking youll probably be better off. You can get everything to fit that way. This is my interpretation of my "Stolen govenors coat" I can use for dinner..,My black coats are for more gettin dirty an havin' fun., again its what you want.., this one has lots of swagger when you walk and big time cuffs. HarborMaster
  24. I have an idea Siren? Pirate size should be of no concern when it comes to wishes..,Savvy? There is but one wish for a pirate ., that be Treasure lass. For all else can be gotten if'n yer treasure is enough. Perhaps if the little Pirate is to outsmart the scurvy dawgs that are huntin him down as he is hidin'. And he is able to prepare a hidden long boat, load the treasure out to the long boat under the nose of the Dawgs as they are mislead to the other side of the island. Then the little pirate is able to raise a single sheet on the stolem long boat.., Slip past the Pirates Brig in the cover of darkness....,sail back to civilization..., send back the Kings Navy back to round up the marrooned dawgs..., ? What say you to that Siren ? :) HarborMaster
  25. Thats a tough one., If you found a coat in a black or brown it was already innaccurate., Sparrows was a dirty blue.., also there were 7 buttons per side on the tail alone for trim...., my own coat with 44 buttons and shipping is 75.00 right there without the coat!!! A good one will cost more than 75.00 I have 3 coats all a little differant 2 black coats ( a Poly/Cotton non shrinking tough material and the other a denim) And a blue one ( Heavy upolstery Velvet with lots of trim HUGE cuffs and Gore) My experience is between 220.00 and 350.00 I guess it depends on what you really want.,Consider this My Velvet is Hot to wear., the denim will fade and the poly/cotton is a little limp.., more often than not I find myself taking the coat off ...., a good pair of pants a shirt sash and a great hat will go a long way!!! There are good patterns from Simplicity that are close and can be modified from there. Finding someone to make it for you with modifications may be the answer. I found that you need to add lots of gore (extra material in the lower rear) to get the swagger you want...to be sparrow accurate...., as well as bigger cuffs than most want to make.., but these things help to animate you into a character Goodluck HarborMaster
