  1. Aye matey ya might want ta scrounge up Roman Polanski's Pirates The 2 movie versions from the 1980s of Pirates of Penzance would be a good find too. One starred Linda Ronstadt and was actually called Pirates of Penzance. The other had Rex Smith and Kristy McNicole (remember them??) and was actually titled The Pirate Movie. Me mind recalls that it had a cool Captain and a great "opening shantey". Best o' luck to ye on yer quest!!
  2. Theres a mixture of reasons to make it so attractive. I do think that in the immediate present, the fact that mainstream media artistry has deemed Pirates as "cool" helps. There was another posting somewhere that mentioned the movies and how some years ago, when Pirate based movies weren't so popular, you only had, at the same time, a scattering of Pirate crews around the country. Now you have swarms of them and the numbers are growing, here in the wake of one of the greatest Pirate based movies ever made. And you also have other movies/books that have shown us that our own imaginations can go a long way, such has the Lord of The Rings and Harry Potter Series'. Its like we can almost relate to the fantasy and imagination in those movies, as well as POTC, that have given us a reason to have an interest in creativity like this, that even such big movies like Star Wars and Indiana Jones (as incredible as they were) did NOT do. Years ago I liked Pirates, I read about them, I liked the POTC ride at Disney, but not until more recently did I ever think of creating my own Pirate persona. Plus you look at all the successful Pirate Festivals there are now. Years ago there were only a few. Plus you had some Pirates as characters at Ren Fairs (like the one I saw at the Sterling, NY Ren Faire.) Now you have all kinds of festivals that give people a chance to go and develop their Piratical personae. And of course theres the internet with sites like this where we can develop with others too, right on the spot. All of it contributes to what we do as creative artists in relation to Pirates. Here's to ye all mateys!!
  3. Cheers to ya Capt. William for telling us that. Now I will be looking for mine. Thanks!!
  4. That's cool they be plannin a tv special for the guy. I used to watch him all the time on many different stations that carried his toons back when I was a wee little sandpiper. I don't think he's really been on in years. Hey does anybody remember the "Red Barn" fast food franchize and the Popeye glasses they had back in the 70s?
  5. :) Aye let us hope it doesn't rain m'lass for you will be most lovely in it!!
  6. I think next year, regardless of WHERE the Super Bowl is, and what teams are in it, that they should book the The Jolly Rogers and put an all out bulletin for any Pirate (the first 1000 to register) to come and be in the Super Bowl Halftime Pirate Extravaganza Invasion 2005!!
  7. Yesterday I checked out bilgemunky.com and checked out one of the links. It linked me to an unofficial site of the POTC ride at Disneyland. I checked out that site and when I was done, I linked again to a site called Yesteryear that talked about rides and attractions that are no longer functioning at Disneyland. I went to Disneyland once when I was a mere cabin boy of 14 back in 1982. (Been to Florida more often) At that time Fantasyland was under total refurbishment, except for It's a Small World. On the Yesteryear site, it mentioned a restaurant that existed in Fantasyland up until this refurbishment, called the Pirate Ship. It was literally a Pirate Ship (I'm assuming, given where it was in the park, that it was Hook's from Peter Pan) and pictures showed people dining on the deck. I cry it a shame that Disney threw it to the sharks when they re-did Fantasyland. Is there anybody who went there when this restaurant still set sail? Was it totally cool? Was the food any good?
  8. Smeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -Captain Hook
  9. Yah I went and tried it and even got on to the website www.robscape.com Check out me topic elsewhere in Pirate Pop
  10. Also got the skeleton bobblehead too and didn't realize it was POTC till it came in the mail. Port Royal Trading Co. sells both the skeleton and the Pirate ones. Tori, where did you get all the POTC stuff (like the clothes if not from Hot Topic, because they are the only place I have seen any POTC clothes since Disney has not licensed very much)??
  11. Ahoy Pirata! The Pirates Booty itself is like a puffed rice/pop corn. Kinda like a cheese curl but in a popcorn shape and flavor, that just melts in your mouth (without the kernel part to get stuck in your teeth). Its cheddar cheese flavor and there are also a number of other flavors now too. I think they also have a snack that IS a corn chip. The best way to find out all the flavors is the website robscape.com
  12. Aye Mateys!! Anybody on board ever try Pirate Booty? Its like a popcorn and there are varios flavors. Robs American snacks puts it out. You can check out the site at www.robscape.com to see a list of all the snacks, to even order some online and also get a Pirates Booty tshirt!! Happy eatin!!
  13. POTC tshirt from the ride and I also have the old souvenir book and slide set from the ride back in the 80s
  14. Yah I grew up in the Buffalo area but no longer live there. No surprise ye be hard to find much Piracy happenin there. I've recently learned that the so called Pirate Festival NEAR there isn't really much of a Pirate Festival per-say. Good luck in your mission to find somebody.
  15. A toast to all ye mateys who made it possible and 21 cannons to follow!!
  16. Yah I've seen it. I THINK it's a chip or rice cake type of snack. All I know is that I always see it in the health/sugar-and sodium free section of the grocery store. :)
  17. Yah its a shame Disney didn't put out shirts and stuff. I have a totally kewl POTC shirt that celebrates the ride. I bought it at Disney (of course) back in 97. They should follow their own example of selling stuff for the ride by selling stuff for the movie. WHY DIDN'T McDees have their usual bunch of stuff? They put out all that stuff for Haunted Mansion and that film flopped BIG!!
  18. Cross breed em with a bilge rat!!
  19. Yah I know most Pirates tended to pillage and plunder in warmer climates. But were there any who spent good portions of time raiding during the cold of winter? Were there any who stayed or sailed in colder areas during winters?
  20. The Adventure Prize, and didn't he leave it half full of H2O? What was the name of the Moorish ship that he escaped from the half full Adventure Prize on? Much respect to ye Captain Morgan as we posted at the same time.
  21. About 3 months. How old was Gasparilla when he was first made an Admiral?
