And the other day it sold at auction again to another proud owner (didn't quite fit the first)

This swab is decently trained
-
For those interested I will be bringing a new large blunderbuss. 90 cal, bronze barrel, cannon muzzle, silver lockplate, bronze swivel mount. I will also have a left handed knee gun among other items to display over by the cannons.

For the pirate gathering we stayed at the historic inn, its across the bridge but still close and the price was in the range of $60 a night making it affordable.
-
Port Royal Bucc were there in Key Largo and had nothing to do the unsafe cannon crew I saw.
-
Hard to believe but it was in Key Largo, the Viceroy's and my home. Neither of us were involved, He left and I stayed as a member of the crowd to observe safety. After describing what transpired we both wanted a video of what happened to show others as to what not to do. Neither of us were asked to work the event

Today I went to our local pirate fest and decided not to fire any guns as I felt the safety stand point was questionable and would rather not be a part of that. I was able to view the firing of a cannon that to say the least was unsafe. I tried my best to find a "rule" that was not broken and try as I might I have been unable whether it was using a lighter to light it, no swabbing, walking in front of a loaded gun, bringing spectators around the gun, firing small arms over the gun while loading powder, the list is endless including DRINKING while loading and shooting. I wish I had had a video to capture a perfect example of what not to do, and to think this was at a public event. There thats off my chest now.

I am getting ready to have some clothes made and will probably need to come up with my own fabric. The clothes should be befitting someone of a governors status so very very nice. Any advice on where or what material I should be looking at? Currently I am thinking about a heavy possibly Thai silk in a single color.

When will you be drawing names?

The rain didn't coperate, it stopped.

Weather depending I am going to try to get a picture today in garb firing my blunderbuss catching the flash on video once Sansanee gets off work. Hopefully it will keep raining till then.

I haven't purchased from them, what I have I cast with the Viceroys assistance in loaning me his master pattern and its in bronze. I can only imangine how loud my piece would be with a double load of 2oz, I get pleanty of noise with 1 oz.
-
Ive managed to upload a few of the pictures I have. Somehow I lost 3/4 of them but what I have may jog some memories
-
I try to keep 1,2,3 and 4f on hand. I typically use 3f in my small arms down the barrel and the pan and 2f for my cannon since its small (1 inch bore). Hern makes some good safe cannons if you want an iron gun.
-
Talking with Lawrence, how Crudbeard has his table displaying various cannon projectiles etc the thought has been that I will have one near his displaying small arms. I hope to have the double barrel knee gun blunderbuss, the espignol, and various others to display.
-
I will be working the cannons with Crudbeard and the viceroy which will leave me with multiple weapons available to use and you are somebody I can trust to use one. You should be able to use the Spanish blunderbuss (Isabella) or the new espignol (large blunderbuss with swivel yoke) if you would like something larger. They do use a fair bit of powder (220 grains in the smaller Spanish Buss), I also have a few smaller pistols. I may be able to help you out with tentage as well.

I apologize for being a bit rash in my decision to not be part of the fort. I have had some time to rethink things and we decided that we will be part of the fort so if you would be so kind as to include Sansanee and Swab into Pirates of the Dark Rose (we will be assisting with all the cannon fire) We would apperciate it. In you planning if you could also make room for a small tent between Crudbeard and the Viceroy I would apperciate it.

A while back (cant remember how long ago or where it was posted) there were some pictures posted of an original coat, vest, and breeches that were just past GAoP. They were a shade of brown and there was some excellent detail of the pockets, flaps, most everything. Can anybody help me find them again please

A good hardwood that is resistant to bugs, the last thing you want is termites in your carriage of which I've seen a couple

toss my name in please -
Wow, who have you been talking to? While it is true that we have to stand gate duties, that has been in effect for the past several years. No one is being asked to pick up others trash or clean bathrooms. Everyone is responsible for their own trash, just like last year and it is the responsibility of the members of the encampment to keep their area's presentable for the public. That's just common sense. As for the registration fee, we fully understand that this fee is upsetting. However, it's always been the policy at Fort Taylor to charge participants for events. Civil War Days charges $5.00 per day. Since this is a non camping Park, the cost of having us there increases the man power and the Park cannot afford it. We have been fortunate over the years to not be charged this fee and they agreed to only charge $5,00 for the entire weekend. Unfortunately, in this economy, they felt that it was necessary to bring this event in line with all the other events currently being hosted at the Park. This fee helps to cover the cost of the extra man hours, insurance, black powder, etc. It is not unprecedented for events to charge a participant fee. I'm sorry that you feel this fee is unreasonable and that it's preventing your participation to this event. Naturally everyone is responsible for their own trash and I felt the jobs associated were fair for those camping. As for not being asked to do trash or bathrooms I seem to remember sign ups last year for gate duty, picking up general area, bathroom detail, and trash detail. I was under the understanding that these duties were to offset our being able to use the fort. As for performing living history demonstrations which started last year in addition that seemed to be understandable as part of reinacting. In gratitude of friends of the fort I have spent over $100 and countless hours building a small pistol that could be auctioned off to help so it isnt about not being able to afford $5. As for the status of the economy and being hard on people I would rather not talk on that topic. I think it would be a much better idea to pass a hat or use a portion of auction proceeds to help with the event if money is short.

Having more time I can better participate this year

You can remove Sansanee and Swab from the list, we will be in town for the entire week. If we come by the fort most likely it will be as patrons and not reinactors. Bringing all of our gear down cannons, muskets, tent, etc to benefit the event is one thing. Doing presentations for the public another, yet understandable when camping in the fort. Coupling that with additional duties such as standing guard duty, picking up others trash, cleaning bathrooms and then being asked to pay for the privilege of doing all of this something else regardless of the amount.
