  2. I met a vendor at a Medieval faire this weekend with REALY COOL goggles. They were almost 100 bucks a pair though. Too rich for my blood, but they gave me some design ideas... Anyway... He said this years DragonCon was Steam punk, and I wanted to let you know. There were a few Steam Punk kids at the Medieval Faire walking around too. It's really a growing trend. They looked quite fantastic too. Anyway regarding DragonCon I tried to verify the information about the theme, but couldn't find the theme on their website. He seemed like a connected guy. He's working the thing, so I figured he should know. He makes leather goods. I don't think he has a website. If he does I'll try and get his name when I see him next weekend
  3. awww poor Patwick is you feawin misunderstood?? (cradles his widdell head) I know... I know.... you didn't say Girl Haters Club... I didn't say Man Haters Club .... I said Girly Girl Man Haters Club... thats kind of like saying Manly Man Lovers in a double negative, what i say is not what I mean, kind of way --- like you didn't know that about women YET?? .. awweeeeee... poooor Patrick --I was merely paying homage to one of my favorite all boys clubs of the past. PPPTHHTHhthththhhth so get over it NO BOYS allowed! ppththththththhhh:P (beans Patrick with a pillow and runs out the door. )
  4. Like I said all men that enter are fair game! LOL I'm enjoying this tread..glad you gals are too, and thanks for bringing all the goodies...(takes a swig of rum and passes the bottle while waiting for her Absinthe to finish dripping ) Speaking of Master and Commander would someone please knock this guys block off LOL what the heck is that about LOL Ok who thought that would be a HOT shot I bet that was before he had a publicist - I have to admit I really prefered him in a skirt Then of course without a shirt.. was not so bad either....
  5. oh that smell? some stinky boy came in here. hey lets play "Mystery Date" NOT!!! lol <hits Black Syren with a pillow> I like the idea of that game LOL MASTer and COMMANDer LOL. kinda like cowboys and indians only more fun! ooo ooo We could play Charlies Angels..... I wanna be Kelly.... hey I brought ice cream, who wants some.
  6. and NO this isn't for man bashing..I don't hate men.... I love them... "the man haters club" is a reference to the Little Rascals "He-Man Woman Haters Club" best I could come up with at such short notice in response to Patrick.
  7. Ok HOW COULD I RESIST!! in response to Patricks Man Club post. I thought it only appropriate to start this is to make sure we have equal representation and a place where we can let our hair down, since Patrick decided to start a place where boys could be boys I figured it only fair to give us a place where girls could be girls. NAKED PILLOW FIGHT!! : teee heee:------ YEAH right LOL ppppppttthththh knew you were watching ya buggers Ok girls now for OUR rules. There are none!! but we already knew that. Right girls?? We know its inevitable that at some point boys will see a room full of girls and will attempt to come in and try and flex their muscles. Ladies these men are free "game" however you wish to interpret the word. This is a place to speak your mind. A place where you have the right to "cut loose", chatter on incessantly about things that BOYS think are ridiculous... like.... well whatever we want to talk about.. but mostly its a place to do what ladies do best when the guys aren't around... TALK DIRT about them!! So boys if you can't take the heat,... well ...stay outta the kitchen. If ya think you can handle the heat... well then prepare to sweat cause it WILL get hot in here.
  8. metinks after seeing that last photo '' I see why he needs a continuous supply of new hats''.
  9. not to mention this one A quite different HAT game LOL
  10. Nice to know my character is not in question I was caught completely unawares!! That Stynky is a scoundrel ;D -- I can testify to that. (Mission that was hilarious)
  11. Dogge, Maybe ....we should divide this or start two separate threads, one thats sword fighting schools that teach the real thing like Hawkyns is discussing, and one for staged choreographed dramatic fights. If thats the way you wanna take this particular tread we'll leave this a discussion about all the different techniques and schools there are out there ...I'm fine with that. I really would still like to see a thread where we could get a few of the theatrical groups who want to work together on the same page. If anyone is interested in working towards that. Hawkyns, I would never presume to exclude anyone from performing their art or skill. I understand there are many schools of thought where this is concerned. in my opinion all of the arts, martial or theatrical are only as good as the artists. You are obviously serious about your art, and I respect that. I hope you can respect my goal of wanting to allow groups to work together towards the best performance they can achieve.
  12. One of the few things I do know how to sew by hand. I couldn't figure out how to do it on the machine LOL. I use embroidery thread and I sew with more than one strand so i don't have to make so many stitches. Funny I've done this with regular clothes since I was a kid. I guess I'm going to be sewing lots of little button holes as I'll be sewing eyelets for the stays. So i have a question about that. being as the ties put more demand in the fabric than a button, do you have to do anything additional to the fabric around the hole to reenforce the fabric when sewing an eyelet?
  13. bumping this up for those who missed it.
  14. Thanks Silkie. Sorry guys didn't mean to stir things up. I was just getting frustrated over all the "CAN'T BE DONE". I'm sorry if my feathers got ruffled, but I was insulted by an implication that those who don't take a martial arts approach to this aren't as authentic, nor as serious about what they are doing. It takes as much discipline to pull a strike as it does to land one. The intent of this thread I started was to find a common system for those taking the theatrical approach to this not the martial arts types. Guess I wasn't specific enough in my initial post.
  15. Hawkyns sorry to say this, but i'd be concerned about bringing your group to one of my events. Personally... real fighting creates a liability. I'd worry if your philosophy got out, or if people knew the fighting was real.. some drunk idiot would want to join in, because hey if its a fight its a fight who needs training. I appreciate groups who make an announcement that this is theater, and not real fighting and the fighters are professional actors do not try this without the proper training it can still be very dangerous. No disrespect, but people fighting and getting hurt makes it difficult for everyone. Its getting to where you have to show proof not only of personal medical insurance but that your group has insurance against any potential crowd injury. Why you'd want to risk injuring your mates i'll never understand. And thanks Jib... I agree this is for entertainment. ! great photos of that fight JIB! What an awesome theater too
  16. Nikki, darling girl!! I can hardly wait to read your account. It was so very much fun playing pirate with you, last year a blunderbuss next year CANNON! And we need to get you your own hat..though you looked fabulous in Stynky's. ohh and singing you did... you chaps need to hear her lovely voice, so pure... she's certainly a sweet sultry syren.
  17. People have to be decent actors for this to work of course. I understand that a lot of rehearsal can make a fight so fluid it doesn't look real. Still it seems to me a lot of you are agreeing that the fights should be more like real fights - are you trying to say that you choose to really fight to go at each other without any choreography. I'm sorry but to me that seems dangerous and foolish. No set moves and swinging steel?? I understand your theory that too much rehearsal looks rehearsed. Just my opinion but I think its up to the actor to make a fight look authentic. I agree with MD that fights need to be character driven or they will definitely look like a system. But thats the actors job when approaching the choreography, its to know how their character would move and what their character might engage and what might make them hesitant or even run. For example I mean Nell would never fight like Scarlett Jai, Nell would fight though, I mean I run a pub in a rough part of town. I'd be more likely to throw something at ya then pull a blade. Still I might pull out a dagger and surprise ya. and even Nigel and Dead-eye have totally different styles they're body types are different and it shows when they move. Anyway I agree that sometimes too much confidence in movement thats rehearsed looks unrealistic. I know what your talking about, but, a little bit of speed here and though really impresses an audience. They are thrilled by it. I've heard them explode in applause. Ok so the flash may not always be authentic looking. But hey sometimes we all love a good Jed Lee movie.
  18. .WOW thats incredible! here it is on YouTube just incase the MSN link is gone tomorrow
  19. I love Aiden.. what a great name. I laughed at Sonny Beach especially when you add the Greek accent how did I miss that one LOL!!!
  20. ok the seams have me completely baffled. This is where the fact that i'm NOT a seamstress shows (oop now i know why they use that term I guess that separates the pro from the amateur. Anyway, I just sew stuff together. I'm completely confused by the instruction on the flat felted thingy. Is this to hide the raw edges where the pieces are joined and keep things from unraveling? and if I'm looking at it right, won't that mean the stitches on the seams will show on the outside. So if I'm right that means they won't be hidden, so no shortcut and machine stitch ... bugger all!
  21. oohhh..LOL....always keep em guessing.... thats what I like about ya Captain ..
  22. Well, I am hoping not too heavy. I do plan to dance in it at ReenactorFest V. You've got me thinking though, RustyNell. I do remember running to the hallway with Matty Bottles, another one of our fine crewe, and catching the cold winter breezes from the hallway when someone went outside to cool off. Hmm...velvet and fur....(What the heck am I thinking?!) You're thinking it will be gorgeous! Beauty is pain. I can't wait to see photos
