  1. ROTFLMAF! Oh gawd, Capt. Swan, my sides hurt......laughing so hard, my parrot is even laughing with me........
  2. That's awesome! Oooooooh I want one!
  3. Yup, when I was watching the trailer teaser for the new Zorro film, I immediatly reconized the POTC music!
  4. Excellant! I wish more would do that. When most people think of Buccaneers they think of a pirate with the big bucket boots.
  5. I too question the Jolly Roger being associated with the Knights of the Templar. It's the first I've heard of it. I'd like to know where this source(s) of information comes from and what true history there is to back it up.
  6. Ok, here's the list of libraries and Institutions that are acknowledged in the book. The Public Archives of Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Prince Edwards Island, Ontario, Saskatchewan and British Columbia and Glenbow Institute. Public Archives of Massachesetts, National Library of Canada, British Public Records Office, the Arts Library, University of Waterloo, Gosling Memorial Library, St. John's, the Conception Bay Museum, Harbour Grace, the Maritime Museum, Boston, the Newfoundland Historical Society, Metropolitan Toronto Police Museum, Library of Congress; Confederation Life Art Collection, Toronto. Remington Art Museum, Odensburn, New York, the New Your Historical Society, New Yor Central Library and the Public Libraries of Metropolitan Toronto, Owen Sound, Sault Ste, Marie :(Ontario), Kitchener, Hanover and Goderich. I could not find a source for just Cobham, but I suspect any place on the eastern shores of Canda, hence Newfoundland/Nova Scotia would be where the information is.
  7. Ok, here's what is says in the book (pg. 102-105), just a bit edited for length. Eric Cobham was born in Poole, one of the Channel ports of England and went to sea as a boy. Possibly worked in the Newfoundland fisheries at the age of 14/15, but by his late teens he was a member of a smuggling gang running brandy from France to England. He was caught at the age of 19 and sent to Newgate prison where he was there for about two years. Upon his release he got a job working at an Inn in Oxford. He succeeded in robbing wealthy men. The innocent innkeeper was hanged for theft while Cobham moved south to Plymouth and bought a small ship. In Plymouth he met Maria Lindsey and stayed with her the rest of his life. Shortly after they met they enlisted a fresh crew of renegades and sailed for Nantucket. They took their first ship there and went north and discovered the supply route to Quebec, where money going upriver and furs coming downriver provided a virtually untouched area by other pirates. There's more, but I'm not going to type it all in.
  8. I have a book called, "Pirates and Outlaws of Canada, 1610 to 1932", by Harold Horwood and Ed Butts. (I found it when I was in Toronto, last Sept.) I've seen it offered at Amazon.com You'll find a number of pirate stories in it regarding piracy around Nova Scotia and Eastern Canada. Unfortunately it's not all about pirates, there's stuff about people who were outlaws on land too. There's not a whole lot on piracy in Nova Scotia, but it certianly was there! Not knowing where you live, but if you are up in that area, I'm sure there's libraries that would have more information on piracy there. Hope I've been of some help.
  9. Uh, no haven't done that kind of patterning. I've cut up a lot of paperbags though....
  10. My dear Phil, manic-depressive is a difficult thing in itself. I hope you are seeing a doctor and getting medication. If not, please do so, it will improve your life dramatically. I'm not manic-depressive, but I am on medication because of being a depressed person, and let me tell you, without, I'd be the biggest damn bitch anybody ever saw! I like the way I am now. I can smile, laugh, and enjoy life.
  11. I tried to use hair sticks with my hair and they don't work. I had to use bobby pins to hold my hair in place. But I see gals all the time with them, lucky them, and lucky you Duchess.
  12. Oh yes, I attempted to try it on....just too small. I'm built kind of out of sorts due to back situation (one shoulder higher, one hip higher, due to scoliosis), but I did like Pendragon's items. Very pricey though. I actually found a really nice bodice at Southern Faire this year, that my companion bought me. I haven't worn it yet, but will shortly as there are a ton of events coming up in August. What is really great is the fact that not only does it fit me perfectly, I now have perfect bodice to make a pattern from that will work better than the pattern I bought to make bodices many years ago where I've had to fiddle with the sides because they don't match up.
  13. Are you sure it's a Renaissance faire? Sounds more like an SCA event. Quite a few SCA events have people selling items and fighting tournements.
  14. You're right, I've never heard anything about it. I grew up in Long Beach and I know exactly where the park is. How strange, anyone else know about this faire?
  15. No Jamaica/Christine Lampe is not one of the organizers. Her husband Michael Lampe is. Michael and Tom Wilson who runs the regular Corona faire during the spring are the Top People. It was Michael's idea after being disgusted by so-called pirate fairs with a Queen Elizabeth as head; to do what PRP has wanted to do for many, many years. Have a Pirate Court! The group Rogue's Cove out of Las Vegas will be heading the Court as they have been regulars at Tom's faires. Let's all make this the best Pirate Faire there ever has been! Huzzah!
  16. Well Deigo, for someone bitching about 'guests' on Rabble Rousing, I have a right to express my opinion. Yes I use to go to every damn fair around, but I got burnt out. And by the way there's no H in my name! Also we have a members in PRP who also work that faire so I know lots more than you think I do. Hmmmmffffff!
  17. No camping except for participants I believe, or that might have changed too and no camping at all. They are strictly Renaissance and want nothing to do with pirates or have any pirate groups in their midsts. I know, I checked with them, when PRP was wanting to know. Course that doesn't mean you can't invade them as paying guests and be pirates! Ha! I know I won't be there, as that weekend is already booked elsewhere for me. When I went last year, it was HOT and shade trees there's NOT! The few measly trees there are really crowed with people trying to stay cool. I also noted while there were some vendors there I hadn't seen elsewhere, the prices for things were far and above most of what is sold at the other faires. If you go, bring $$$, even for food.
  18. Bing Crosby (creator of the Del Mar race track, in case any of you didn't know that fact)
