  1. Actually that's not true, Wiley the publisher for those Dummies books, came to Gail and asked her to write the book. Well ok, she's done a number of presentations regarding pirates here and there, and she wrote a bodice ripper years ago (now out of print), but still she was asked, she didn't ask them.
  2. One thing I am aware of is I have been re-incarnated several times, not just the one mentioned. But I do feel the basic idea has been the same.
  3. Many of you have said you found the Pub via other links. I'm curious as to what links on what sites you found us.
  4. WHOA! THIS IS TRULY REMARKABLE, AND SO TRUE! I don't know how you feel about it, but you were female in your last earthly incarnation. You were born somewhere in the territory of modern Greenland around the year 1725. Your profession was that of a dancer, singer or actor. Your brief psychological profile in your past life: Ruthless character, carefully weighing her decisions in critical situations, with excellent self-control and strong will. Such people are generally liked, but not always loved. The lesson that your last past life brought to your present incarnation: Your lesson is to study, to practice and to use the wisdom that lies within the psychological sciences and in ancient manuscripts. With strong faith and hard work you will reach your real destiny in your present life.
  5. There were also another side of pirates called Privateers. These were people with Letters of Marque (pronounced Mark), that England, Spain, France and a few lesser countries had under their 'mark' of the throne who gained prominence by doing what is sometimes called, 'legal piracy'. The piece of paper from the ruler of the country gave the Captain(s) of the ships the 'right' to take ships and their cargo back to their countries. Besides, Under the Black Flag by David Cordingly that has already been mentioned, here's a short list of books I highly recommed for reading if you can find them at the library or purchase: The Complete Idiot's Guide to Pirates by Gail Selinger World History Pirates-Terror on the High Seas from the Carribbean to the South China Sea-consulting editor- David Cordingly Piracy- Days of Long Ago by Kenneth W. Mulder Pirates of the Pacific by Peter Gerhard The Pirates Own Book-Authentic Narrratives of the Most Celebrated Sea Robbers by the Marine Research Society Bold in Her Breeches- Women Pirates Across the Ages, edited by Jo Stanley A History of Pirates- Blood and Thunder on the High Seas by Nigel Cawthorn Pirates & Outlaws of Canada 1610-1932 by Harold Horwood and Ed Butts Crossroads of The Buccaneers by H.DeLeeuw The Pirate Trial of Anne Bonney and Mary Read by Tamara J. Eastman and Constance Bond (*Special note here: Tamara is a direct descendant of Anne Bonney) So I hope this will help you and anyone else reading this and want to know what books are worth the read.
  6. Incorrect! There's LOTS of factual historical accounts in plenty of books on the market, found in museums, forts, and libraries and there's plenty of resources abound. Just as you re-create your ancestor's dances and lore, we re-create the lore that has been passed down to us. It's just done in different ways, but the ends are the same. Some go all out as you do and follow literally everything 'by the book', (course that depends on what book...), and there are others who simply want to have fun and do so. That's why Renaissance Faires and Pirate Faires throughout areas of the USA exist. If there was no interest there wouldn't be anyone. There is certianly an interest in Indian Pow-Wows, well it's the same with us.
  7. ^came into the Pub on Sat. morning when I was the only other person here.
  8. Probably kept in the garage all the time and only brought out for special occassions.
  9. Sad. Sad that this computer virus here at the Pub has ruined many computers and made people very angry.
  10. Though I'm a cat lover myself, I don't see them on board ships. Though perhaps a few might have been.
  11. (chuckle- what I'd like to do to the guy who virused the Pub) I know the Lady Washington, The Californian, and the Lynx well. Thanks, it helps to know these things when writing a book.
  12. What would happen to the weight of the ship if larger ones were installed?
  13. If you can, put a block on the sender. They'll get bounced back to the person who is doing this.

    Cannons

There's lots of different size cannons around. But I'd like to know what type would be used on a gaff rigged or sloop during the GAoP?
