I got an email today from a close friend that has a large beard and is sick of it. He wanted to style/shave it in a unique way that would have been period for the GAOP. I thought it was a good enough question to pass on to the pros here. I myself have wondered. I often grow my beard out for events, but it would be fun to play around a bit more. I have seen some re-enactors out there with chops and of course some french pirates with the old handlebar. Are there any specific nonos for GAOP facial hair?

BTW. Here is a picture of my friend Jeweles that was in the episode. Anyone else spot him? He is the one on the far right next to me.

Hey if you guys could nail down a standard for a minimum kit for said events, I would love to get it published in Pirates Magazine for you. We could do a little one pager on it. Could be a good start for getting Pyracy.com in the mag. Maybe we could then do a one pager each issue and elaborate on certain articles of the kit. I say lets do this!

That is def doable. We already do a 7" version of that dagger that I think will meet your discription. I can always use leatherwork. Scabbards are always a need for my buisness. I love leather stuff but I never mess with it other then for handles on my swords. Sounds like it would be wurth talking terms.

FYI I started a build thread for D.Man's Knife over in the Armoury if you wish to check that out.

I do like that. Can't hurt to have a few choices. What would you like in trade for that? A silver ring perhaps?

As some of you have seen, I have started a trade thread in the market and Mr D.Man has taken me up on it. I am making him a bowie knife in trade for some gear that he had. I asked him if it would be cool for me to start a build thread on his knife so here it goes! First we have to cut the blade blank out. Here we will use our CnC plasma table to cut the blank out of some alloy. The piece of alloy that we will use for the knife is the negative left over fromus cutting out our huggggggge leaf blades a few years back. We try to use up every little piece of metal that we canand the rest gets used for damascus billets. Here is a short video of our CnC cutter making the blade blank. To the left of where the plasma was cutting you can see one that it had just cut out and to the right you can see a finished blade that we used for setting up the cut. From here I will sand a unique profile to the blade and then grind the edge bevels. I try to pull the flase edge back a bit or do something to make each of these bowies a bit differently shaped. It gives each knife a indivisual feel and look so that there are not hundreds of the same knife out there.

You can now change your language from English it English Pirate! Click down on the bottom left of your profile page where it says "English" and then click "English (Pirate)" in the box that pops open. Have fun!

Sweet! I can do anything you want with them then. You pick. They both should be doable. Even if I have to make a special cutlass blade to fit.

I was down there in Feb and took some good close up shots of all the equipment in the shop. I will dig them up and post them ASAP. If I come down next time for PIP you guys got to let me forge a sword there. I will get a PC kit just for that oppertunity.

Also be sure to stop in at the Age of Chivalry booth and see some of my new cutlasses. I sent a few with the first eagle head pommels out there this week and a new product for us....the Rondel! Tell them 1stMateMatt sent you.

Search on google for free font packs. There are tons out there.

Any idea on how they are mounted? Can you take them apart or are they welded to the blade?
-
Hey I have worked with Lars plenty in the past and I know his work well. I would be happy to remount your sword with a cutlass blade. I could even work with Lars on it if needed.
-
Smart idea! Thanks for the post!

I have heard of sailers using rapiers with shortend blades. I have also seen rapier hilts remounted with saber blades. Often you find re-mounted rapiers with all sorts of blades. I would say that is it historicaly feezable, but many would disagree with me.

Nice. I want one!

Sword Suggestions and other hanging questions

Yea I always liked your style. One of these days I should put up a tutorial on a few methods for making clamshells. It is a lot easier then most people make it. -
Glad we won! I think the episode was entertaining. I thought it was hilarious that one of the guys that just spent a weekend with us here in Baltimore showed up as part of the pirate crew. Much like he did in all of our baltimore photos, Jeweles just seemed to pop up here and there in the crew scenes. He is the one with the long whitebeard... Anyway. Main thing that I think was unfair was how they tested the knights weapons without the guy being in full plate armor. I dont see how that is fair. Being a maker of armor I know that your movements are not restricted much, but come on...it wieghs you down a little. I think the results for the broad sword slice on the pigwould have been a bit different in full plate. Not as much of a baseball swing and they didnt even mention that he used two hands on the broad sword vr the one hand on the cutlass. I think when the grenade went off we were supposed to believe that the horse bit it. I still think the pirate should have just ran into the water and seen if the knight would chase... Neat show!

Well done Tignor! Needs some dirt on it, but you look great!
