  1. While running through WalMart Miami on the way down to PiP ~ (needed some black acrylic paint and a few art brushes)

In their crafts section, I found some lovely Thick soft polished hemp twines. I picked up 2 balls, and can't wait to re-knot my bottles. Sold in a ball, with a blue and white paper label identifying it as Fashion Cord. Not sure how the pricing compares to other vendors, but it was a see it-feel it-want it thing ~

  2. Ah, happy day! The spoon and perhaps the spoon-tip knife (I swore I had packed it, but can't find it now to get all the flatware back together) may be mine, if there are no markings on them.

  3. Good Morning, dearest Lady B!

The 2" Heeled Buckle Shoe is indeed still available ~ priced at $40 per pair. If you need them for RF, please try to let me know before the end of December ~ the holidays are sure to tweak my provider, and they are not as responsive as I would like sometimes.

    YHS,

  4. Thanks for keeping an eye out ~ as the spoon was just purchased at PiP from Greg, I didn't have time to put any marks on it.

The napkin and spoon were most likely mislaid in our camp ~ the handkerchief at RF.

Rats ~ I haven't seen the wooden porridger, though I recall seeing it around camp.

  5. I won't be able to make it, and I expect this will continue to be the case until I change professions ~ Spring is simply too busy in the green industry.

    Have fun!

We'll have another Santa Maria event in September (Talk Like a Pirate Day weekend).

    Mark

Thank you for the update ~ I will keep an eye out for it.

  6. The issue with Mark being so shy is the fact that that he is so darn good looking. To each his own. I would much rather have his company and no photos than not having his company. I dare say he would make a very attractive Fop also but again, Mark in street clothes is better than no Mark at all. The only thing better may be Mark in no clothes at all but I will leave that for Mary to keep to her self. :D

:D:o:o Love my hubby!! Clothes stictly optional. And him in Fop would be one seriously pissed off Fop. You'd probably see the wig winging out the tent, hanging from the top of the salt pines like airborne roadkill.

Though, as luck would have it, he may tolerate me making a coat for him, due to the cool temps this year.

  7. And muchas smooches back. My dear, methinks you are the one blushing. I'd swear you're overcoming whatever shyness you claim to have. Pretty soon you'll be kissing Cross. :D:o

:o:D I am better with friends and people I have been around before, my dear! Just ask poor Oderlesseye ~ such a patient man!

  8. Nicely done, Wayland, an interesting technique!

Thank you also to Quartermaster James and Coastie04 for the tip on walnut oil and beeswax ~ as I delve further into woodworking and food-related items, I was wondering what other food-safe finishes are available aside from cutting board oil.

  9. I bought Mark a Swedish steel for his backpacking Christmas present before we left ~ and at PiP bought flint and steel for myself from Greg... Now to practice ~ Is char cloth period? Having luck with the spark, but getting it to catch is another matter entirely.

mary, did you "cook" the charcloth correctly ?? it is period as far as i know... i bought a set, and am able to get the charcloth to get an ember on one or two swipes of the flint...

a little practice and i had it down... but capt. jim seems to be the authority on this one :)

Hi Silas! No, we haven't had/made/tried char yet ~ was trying it straight on dry grasses and fluff. Great sparks, but none caught. Granted, we only tried for about 20 minutes ~ not enough time pre-PiP!

Yes linen is PC, but also remember that linen rags were a valuable commodity as they made print-stock from them,(why magazines and journals are still referred to as "rags"), so other forms of tinder should be considered as well. Read the article I provided as to proper charring technique. I use dried aromatic cedar bark as it is in endless supply here. Dried and "fluffed" and mixed within the jute twine I use for ignition tinder it works well, though not as fast as linen char. You can also char the punk-wood the same way as the linen. This works well if you keep it from humidity and damp conditions.

    Bo

Thank you, Bo ~ I found the articles Very interesting ~ just haven't had time to put them into practice. Not as much aromatic cedar here, though at work we do sell bark mulch... maybe I will try some of that. Thanks for the great ideas!

  10. I have actually made it a very specific point not to mention my impending bday pre-PiP because, as you all know, I am very shy and retiring and try to avoid any potentially embarrassing situations while there.

    Well, in that case...

Mwah! A Happy Birthday cyber-kiss to make you blush in private. :D I hope you had a wonderful birthday! and sorry I am late in wishing you the very best.

  11. Ahoy All!

Hoping everyone has returned home safe and sound...

I am missing a few items from PiP, which may have gotten packed up with camp...

A new cast pewter spoon (tablespoon) from Greg/WH

    One dark brown linen napkin

    Also missing ~

My fine antique linen handkerchief, no lace trim, but beautiful embroidered white flowers on it (from Bawdy Be, our first PiP).

I would be most grateful if these items turn up!

  12. ...

    ...

STYNKY! You know my brain is mush! How could you go on like that and not let me know it was your birthday (hmmm, you know, that goes for Mission too!). Ahhh, well, I am only upset because I like you ~ would have been my pleasure to wish you a Very Happy Birthday in person. Now you will just have to wait until I see you next...
