So I made my first all linen shirt and I love it. I wish I would have made these from the beginning. So on to the questions. What would be the most appropriate way to close the sleeves and neck? Currently I have nothing on the neck and buttons for the sleeves. Would ties be more accurate? If so how long should they be? What kind of ties? I would try and sew up a couple of small tubes out of the same material.

Version 10 or 14. I know that the designs look nice and crisp on the computers but when you sew it or paint it gets nice and gritty. That what happened to my designs anyways. Here's a thought. Maybe we can get a bunch mass produced and be able to sell them to the public as keepsakes? I don't know might be a way to raise a little cash for PiP.

How about cracking the oar? Breaking the blade at one of the seams and using them as tent "poles"? Maybe they would keep them around for that use. Besides I like to "distress" stuff anyways.

Not to pull off topic here, but CRAP! Thats in the UK. I guess I won't be able to make it there for a awhile. Anything like that state side? Its hard to find decent patterned material here. I found a dicount fabric store and they have some stuff but I'd like to be more period with my fabrics when I can. I'm a bit scared. I don't think I want to know. -

OK where are you? I want to go there and shop. Just seeing the rolls and rolls of fabric behind you makes me drool. -

Well when I finished the garb for my crew going to PiP, I made a bunch of shoulder bags. Without any pockets in any of the clothing we needed somthing to carry our stuff in. Shoulder bag Not sure how acurate they might be but they suited our purposes well. I would love to find out what would work for the period. -
Man I need to catch up I havn't been on the ball. I'm at page 105 still. Well maybe this next gig I will have some time. Hope everyones holidays are good. See you at the port.

Jan. 20 & 27 Gasparilla Fest Its only 2 days, and they are spread apart. I hope you can make for PiP though. It would be nice!

I would have to say a couple of pistols and then a cutlass and axe or the last pistol. Maybe someday I'll get the chance to board a real ship. But for now do need to a flintlock pistol or 2.

Hey my post is the first. Don't I feel special. Good work Patrick!

"Freebooter" Jack (myself) Brig (My wife) Nea (My Mom) Robert (My Dad) So thats it tentatively for now, in the careening camp. If I can get in as a vendor we might just stay in our merchandise tent if that's allowed. But I want to have options if I get get "lazy"

Well, I certainly hope the fort gets its much needed face lift. Then maybe we can set up inside there some day. Maybe taking the whole encampment outside will work? If all the vendors are outside and the encampment is inside, I don't thinjk there will be much traffic inside. (or vise a versa) Just reserve the inside for the pub. Yes I brought down a whoole bunch of pyrates for this year. Although for next year I'm going to let everyone go on their own. It was just to much work, but never fear I will recruit as many as I can to come. (Besides were else are they going to wear such snazzy cothing ) As for the camp I certainly want to come and hopfully bring the parents along. They currently do 1850's, so the 1700's will be a nice change of pace for them. To Harry, I think I remember seeing that there was campers and tents set up away from the fort? or am I dreaming? Maybe some campsites could be made for those not involed with the encampment but participating?

Sounds to much like the other end of Duval st. Just kidding Greg, I mean no offense. I couldn't pass it up. Back on topic. I like the Damned Compass. It may be a little PoTC but that might be a good "hook" for the public. Help them start to relate to what we are presenting. The most exposure of pirates for the public has been those movies. It might just help. Just my 2 pieces of eight.

It won’t necessarily the heat but humidity. It was fricken sticky.

Yep, I can't wait for next year. We'll probably do the canvas and oar thing. I liked that idea. I plan on just buying a whole bunch of it and sewing it together. So I saw there wasn't a camp fire this year. Aside from it being blazingly hot was there any other reason for not having one? It would be a great smell to have in the fort. Oh, oh, my mom makes a great stew for putting over fire. She uses it for when she does interpertation out at Westville. Westville Homepage Her and my dad are planning on coming next year.

Aye, I didn't recogize you until I went looking through me pictures and saw you and I think Braze in one them. So, maybe next year, or later in another event. We certainly had fun.

Well, the event was a blast! My Entire crew had fun but I'll start out at the beginning. We were traveling down from Orlando on Thursday eve/ Friday morning. I was up all day Thursday getting or rental van umm... ship. Then the crew from Savannah arrived about 1:30 am. We got on the road around 2:30am. Arrive in Key West about 10 am and set up our camp. (We were not in the fort unfortunately.) Around 1300 we take off for the festival. We got there in time to see a redcoat single-handedly take the fort. That was a feat! Our crew and I hung around for a few more hours until I began to crash. We hit up the Publix on the way back and grab some vittles. Got back to our campsite and had a few drinks and food. I kinda over did it. Lets just say there was a mess on the ground the morning. So the crew begins to rouse and we get dressed and run off to breakfast. We decide to pillage the Denny's and invade. With twelve of us, it really did seem like an invasion. Our server was one of the best I'd seen. Without a pen or paper he got all our orders correct, for all twelve! So after that our ladies of the crew wanted to do a little shopping. So we swaggered down Duval Street. (Now that I think of it, we parked on "the other end of Duval St.") We ended up at Mallory Square and took some photos and let the ladies do some shopping. I and me boatswain, Mark, picked the ship. Drove..errr... sailed back and rescued the crew from marooning. We headed back to the festival. As soon as we walk in there was capt'n Jim recruiting as many of my crew as he could for the battle. Soon enough we head and begin waving our swords and shouting insults. Once the redcoats arrive, my first mate Brig takes a hit. I stoop down and begin pick her up for the rest of the battle. Afterwards "it tis but a flesh wound" and we go our merry way. Our crew runs out and grabs meal and supplies to return back to the fort. When we return the scene is spectacular. Everything is lit with candles or lanterns. I came strolling up to the archway and peer in. There is the pub. On me left there be the tap and down and to the right there be the tavern. The orange flickering glow of the lantern lights dances along the wooden table and benches. There is a wonderful candle lit chandler draped from the ceiling. Me and my crew snag a good corner to the right, next to one of the windows. They start up and good game of dice when Barnacle Beau shows up with guitar and mandolin. I had brought me tin whistle and harps (harmonicas). So we join up and start playing. Some of the other patrons began to join in singing. Barnacle Beau was generous and let Mark play the mandolin. (Mark was kicking himself for not bringing anything to play.) We played for about and hour and moved it outside due to the heat. It was just to warm inside the tavern. There we played and sang and had a good time. We called a night and got up the Sunday morning and packed up. It was a short trip but a fun one. My wife and I are coming back next year and this time we are camping in the fort. I will have a flintlock pistol or two. So I can join in on the fun. We had a great time and hope to everyone and more next year. Linky to some pictures!!

Yes its a shame me and my crew had to miss that. I would have loved to seen them. Alas there is always next year, I plan on staying in the fort this time. It will be nice to have to be capt'n of 12 next year. I will post the "Rooster Killers" story tonight. Stay tuned.

Aye, me and my crew had a fine time while we were there. I believe me and my wife are planning on camping in the fort next year. One suggestion is, if this hasn't been brought up yet, we need more redcoats. If it is a costume thing I would be willing to make 5 or so coats and pants. Something basic, just so some pirates can dress up for the battles and then go back to there regular grab later. I just need the patterns for the coats. Anyways we had a blast. I hope to come next year as a vendor. My wife and I are going full steam ahead with our business and hope to make PiP next year our grand opening as it were. So it was a pleasure meeting all of you and hope to see you there next year.
