I did not consider malaria as a threat. I donate blood on a regular basis and was not allowed to donate for 6 months after my trip to Thailand. I guess I will have to stop donating after a trip to the DR for malaria.

These socks are not just knee high .... oh no ... they're THIGH high!

The onion bottles are each about 7-1/2" tall and, of course, I can make a leather belt sling for 'em.

I have 2 of theses unique pitchers, they are are about 10-1/2" tall and probably weigh about 2 lbs. They are hefty.

Love that lower glass bottle! It looks rather 'suggestive'.

Could we say what a Just-au-corps is not by way of description? They were not made of leather, satin, etc. They never reached the ground. They did not have collars.

Advice and suggestions for a trip to the DR.

Anyone have experience with some of the Hammer Films of the swashbuckler genre? I speak of the films like The Pirates of Blood River, Captain Cleeg/ Night Creatures, The Scarlet Blade, Crossed Swords and the Devil Ship Pirates... Can you give your opinion of any of these films?

I rather wondered if the coat was more a product of the tailor. Each coat, individually made, would vary form person to person and place to place. That said, there would be a similar theme in the coats but each one slightly unique. A rich court coat might not have functional pockets and be lined for comfort. A less expensive coat perhaps having fewer buttons, functional pockets and no lining.

I have some question about the Juste-au-corps. While I know that coats would vary from nation to nation and have slight differences from tailor to tailor what do we know about the construction and name of this garment?

Did they have functional outside pockets?

Did they have functional buttons to allow the coat to be sealed tightly in bad weather?

Were they lined?

Did they have inside pockets or is that a modern conveyance?

We hear names like "Great Coat" and "Frock Coat" but these seem to describe other types of garments. Juste-au-corps, spelled many ways, is French. (?) What would this garment be called in England, among the Dutch, Italians, Spanish, or other nations? Would it always have the title Juste-au-corps.

Historically when did this garment first appear? What did it evolve from? What did it evolve into?

The woman I bought the brass pieces from had a few bottles of chemicals for the purpose but I passed on the solution since it was toxic. I had heard that vinegar cleans brass and copper.... I wonder if I age it and then hit the high points with vinegar to add contrast?

A Roku Box allows you to use your TV to function as your computer without hooking the computer directly to your TV. That way you can watch downloads from the comfort of your living room if your computer is in a different location in your dwelling. That is over simplified but it allows you to avoid running cables or keeping both pieces of hardware in the same spot.

For myself we have our computer in the guest bedroom. It would be nice to watch downloads in the living room without bothering guests and running cables that trip clumsy pirates and large dogs.

I know that uncoated brass will tarnish in time but I purchased a few Steampunk findings and wanted to age them before attaching them to my hat and eye patch. I considered a black ink wash. Other ideas using house hold products?

I've read the Chinese used to pack silk for transport with the leaves from the plant used to make Patchouli oil. I guess the Chinese found Patchouli could be used as a moth repellant.
