  1. Wow, both of those are beautiful pieces. Some time ago, Cascabel warned me about leaving knives, sword and guns in a leather sheath - saying they would rust. I'm not sure of the science behind it, but it definitely happens. Unfortunately he's no longer with us, he would have been a good source of information on how to proceed. WD40 is a good oil for loosening (crud) stuff up for cleaning, but it is light weight, volatile and dissipates pretty quickly. Over the long run, it doesn't doesn't have much staying power to prevent further/future corrosion. Now I'm not a metallurgy person, but I would give a food safe kitchen oil and steel wool a try, I think that would clean it up nicely. I also know blacksmiths sometimes use a thin beeswax on items they've forged - at least on handles.
  2. Ha! I was first introduced to this game, probably more than a decade ago by Mark Rusty Cutlass. I was a bit stand offish at first, but the rules were easy enough to grasp, it really ended up being a hoot and a lot of fun to play. Last year I decided to make a couple mini travel sets, but I'm not sure how well they would actually work/play. I think the dice (and cups) are just too small.
  3. Other than us talking about it here on the Pub, the Alabama/Massacre Island event hasn't been publicized very much. Here's a link to the event planning and discussion threads: https://pyracy.com/forum/288-massacre-island/ The event is September 16th and information about it can be found in the September section of the Event Calendar:
  4. Currently, we are selling the 4"x4" sew on patches on Facebook to help purchase some custom made lanterns for the Alabama event. Other than that, everything else is coming out of William and my pockets. I hope to have our Etsy store up and running by middle of next week. Any funds generated there (and Patreon) will go towards paying the bills, message board software license, site programmer, web and email server space and future merchandise.
  5. We do limit who can post to that section, not because of anyone being new, but it can get out of hand and turn into a ripe mess real quick. In fact, madPete spent several months tidying that section up before we reopened back in February - not to mention all the new events he's since found and added. We should have it posted somewhere, but I'm not sure that anyone actually got around to it, but to add an event to the Calendar, we're asking folks to email their events to, events@pyracy.com
  6. 1.25 inches almost 32 millimeters
  7. I was thinking inches - start out small with something simple, maybe boarders and the like. Mary Diamond insists that's too small and that we need to go bigger. Duchess, what do you think - what size should we start at?
  8. First of all Picaroon Lagoon, welcome aboard! Now don't be beating yourself up for not finding us any sooner. Though we've been around in some capacity since 2003, as site traffic waned we did close her down around 2017. Through heroic effort, William Brand kept her afloat and the lanterns burning over on Facebook. During covid, a lot of us began to miss the community we had here and decided to reopen in time for our 20th year anniversary. So thank you for joining in to help us celebrate. Well of course that all depends on what kind of treasure you be after. If it's within historical context - shipwrecks and the like, your best bet is likely over at "Captain Twill". If you're looking for items and merchandise crafted by your fellow shipmates, I would think "Thieves Market" is the place to go. Plus our "Search" function should be able to help direct you. As for making our merchandise, badges, buttons, patches and shirts available for purchase - well that's my fault, I'm behind in me duties and probably should have set up the Etsy store front before posting 'em to Instagram. No worries, maybe you hit a key while typing that triggered a command thingy (official technical term) or maybe you clicked on something unintentionally, but your guess is as good as mine. Sometimes she seems to have a life of it's own - you're not alone or the only one experiencing this.
  9. Please welcome Picaroon Lagoon to Pyracy.com!
  10. Cheeky Actress, Welcome back to the Pub!
  11. Everybody, please welcome D B Couper back to the Pub!
  12. Good luck on your search. Aside from just looking at sewing remnants, curtains, drapes and linen table cloths are good to check out - just have to be careful about those poly blends. I'm really kicking myself, a short while back I found a huge King size linen duvet cover for $20. I thought to myself, "No, stop. I've got enough fabric at home - more than I'm likely to ever use". After a few minutes of wandering and doing the math, I walked back to the rack, but someone had already grabbed it and was on their way to the counter.
  13. Everybody welcome Schooner Minx to Pyracy Pub!
