got them from an old lady i know here who has no family to give them to so she said she'd rather see them go to someone who'd give them a good home rather than just go to auction when she dies .... i did have my son and i paint her living room and front hall and she gave them to me as a thankyou gift ....some gift!!!!!
-
i realize that they are a bit out of period for the GAOP but i just picked up this pair of waistcoat pistols they are belgian liege percussion cap circa 1795 in pristine condition

bo as for stakes this you should know ....the fort is built on on a coral reef with some sandy soil over it .....metal stakes worked best for us the last time :) :) :) ...i'll be coming down from the alleghenies in NW PA and i'll be bringing at least a dozen or more tin candle lanterns and a few hundred candles -
well lass post a few pictures so we'll know you by sight

i wasn't casting aspersions at anyone by saying that the kids should be catered to !!! but as it is a public event there will be all kinds of people there and we as the participants have to be as cordial as possible to everyone ....and do you need to be something your not ???not at all there are lots of folks out here who don't like kids and plenty who do ...i m'self could do without the mouthy drunk adults ... who think that the event is just a place for getting drunk and being obnoxious by trying to steal your kit or start a brawl ..... so yes there is room for all types at events but there is also a place for manners as well ... let those who handle kids do their thing and those who are better with adults handle them .... but as the pyrates we are we should be going as shipmates and watch out for eachother as well
-
i second that plan lad !!!it is the volunteers who make this event !!!! and as was stated earlier on this topic that if there were some lyrics or music that we could all try to learn ahead of tyme we could sing along much better and get the crowd into it a bit more... i wasn't suggesting an insurection but a coordinated attempt to make the most of a fyne oportunity to get pyrates out there for the public!!!
-
i must agree with you jim ....a positive attitude will win more kids and their parents to pyracy than being dry and grumpy ....and being organized would demonstrate to the fort that we pyrates deserve to continue having our event within their grounds!!! and hawkins i know sometimes i find it hard to remember when i was a nipper m'self so i'm sure you may also .... all of has had our days of waving toy swords 'bout and pretending.....bit without sparking the imagination of a child to continue in our footsteps our passion can die with us

the work looks excellent lad!!! what would be the price range of the other sashes -
i have a couple of those frogs for my theatrical armoury and i use some leather lacing on the staps to cinch the loop to fit the scabbard with that fix the y hold quite well ....that frog will accept many different scabbards and swords .....i agree whole heartedly with bess about the adjustable type frogs!!! but they are usually a bit more money .....starting at about twice the bargain price ...$35-$75 or higher depending on the detail
-
for safety sake i suggest a leather hammerstall and no powder in the pan at al and it is best to unload any weapon when transporting it with a vehichle ..... that's why you should have a ball extractor in your kit so you can do that safely ....i also carry my powder in a seperate chest

ok ladies (and for the gents out there) steel boning is the way to go and when you get the bodice fitted it is best done over a period corset and if fitted properly there is a final step in the corst fitting process refered to as fluffing .....inserting a hand(this takes a friend or lover) outside the breast and lifting and bring to the center making sure the corset or bodice stays tight around the ribs ....and i'm not refering to a cheap fondle fellows .....the victorian style corst/bodices so often worn to ren-faires will give a more seperate look to the breasts but a period corset/bodice will give a more coneshape to the torso and most women wearing the under-breast versions look UDDERly discusting....... did i hear a load mooing sound???? but that is just one of my pet peeves toward authenticity
-
william that sounds like a damned good idea .....i make gifts for most of the other events that i do and gift them to friends ....i'll make sure i do that for pip too

cap'n straw i have replaced several of those sear springs on the sea service/elliot light dragoons and it is fairly easy to do and the cleaning of the older locks isn't hard but it can be time consuming especially if you end up needing to adjust the timing good lock and track of the wolf has a couple of good books to show you some secrats of timing your locks
