  1. Okay, heres a new one I've not heard before... Coin Clipping... Any info, on this one mates...
  2. Capt. MacNamara... You truly are a poet . For a better phrase is not to be found in answer to this post. Bravo Bravo....
  3. I have a couple of pair of shoes I use for re-enactments.. Though neither of them are true to period. They are both boots. One pair is a good leather with a continuous cross lace that goes to the top of the boot. The other is a pair of very good leather boots that are a bit closer to period footwear. They are twist lace with leather over twelve buttons on the side. This also makes them a side split boot. As many have said, footwear is usually the one part of a costume that most people get last, due to cost and supply. Good quality period footwear can cost an extreme amount of money and a lot of folks find it easier to fudge the shoes and consentrate on the rest of thier outfit. Personally, I think thats a cool way to do things. Work with what you've got and have fun. Let me know how the Jarnigans work out. I would love to see a pair of them when you get them...
  4. Actually blackjohn..it looks as if you've covered them all. I read that very little is factually known about his early life and that includes his actuall name. There is a great deal of thoughts, ideas and supposition, but, little known true facts
  5. I've heard about the different artifacts found on the site. I didn't know that they found the ships bell. Did the bell prove the identity of the ship. Have they found anything to prove that it is in fact Queen Annes Revenge..... Also, is there a site that has a running update on the site.
  6. Just to let you all know.. I'm about a third of the way into the book.. The Pirate Hunter.. Capt. Kidd.... it's really good so far. It's a n enjoyable read with a good bit of background and captivating stories....
  7. I've read what some of you have said and I would like to respond. I can appreciate what Hawkyns has said as I and my fair Katey ahve done the same before. Be a part of history so to speak. We have spent time in the camp with no electric, no running water etc. It's actually a nice, peaceful way to spend some time together. A few of you mentioned "survivalist". I cannot say as we ever saw it that way. It wasn't a matter of that with us. It was just a fun way to spend a weekend or so. I cannot say as we ever saw modern folk as being hostiles, but, thats just us. We stopped doing this for a long time now as we have small children. Regardless of whatever folks think, we simply will not put our little ones through anything without some modern convienences around for them and us. Just a thought .......... The Capt.
  8. Since my name has come up on this topic, allow me to express me own actual thoughts. I said that there were to many children posting on this site without any real input. I also said there were to many adults acting like children and posting a lot of chit chat without any real input. I have no problem with anyone of any age posting on this site, as long as you have something to offer. For those who come here and want to swagger and swear as loud as they can, ( I've seen the young and the old do this ) leave. This is not a site where anyone cares if you can cuss a lot. A great many folks , both young and old, post like crazy and say absolutely nothing.. lol.. yeah... okay... are, in my opinion, not post. Thats why we have a chat area. I am not yelling . I'm just giving my opinion. I enjoy the postings from everyone here and I love it when we can get a chance for some of us to meet and share ideas and have fun. I have nothing but respect for everyone on this board and enjoy seeing all of you here. I guess in a way, Gary said it best, when he said it was the drivel tht he minded. I agree. I think that if your a youngin or of an adult age, be welcome here. But, please have a reason to be here. I am glad to know all of you and am happy to share thoughts opinions and ideas, along with a lot of history with all of you. Silver..... I honestly do not remember any of your specific postings.. with that in mind.... welcome Anyhow... just this old sea Capt. thoughts... cheers everyone
  9. MWC....bringing our own food is easy, if everyone wants to do it that way. Right now I am trying to get as much input in this as possible from everyone interested. Thanks for the offer to help. I will most definetly take you up on that when the time comes. Stynky.. you old sea dog... there isn't an event we have out here that your not welcome to. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to come to this event. As for you Stynky Tudor, well, it wouldn't be half as much fun without you and Molly there. I'll have more later for everyone. Right now, the way I'm looking at it is this Several of us make the food. Everyone attending, bring your own liquid Once I find a proper place, I'll be sure to let everyone in on what the cost may be. The way I'm working this, the site fee should be the only cost . I've done these things a great many time friends, just give me a little time and I'll work it out....... Flint
  10. Just picked up... The Pirate Hunter... the true story of Capt. Kidd.... by Richard Zacks... I hope it isn't a yawn, but, we'll see. I also picked up the latest edition of Renaissance magazine. This issue is one of the better ones I've seen in a while. Lots of info. on chainmail and armor care.
  11. Paisly love.... we would love for you to be there. Only problem is, we are hard pressed for any real travel. We are looking for a location closer to home. Right now..... as per suggestion... I am looking into a place near Fells Point. But, if you find yourself able to make it, we would love to see you there. On that note, I need a better idea of who thinks they would like to be there. I'm working on a Saturday in late January or early Feb. I'm am looking into a couple of places in Fells Point and another few down near the Harbor and Canton.. Unless someone has a home they think would accomidate everyone who wants to attent. As info. comes in, I'll be sure to share it with everyone........... Flint
  12. I'm all ears Crimson Corsair. We love Fells Point. Was our stomping ground for a looooonnnnnngggg time. However, you'll have to clue me in on wear we could hold this event. Let me know, as I would like to see about getting it reserved a.s.a.p. In the mean time, I'll make some calls and see what I can locate. I think Fells Point would be the perfect location.
  13. Okay shipmates... heres the idea... We have some music, some fine food, excellent story telling and the best of company seeing as we will all be there. We need to decide.... When ( I suggest after the new year ) Where.. ( like I said, unfortunately our home simply isn't big enough ) and Who wants to participate Unless someone has a place we can all use, I need HELP in finding a location that will work for us. Also.. do we want to do this as a pot luck ,bring a dish thing. Or, do we want to all chip in and have one or two ( or 3 ) people do alll the cooking. Number of people will affect the cost as well as location. I have been part of these events many time over and they are great fun. So, let me know some possible suggestions and if anyone knows a place to hold this. Remember, that now is a good time to start working on a new outfit, if you want one that is, to show off for this event... just as a thought.... I find that if most folks brings a dish it works out better in the long run. Plus if we start now, we can develop a menu that will work for everyones tatse and diet. It will also help with the cost.. This way, we have plenty of food for everyone and the only thing everyone there needs worry about, is bring what you like to drink. This will also help with anyone who travels. They will not have to worry about actually making a dish, just thier own liquid fortification.. Lets have your ideas and input.....
  14. Can someone tell me what a pipe of wine is. I have read in many books about how when a merchant was taken, amongst the items looted were ......"so many pipes of wine and hogsgead of tobaccoe. If anyone else has some terms they are unfamiliar with, post them here mabye we could all learn a word or two.....
  15. I'll post more about this when I have more time. I just wanted to get everyone to start thinking about it now. Katey and I were thinking of having a pirate feast . We figure that after the new year would be the best time. Holidays over and everyone will have thier vacation time back. Anyhow.... there is a lot to discuss about this. For right now I would like to know who would be interested and to have everyone give some input on a possible location. Our home , although we would love to do it here, isn't big enough for this. So let the Capt. know if you want to do this. You have plenty of time to start working on new outfits. I'll give more info later when I have time. Good night all............ The Capt.
  16. Hello all. It's my first chance to post since fair. I just wanted to say how fantastic it was to meet all of you. Cannot wait until next time. Madam Macaw.... as we live so near each other, we would love to get together more often. I'll try to get in touch with you to a more specific time. It was a pleasure to see old friends and new faces. Hawkyns, it was a long ride for you and it was great to see you. Stynky Tudor.... you old sea dog...... no ship would ever be complete without you and your crew to round it out. Thanks for making the trip my friend. We look forward to when we can all get together agin. I have the pics of the whole group. I'm just waiting to get them developed. After that, I'll be happy to make copies for all who want them.... Flint
  17. Stynky... of course theres a bathroom... I know i saw a tree here somewhere.... now let me see..........
  18. I've only gotten a few responses as to who is planning on coming over after fair. If anyone else is planning on coming, then come on. Katey and I have gotten some food and we will be glad to see all of you. We will make sure to have the directions with us at fair for everyone.... see you then.....
  19. Aye Stynky. The list keeps growing and growing. This should be quite a turnout.
  20. Capt. Marlow... Two options... I would be happy to make you one for cost. Probally about 20 to 25 dollars plus shipping. However, that would be a bit of a thin belt. The local ren fair here has much wider belts; almost 3" wide with buckle for somewhere between 25 to 35 dollars, in brown and black. I would be happy to pick you one up, just have to find out the shipping. When do you want it. We are going to the fare again on oct. Would be happy to get it for you then.... Flint
  21. I can just see some old pirate saying this as he reads his wanted poster....... " Scoundrel, I like the sound of that " From Star Wars 2. Han Solo ... sort of a pirate himself eh?
  22. Mad Woman Cheryl.. you can meet us at the tavern when we go to me Gute at 1:00. or call us on our cell phone when you get there.... or just roam around until we bump into you, ( that can be fun)... either way we will see you then......
  23. Thanks for the info. Crimson Corsair..... We'll have the vcr set up. Until then, is there any more info. Such as .. do they have an idea of what ship it is, how big etc?.... thanks again................
  24. from Nightmare before Christmas..... JAAAACK, PLEASE; I'm only an elected official. I can't make decisions by myself.........
  25. Disney.... sweet disney.. always thinking of the people and never their pockets... oh wait... I forgot.. we are speaking of the world dominant Walt Disney org. in that case.. never mind
