Starbucks.... circa 1688! Interesting for a lot of things.... Check out the coffee making stuff in the fireplace. Aslo, look how, at this early date, the stockings are pulled over the bottom of the breeches and held in place with ribbon. And they are clocked... You get a good idea of the front, side, and back of the wigs... Also, look how low the crown of the hats are. gof

Well... I certainly can't guarantee fit and comfort for any shoe. I am not sure even Nike does that.... I will check in with him, but his posted internet policy on customer satisfaction is if they don't fit, he will send you another pair to try, if that doesn't work either, you get your money back and part ways. Seems fair enough to me. I will check though..... I am expecting the sample any day now and will flood the net with pictures when it comes. GoF

Someone was asking about a correct pattern, so I thought that I would add a little more to this post for those that are looking for a great GAoP pattern. I just bought some incredible fabric (about 5 meters of Blue silk Grosgrain) at TORM for about $35. The last time I could find silk grosgrain, it was about $50 per yard, so I could not help myself. Anyway, I was going to make it into a 1700s justaucorp... but I decided to order the earlier justaucorp pattern an make one of those. When I get that pattern, I will do another review. GoF

This really is a fun event... I call Tidewater my home and was there for the 2000 event (along with Opsail 2000). If you are planning to go, please remember that there is a lot to do in the whole area.... not just the Blackbeard festival. Colonial Williamsburg and Jamestown and Virginia Beach are well within an hours drive and Norfolk, Portmouth, and the Fantastic Mariner's Museum in Newport News are all only about half and hour. Thoug early June, It can be bloody hot that time of year so plan accordingly. Also, the very next weekend is Norfolks "Harborfest" which usally has tall ships, music, and great food.... GoF

I heard from the maker and the sample is on its way. By far the most questions I have received are about fitting and sizes. So I passed the question along, and the shoe maker says that you should be able to "order" your regular shoe size and it not be a problem. That being said, he told me that he has a chart (which I will post) that has 4 measurments that he can use to give you the best fit. He said that a tracing is useless..... Anyway. I hope to have pictures of the shoes soon, and will post what I get. GoF

Declare sumthin' about yerself that no one knows
Gentleman of Fortune replied to CaptainCiaran's topic in Beyond Pyracy
Call him what you wish... I'd use "lucky"... But FWIW... Since "boyfriend" and "girlfriend" are almost universally accepted as "the significant other that I am dating", to hear someone say "guyfriend" makes it sounds like "I don't like him enough to keep him, but he'll do till something better comes along"..... But, he is yours, so call him what you like! Do you like being called "female friend", gal-pal", "chic-mate" "gal friend" instead of girlfriend???? Just curious GoF -

Pirates and the National Body Challenge 06

After my last post I went for a run.... a wouldn't you know it, I got a cramp in my calf! Of course, it happened right when I was about to turn around and run back home so I had to walk 1 mile back with the cramp.... I can't tell you how many times i have started an excercise program and then after a few weeks I: Sprain ankle Knee injury acts up again Get a serious cold etc... Ugghhh.... I hope that it was just a cramp, as I started to really look forward to the run (which is outstanding as I loathed it for the first 2 weeks!). But on the bright side, I weighed in at 259.5 which is great as I started out at 273. I am tall enough to hide most of my weight but would love to get down to the 230 range. In the spirit of the game... here is a picture of me in January... 273 lbs -

Can you imagine the interest if you have someone hanging up in a gibbet? Pretty cool... and giant brass ball to the volunteer! GoF -
Still haven't recieved the sample yet... but it could be in the mail. I am going to check with the maker today and should have some more info. Right now here are some that expressed interest in the shoes.... some stronger than others but here is a list of folks from this board and others. If you name is not on here and needs to be, chime in. If its on here and you have changed your mind... let me know that too William Red Wake Mick MacAnselan Deadeye Captain Sawney Beane Hurricane Captain Morgan Blacfoot Monterey Jack Billy BOnes Tarfoot Owne Roberts Major Chaos *BLack John *Duncan McGuyver *Pat Hand *Callenish Gunner *Black Dog *Cut Throat *Mad Matt Well that is 19 total, but I will have to add that re-enactors are famous for changing their minds, especially if money is tight. There is no gun to anyones head though. Those with asterisks are ones that expressed interest.... depending on what the final shoe looks like or other reasons. I am probably going to get 2 pairs myself so if everyone on the list comes through.... thats 21. Some other things to consider are that: 1) The project doesn't really start until we get the 30 orders. So if you are involved in a pirate re-enacting club or group, spread the word and share the love as every order helps. 2) This price ($135) is the manufacturers cost to us. There is no mark up or nothing. Considering that this will be the only shoe on the market that is patterned after a 1690-1720 shoe (and an actual pirate shoe to boot!) this is an incredible deal. The next closest thing will be a the early shoe from Jarnigan and will still need to be modified for GAoP use and cost $160+ (and takes 6-8 weeks at least). No one else will have the rights for these shoes after our purchase, so other vendors won't be able to buy them and offer them for sale. 3) After the initial order/run, the price might go up and he will only make them in batches of 6 at a time. Again, spread the word about the shoe buy and have anyone e-mail me if they have specific questions. gof*at*gentlemenoffortune.com and remember to replace *at* with @ or you can go to my website and click the comment link. Pirates and the National Body Challenge 06
Gentleman of Fortune replied to Paisley's topic in Beyond Pyracy
I am assuming that since; the last post to this thread was February 3rd, some of the "before" pictures have been deleted, and its now March 28th, that, well.... maybe some folks have fallen off the wagon? I "joined" the Discovery thing about 10 days after it had started, and had problems navigating and finding the pirate group... yaddah yaddah.... so I said screw it and just did it on my own. I found the Men's Health site pretty useful, and have used some of their recipes. http://tinyurl.com/l35g7 I have all but cut out fast food and cokes and am trying to get a mile run/half mile walk in every other night. So far so good. I have lost 9 pounds. So.... who is still working at it and wants to give/get encouragement? GoF -
