  1. I could make it like a rope-stroped block... the way it's supposed to be anyway. I have some 3/4" cotton hawser line. How big are ye thinkin'? Diameter-wise
  2. I actually might not need the wood shop to do that, let me do some research and see what I can come up with. Just a single deadeye, or the two piece set with rope? PM me with details
  3. Glad I could oblige... My use of the wood shop is limited these days since the shop owner changed hands
  4. Aye... I already have another coat planned, and I am making the sleeves a touch longer, with slightly bigger cuffs in addition to the change I already made to the design. I am also going to lengthen the kickplate by about 2 inches so it's even with the rest of the coat, and add another section to the front so it comes straight down as it's worn, instead of sweeping back toward the bottom like this one does. For my first coat, however, I am more than satisfied with it, especially since it only cost me about $60-$75 to have made. My next one will be in a maroon color, and then I am having a third one made next spring out of forest green.
  5. Here's the finished coat, with buttons on the pocket flaps and cuffs. Black cloak frogs were used for the closures on the front.
  6. @ the careful positioning of the pin! Jas Townsend do a product search for JR 1770's Gentlemen's Coat Pattern that's the one, aye... Nice coat, by the way (Crimson) And to post images, use the IMG button up top. If you can't find it, use [*IMG]your pic url here[*/IMG] without the *'s
  7. Here's a link to the pattern for mine: http://jas-townsend.com/product_info.php?p...products_id=419 It makes a nice coat, though I might change the pattern slightly again on the next one I have made. I already changed the cuff design. The best part is the pockets... they're big and functional, so I can carry stuff in them instead of my belt looking like a storage locker, lol. I used modern materials... a nice upholstry fabric from Hancocks, was on sale for around $12 a yard... my provisions officer used 4 1/2 yards for the coat, and then another 4 1/2 for the lining, which was just a satin lining-type material, also from Hancocks. Upholstry fabric may not be period, or of period blend materials, but it makes for some pretty garb, sez I I overkilled the thread on my buttons... I don't like losing buttons. I just finished sewing the buttons on, and I'll post new pics once I get the frogs sewn on. Also, I saw someone once wearing a belt around the outside of the a coat similar to this one. Is that appropriate? It kinda looked nifty either way.
  8. Thanky! I got frogs for it today, instead of buttons... The place here where I get buttons only had 12, and I need those for the pocket flaps and cuffs... Plus I need it finished by next friday.
  9. Me provisions officer finally finished me coat! (sort of, it still needs buttons) Me in the coat Coat laid out Detail of pocket and cuff This is from the Jas Townsend 1770's pattern: http://jas-townsend.com/product_info.php?p...products_id=419 I changed the design of the cuff, I didn't like the way the cuff it calls for looked. Other than that, it's made to specs. I am probably going to use black frogs instead of buttons for the closures, they will look nice with the black trim. But for the cuffs and pockets, I am going to try for either period-style buttons, or some other buttons that just look nice.
  10. "Ham and Jam and Spamalot!" (line from Monty Python and the Holy Grail)
  11. yeah... last thing I need is a lawsuit from disney... But I won't be selling any of my work... it's all free.
  12. Hopefully it doesn't cause much damage to the coast this time... but even moreso, hopefully it dies before it reaches Oklahoma! Judging by the current forecasted path, *if* it hits Oklahoma with much force, the eye will end up passing over my town by sunday/monday.
  13. the credits was more of a joke than anything, lol...
  14. I was playing around with my new DV camera, and learning how to edit DV... So for fun, I put together a little video/slideshow complete with soundtrack just for giggles. I can't get streaming video to work, however, so if you want to see the video, you'll have to right click the link(s) and hit "save target as" and save it to your computer to watch. If ye watchs it, lemme know what you think. I am planning a couple of short pirate and/or SCA-related films (Including at least one music video-type film for a bardic piece), and a Cannon-Firing Demo video, so this was just basically a test for future work. The Videos are in .WMV format. Iron Lotus Video (Big) Iron Lotus Video (Small)
  15. I've posted this before in this forum, but here goes... I have alot of scar tissue... only some of it is external, like the: 4" one on me left wrist from a bone-carving accident. one from when my left thumb was 75% severed. both knees and right elbow, all fractured in a motorcycle accident. right ribcage, where they had to put a tube in my lung. left temple where I fractured my skull in the car wreck... speaking of that, bring us to the internal scar tissue... scar tissue in the esophogus where it was ripped completely out scar tissue on my heart, where it was nicked by one of my ribs scar tissue in both lungs, where they were punctured by my ribs scar tissue in my sternum, where is was broken in half scar tissue in my right shoulder, where my collarbone was broken in 3 places and ripped up the muscle tissue as well scar tissue and adhesions in the chest cavity from all the ribs snapping free of the sternum scar tissue in my liver, kidneys and spleen, where they were perforated from a very hard impact with the ground All the internal injuries happened in one car wreck in 1998... was driving angry and too fast in the rain, and ended up flipping a 4 door car end over end 5 times... fractured my skull on the driver's side window, busting it out when the car hit the ditch before it flipped... knocked me unconscious is the only reason I survived at all. elbow hit the seat belt release and I flew out the back glass, and the car hit me as it flipped, catapulting me 120 feet in the air... then I belly-flopped on the ground and the car landed on me on it's last flip, and came to a rest on it's side right by me. My lungs and stomache filled with blood, and my heart and respirations stopped. Then I was revived, and the first hospital was going to send me home to die in a familiar enviornment. My family insisted on taking me to a different hospital, where I spent 4 days and then walked out of the hospital under my own power. I have bad headaches alot now... among other problems.
