  1. Thank you for the gracious offer Callenish! pretty sure I will be in a hotel.

At this point I'm planning a similar trip as last year... fly in weds or thurs, fly out Mon (into Key West this time, the drive from Miami/Ft lauderdale was nice, but forced me to miss Sunday night activities).

We even considered the whole week and bringing the family, but that is not looking likely.

  2. It looks like madPete will be staying in town this year rather than camping and may have company, though that is still tentative.

I do prefer to remain listed with the Mercury crew for this event, can't wait to see you blokes and lasses!

  3. Great idea Mission. Thank you.

William and I started a thread last year over in the Mercury Crew Section titled "How to get started for PIP". There are a lot of topics in that thread I believe qualify as timeless that might help here. Picture threads are another good one.

    That's the link!

As a PIP rookie last year, I can say read these threads it covers 95% of what ya need ta know. No one expects yer ta be spot on first time out, but make yer best efforts and ya will be rewarded with the moniker "FB" (it's a good thing!)

Can't say this too often - listen to William RedWake.... take care of yer feet and make sure your shoes are broken in and comfortable and Walk everyday the couple weeks before the event. You'll be glad you did.

Ask questions, folks here are great and glad to answer your questions.,

    P.S.

WELCOME BACK MISSION! WE MISSED YOU (Ya just can't keep good surgeons - especially when they were pressed)

  4. Here are some pic of a hammock I made from the pattern mentioned. Nice features are that is adjustable in length, and the rope work is not too hard. You do want a sewing palm for the stitches. I learned that 36" is a bit narrow, so I widened it to 48", also I lengthened it to 90" rough to come out 72" between the seams. (I'm 5'9" and wanted to fit) It is amazingly comfortable, and not difficult to put together, just time consuming, the hitched eyes take forever and you have 24 to do. You can also roll it and tie off to store all your clothes, so it doubles as a seabag, pretty handy all around. Hope this helps.

Top notch! Very nice work mate.

I was looking ta craft somethin like this prior to PIP 2009. With flyin in and all, I punted on a lot of stuff and bartered fer a lightweight nylon hammock ta get by.

twas the first time I ever closed mine eyes on a hammock - sure beats a cot. been meanin' to get back to this work tho, and you just might have provided the inspiration with those pics...

    Thank ye Sir!

  5. There once was a surgeon called Mission

Against all advice he went fish'n

He went on to the keys

    away from the freeze

and was pressed just like he was wish'n

Beware of the bloke who may sink ye

in the pub he is quick with a winky

    he'll take yer hat

    and then chew the fat

by now you should know this is Stynky

Powder yer face?!? Rascals! me thinks the wig be need'n the powder

  7. Shrek... "Do you think he's maybe compensating for something?"

Seriously, that is one monstrous flag - Fantastic job!

Hope to see it flying at PIP this year as well ... (er, the flag that is)

  8. What a bunch of ol' sour grapes from the fellows just hitting their strides ...if anyone should kvetch about a snot-nosed pup it should be the likes of me, but I have to say I admire the lad's dedication and efforts to the hobby ...and very few of us could handle the rum right out of the shute Most of us made our offerings to the porcelin god and learned what we can/could handle

    spoilsport!

if'n ya cain't have a little fun with the lad what's the point?

    old man!;)

  9. Nice job Michael!

I was thinking about making a map/document case along those lines.

I still have a few solid brass buckles left (1" & 3/4") that I used to put on Artillery Powder bags if ya need some

and recently Tandy has added some solid brass buckles to their line.

  10. I used the Birchwood Casey Plum brown on my Traditions Kentucky rifle kit.

The Browning looks great. Maintenance wise it has been easier to maintain than the shiney finish on my former '61 Springfield.

It is more work to apply than some finishes, with heating and such. I'd have to read the directions again, but I remember it was a bit more labor intensive to apply.
